  1. Congrats on the "real guitarist" goal!! It may be worth sourcing a good instructor.. i.e. someone who can do all the things you aspire to do - They may be able to help carve out the path for you.... Other than that, you sound like you've done enough research to know what you need to learn, you could probably make up your own practice routine which includes it all; Fretboard knowledge - know every fret on every string by name, Chord shape drills - go through scale tone chords in every key, or play the same chord in every position up the neck Scale drills - pick a scale and a string at random, then start from there - Once you have mastered the vertical six string shape of all positions, start with one or two strings and play the scales horizontally - create melody lines - build muscle memory of how the shapes connect to one another.. Keys - find some common chord progressions, I-IV-V, III-Vi-II-V-I, II-V, etc.. and play them in a variety of keys and shapes Improv. - record the above progression practice and play different scales over them, try a scale of the key, a scale of the chord you're playing over, develop your ear to what you like the sound of... For me, playing guitar is part science and part art, it's up to you to define how much of each part signifies your playing (style). You've probably seen or heard of everything I've mentioned above, it just sounds like you're looking for more structure behind your learning. My 2c - write everything you want to learn down on paper, then draw up your own schedule dividing your time between them. Test that for a month then re-access and modify as required. Best wishes

  2. Might be of use to someone - E standard tuning fretboard notes.. Most of the charts I've found on the internet are a bit fuzzy, so I did my own. It's high res, so good for a printout, desktop wallpaper etc.. Cheers, H edit.. v2 Corrected colour on 2 notes.

  5. Do you play the $10 Walmart special or an original played by Paul Mccartney?? We want to see em and hear the stories behind them! This was my first guitar that I bought at a second hand store. It's very light and I like the way it feels. I use it mainly for Drop D and lower tunings. It's an Epihphone Special SG. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g34/jshaw0705/IMG_0563_zps70c572b9.jpg I am 35 years old. As such when I was in high school every guitar player and lead singer that you dreamed of being played one of these. I had to have one! I understand that over the years they are pretty much all the same but that wasn't going to do it for me. I had to have an era correct one. I hunted and hunted and finally came across this heavily used, but plays perfect '99 MIM Fender Stratocaster. Found it on Craigslist and had the guy email me the serial number. As soon as I had it confirmed by Fender for year and such, I headed out to get it. 2 hours. I am thrilled to own it though! Totally worth the drive. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g34/jshaw0705/IMG_0564_zps01d5e2ea.jpg

