In fact, there was no way that I could resist that delicious Nightwish treat:

I know, these are intermediate songs, but I play my favorit NW songs everyday anyway (even if I have to improvise sometimes, like in the rythm part...but that actually is the fun part  😆)

The lead part of this song was quite difficult (those pesky chords):

Rythm also had some difficult chords, but not as much:

Bass part was fun😄

I started with Bass this week since The Trees is the first song that I really spent actual time learning when I decided I wanted to be decent on the bass. That and the fact that despite the recognition that Geddy Lee gets, Alex Lifeson is just as good at guitar as Lee is at bass and I catch onto bass techniques much faster than guitar ones (20 years of playing guitar and 1 year of playing bass and I feel way more confident with bass than guitar).

I'm gonna give these more practice, since I've been mostly focused on guitar lately the fret length differences threw me off a bit, especially with Poison Apple since I've never heard it before. Probably will also have to do Score Attack just to see more specifically what I'm hitting, I just find all the sound effects throw me off but I just now realized with the mixer I can probably just turn those all off.

The Trees

Poison Apple (2-3 more playthroughs I should be able to get this up)
pCn0ijrh.png

The Carpenter (I don't see any reason I can't 100% this. That's another reason I like bass in RS, my bass doesn't pick up any interference and generally my note detection is spot on. I literally don't know if I can reach 100% on guitar unless it's a short song that's all single notes).

EDIT: I think the difficulty scores for bass are pretty accurate, although I would put Poison Apple a half point down and The Trees a half point up but I don't really have an issue where they are.

I've been thinking of getting one of these DIY kits.  I'd be interested in your thoughts on yours.  What kit did you get?

I got the Harley Benton Bass Guitar Kit J-Style.

What I dont like about most of these DIY Kits is that the head part is not shaped. Thats why I hesitadet at first to buy one.

I have no woodworking sklills but am experienced in metal- and pvc-working. So some handcrafting skills are usefull.

I managed to shape the head as I desired:

Hi everybody,

I'm new here. I tried the songs once, and here are my scores:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2600673070

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2600673119

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2600673180

I skipped the easiest one because I don't like changing tunings. I think I can get the Rush song in the 90% range by saturday, it's just the fingerpicked arpeggios are not my thing and I'm gonna have to practice them. Which class do you think I should be in? I tried last weeks masterclass (Fade to black) and I'm on 98.9% mastery with master mode on, with 9 tries.

I will be posting scores for rhythm and bass later in the week.

i would say Masterclass. but this week the advanced is really on the easy side of advanced and MC is on the really hard side so idk. but if you sight read 98% advanced i would say MC for sure yeah.

oh and welcome!

Hi, as Anitomer wrote this week there is a big difference in song difficulty between advanced and masterclass (6 vs 9) so it's hard to compare. If you can achieve 90% accuracy in The Trees, I think you deserve a masterclass 🙂

And 98.9% mastery in Fade to Black is a really great result, but in the championship % accuracy (in Learn a Song or Score Attack) is what determines the classification.

Lead scores:

Chords can be problematic at first, but it's a matter of practice.

20210831205237-1.jpg

Early Nightwish, I like these sounds!

20210401212149-1.jpg

I was wondering if this might not be more intermediate, but the solo raise the level a bit, so 5,5-6 and easy advanced. Nice to play song.

20210907205505-1.jpg

Arpeggios and fast chords changes. Truly masterclass song, despite the short and not too difficult solo.

Thanks for the replies, I guess it would be best to wait till the end of the week with choosing a class. Anyway, I played some more today. Did some redos this time, so I can focus on Trees in the lead path. This will probably be my final score on these arrangements:

Rhythm:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2601318848

Lot's of fun with this song, will def check out the band.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2601505609

This one was definitely harder than the lead path, i did some riff repeater time on the acoustic parts. Also, I don't think it's 100% accurate in those spots, but it could be just overdubs in the recording, so idk .

Bass:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2601504746

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2601504524

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2601504271

Haven't played bass in a while, my right hand fingers are hurting. Still, it was fun. I don't know why, but Geddys lines have a way of just getting under my fingers - in stark contrast to Alexs. Geddys playing feels like home, while Alex does always seem alien. Is it just me, or does someone get what i'm trying to say?

Also, I think that rocksmith should be more strict with rhythm, especially in the bass path. I definitely was off in a couple of places, but still it was counted as a good note.

GOG:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2601185899

It was really fun to play. Sadly spaghetti strings and fretbuzz hindered my score. I'll get some heavier strings and setup one of my guitars for lower tunings, but I doubt it'll happen this week, so this is my final score I guess.

So I think this week's intermediate lead is harder than the advanced. I only played the intermediate one twice (once LAS, once SA) and played the advanced a couple more times than that, but it seems like the intermediate really did not want to register a lot of those power chords for me. Also, the arrpegio (I think that's what it is) was quite tricky and the little solo was rough. Anyway, have a good week everybody.

Nice and easy one this week. Fun rhythm song.

For reasons unknown lead and rhythm 2-2.5 for both

Only a couple weeks ago I was thinking of moving to intermediate.

Now struggling to get in the 90's.

Spent years with a metronome honing my timing to a point where I have it internalized

Then Rocksmith slaps me in the face and says nope your timing sucks   😭😭