  7. http://guitargames.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/ddc-512.png {Original icon from Svengraph} Dynamic Difficulty Creator I am pleased to share with you the "Dynamic Difficulty Creator" which : - uses the XML files of each arrangement to produce a new version of these files (files like "PART REAL_GUITAR.xml") - generates all phrases automatically (if not already created in EOF) - generates all levels of dynamic difficulties from 0 to 19 if needed for each phrase DDC v3.7 supports various time signatures : - if a time signature is missing, you can now configure its categorization maps - the synchronization process in EOF must respect the rhythm (the measures, beats and time signatures have to be correctly defined in EOF) For best results : - during the synchronization process in EOF, do not move the notes, just move the main measures (vertical bars) - create sections and phrases in EOF carefully because they strongly influence DDC process - All sections and phrases must start on the main beat of a measure If these rules are bypassed, DDC can work, but the results are not garenteed ... I'm writting a dedicated tutorial about DDC : DDC Tutorial ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- D O W N L O A D L I N K ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Production (stable) : ddc_v3.7.zip (Requires RSToolkit v2.8.1.0-980b5022 beta or greater) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- U P D A T E S ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update v3.7 : (14/07/2020) - New specific part in the log file to display the handShapes properties - Fixed bug : HandShapes are not always generated when they contain both single notes and chords Update v3.6 : (02/12/2018) - The "offset" property is now setted if the first beat starts after 0.000 - New "maxMeasuresPerPhrase" parameter to disable the automatic phrase creation process based on the average number of measures per input phrase - Fixed bug : A new beat was always added at time 0.000 - Fixed bug : A COUNT phrase iteration was always added at time 0.000 - Fixed bug : The time position of the last noguitar section was always adjusted - Fixed bug : The maximum number of generated DD levels wasn't limited to 30 Update v3.5 : (27/07/2018) - Fixed bug : When generating the transcriptionTrack tag, a chord must be ignored if it is replaced by single notes at upper levels - Fixed bug : Notes are not always generated for odd measures when "ddc_dd_remover.xml" template is used - Fixed bug : The computation of number of differences is wrong for the first level of difficulty Update v3.4 : (20/09/2017) - More levels added in the default configuration file - In order to add more levels of difficulty, each level is splitted in two sublevels, the first one keep only new notes added in odd measures. - Fixed bug : The last notes may be omitted when the last "noguitar" section has an adjusted time position. - Fixed bug : Error in calculating the total number of events in each phrase that affected the process of merging adjacent difficulty levels. - Fixed bug : Transcription track could produce several single notes at the same time position and on the same fret - Fixed bug : Embedded handShapes may produce issue when generating the transcriptionTrack tag - Fixed bug : Spaces in chord name and display name were not managed correctly - Fixed bug : Count attributes may have wrong values in transcriptionTrack children tags Update v3.3 : (07/04/2017) - Set the default value when an attribute is missing in the input XML file - Generation of transcriptionTrack tag without attributes that have the default value - Don't generate XML attributes with default value in the DDC output file (RSToolkit v2.8.1.0) - Fixed bug : High density status may be forced even if the chord contains any technics - Fixed bug : A value of 100 for the "minHighDensityMisused" configuration parameter doesn't deactivate the density correction process Update v3.2 (28/11/2016) - New process to force the density status of chords depending on their position in a sequence - New parameter in the configuration file to adjust or not the density status of chords - New process to add open notes in chord tags in order to remove display glitches - New message in the log if the time position of an anchor is adjusted - No more protection of adjacent measures that share the same handShape during the phrase creation process - No more generation of linkedDiffs node (only newLinkedDiffs is usefull) - Fixed bug : Wrong time position used when generating a new anchor at the beginning of a phrase - Fixed bug : HandShapes and anchors may be splitted at the beginning of a new phrase - Fixed bug : Linked notes may never appear in any difficulty level Update v3.1 (02/10/2016) - The order of XML attributes has changed for note, chordNote and handShape tags - The feature that automatically adjusts the sustain of notes has been removed - Fixed bug : DDC may crash during the check of overlapping sustains Update v3.0 (01/02/2016) - The chords without chord notes are now supported - 8. NOTICE: Sorry I haven't updated this in a while but I won't be making or updating my customs for a very long time. Moved to study abroad in Japan for a year a couple months ago and now all I got is my poopy laptop, left my rig and stuff at home. Thanks for playing my customs! Sorry Everyone! --VO.K Hello! Welcome to my Workshop! I decided to make Anime/Anime related CDLC's. Although there aren't many here that are interested in this stuff, it's still nice that the minority gets some nice stuff too! (I'm surprised there was any on here to begin with) If you have a request, I may be able to fulfill it. Please keep in mind that I only work from Guitar Pro Tabs (it's a lot less time consuming). If you've got the tab, great! But if you don't I'll try my best to look for one. If there's none, I apologize. Thanks for Visiting! VO.K *might start working on Custom Tones soon. 10. Guess what guys................i'm back :-P What is the easiest way to create my 100+ customs as pages on here, without manually 'submitting' each custom? Otherwise, I probably won't get time to manually do it which will be a real shame. Any of the devs have any ideas? For now I'm just giving all access to my Mega folder which I'm updating with more and more customs, but ideally would like to sort all my customs into the database so others can easily find what they want. Anyone have any thoughts on what would be the easiest way?

  11. Kasnitch, those are beautiful ESP's. I used to own an early 90's ESP M-2 Custom in Lemon yellow, best guitar I have put my hands on to date; I expect the newer ESP's are only an improvement. bought it used for 300 in '05, traded it for an 87' Ricky 4001. Still a massive regret letting it get away, Rick's come up for sale often but that guitar was something special! that said, Here's what i'm currently playing (Bass porn heavy!): What I do most of my recording on, MIJ Fender Aerodyne Precision Classic, P/J tone, Super thin/light P body, Jazz neck profile, one of my favorite workhorses! http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k435/Altamont613/FenderP_zpsad47e124.jpg http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k435/Altamont613/FenderP2_zps63237640.jpg my Eb bass, Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass: http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k435/Altamont613/Squierjazz_zpsee7b1644.jpg And the two that don't see the outside world very often, I think both were around 400 models made: The Boat Anchor! Gibson Silverburst Explorer Bass: I picked this up because it is identical to Skwisgaar skwigelf's 6-string "Thunderhose" explorer, in bass form. :) http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k435/Altamont613/EXplorer1_zpsff5942a3.jpg http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k435/Altamont613/Explorer2_zpsa613aea3.jpg Hipshotted Gibson SG Supreme Fireburst Bass (07' Guitar of the Week promo): The newest addition, went looking for something that would make it easier to move around, came up with this one. http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k435/Altamont613/SG1_zps5ee3f3aa.jpghttp://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k435/Altamont613/SG2_zps6d06d8f2.jpg I love them all but I've really taken to the short scale SG lately, The finish really comes to life in low light situations and it feels like I work less to do more. :)

  17. Took some pics this morning of my beautiful ladies. They are both 2011 ESP Standard Horizons, and are superb instruments. Axemusic.com here in Canada still has one of each of these in stock as of a couple days ago. The red FR model is about $2199 and the blue NT is about $1800 . Considering the 2014 models are made the same but with different headstocks, but cost $5000, I would think hmmmm.. wtf. These guitars are 95% as good as the PRS Studio I had, which cost $1400 more. The other 5% is made up by their own electronics and pickups, which are the best I've heard. Play feel is as good or better on the ESP guitars. Cheers all. 19. Hello,We are now taking votes on releasing an CDLC approved area. mini-faq: What does this mean? If the votes equal "YES", we would launch a new CDLC area for APPROVED CDLC's only. This means the CDLC will have everything finished, and tested by the community. This would include: Lead, Rhythm, Bass, Vocals, Custom Tones, Synced up, RR And optional DD. (NO issues) (exception is if one of the Arrangement types isn't available for the song)Additionally, you would need the appropriate album artwork, title, and everything else So like SA's old system, right? Similar yes, but better executed. All of the "approved" CDLCs would have to be 100% finished, in the correct format, and at an appropriate host that won't delete the song in a week or month if not downloaded. EDIT: This is NOT going to a separate section! There will be three filters - approved, unapproved, and in progress. The default will be to show all customs, but you can filter if you would like to see only approved customs. It will be integrated within our current search.

  20. All your words are right. It is not bad to play rocksmith all the time. At least it is far better than not playing. But goals are different. I don't want to play couple of songs to impress ppl. I want to become a real guitarist. Someone that knows music theory, technique and the art of performing. By music theory I mean chord progressions, scales, keys, making melodies and how to mix all these. In all the fields above rocksmith has something to say. But the problem I meant is: I feel like it makes me lazy somehow or addicted whatever the word is and then I won't feel the joy outside rocksmith. Only hitting scores and etc. I say again rocksmith is a revolution in learning and it helped me a lot. More than any thing Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 2

  22. If you want to improve, play Buckethead :) :) this way you can learn how to play better as well as enjoy great music :) (not only my opinion, but few friends too) You will find very fast parts as well as slow songs with many bends and other techniques too :) and in the rhythm parts you will learn nice chords too :) For very fast parts I use Riff Repeater and it works very well :) Just 1 year and 6 months ago I did not know how to play guitar and now thanks to Buckethead I learned a lot, I can play most of the songs in RS2014 with 80%-90% accuracy, sometimes close to 100% even :) For bass I get 95%-100% accuracy for most of the songs in RS2014. I even could not dream about it about 2 years ago when I started to think about playing guitar, I still can not believe that after so short time I could improve so much... Still much to learn, I am just starting the way :) Have to learn more chords as this is my main problem to be fast playing strange chords :)

  23. http://imageshack.com/a/img19/5784/juiv.jpg Thanks for the encouragement @ but after another hour I don't improve much! Guess I should quit this competition until I can actually play. I guess I am too much of a beginner to compete with the "beginners" here! Don't let others doing better get you down. I haven't tried it yet this week, but I'm sure I'll be closer to you than to either of the other scores posted. What have you tried so far with this song for practice? There's lots of ways to use RS to learn a song. If the ways you've tried haven't shown progress, maybe try RR on the hardest part of the song for you and slow it down? Once you get the hardest part down, it should help your confidence so you can build up on other parts of the song quicker. Either way, there's no such thing as too new to be here. Just have fun with it. Remember, soon you'll be in the higher classes with new people frustrated that it seems to come so easily to you.

  24. @@Collision - I'm sorry, I regret saying this song is easy now. I'm sorry it got you down. In my view the whole point of this championship is to encourage people, not just through seeing yourself get better, but also seeing those around you get better. I've been watching @@Smile get better over the last few weeks and it has pushed me to work harder too. I was absolutely bottom last week though, some songs work for me some don't, but it shows me where I can improve. I really suck at anything that requires fast pick work like last week, and so I really need to work on the speed. This week it took me 12 goes to get 100% where as @ did it on the first attempt. Keep going, it will be worth it when you can see yourself and others around you improving.

  26. I'm no expert, and I'm sure that opinions will vary, however I think you'll get more 'musical' benefit from learning songs.. The more you're exposed to riffs/rhythms will just build your guitar vocabulary. And if you think of guitar playing like a language, the better your vocabulary, the better you'll be able to express yourself. I don't know where I heard it, but I remember one thing mentioned by an instructor once; He said, never practice scales/techniques outside of a musical context. His argument was, scales aren't MUSIC - No one is going to pay $50 to come and watch you play scales, let alone enjoy it! So practice them within some form of musical context; backing track, Session mode etc... Give them musical meaning. Apply the scale with musicality, as opposed to playing a scale with a metronome. My recent personal experience - I've had RS2014 for 4 weeks, and in that time I haven't touched my amp/effects  Last night I had a jam with friends and quickly had to adjust to play with a much lighter touch than I was used to in RS... I think the big produced sound of RS (although cool) can hide some articulation flaws in technique that you aren't going to hear till you get back on your amp. There are some guides around of how to run a split set up (RS & Amp at the same time) if that idea appeals to you. Good luck!!

  32. You want cheap Amp and effects? Use your comptuer and your rocksmith cable. Ubuntu Studio is free, and you can make a LiveCD/USB so you can use it by just booting to the CD/USB. Uber cool. I also have a Mustang amp that I can control and input, but you really only need your Rocksmith cable. http://i.imgur.com/LyqzxMz.jpg

  34. Adding DD is a fucking 10 second step in the toolkit for the creator, Its a 5 min step for someone who downloaded it work it out for fuck sake it no 2 second job for someone who doesn't even know how to use the toolkit and for those who say if you can't play it why create it, I made a song I cannot play and it seems to be one of my best pieces of work (except for the tone :???:) so you cant say if you can't play then dont make it thats not what RS is about I am afraid.
    1 point
  35. If it's a really small thing to add DD with the toolkit, then the maker should add it. For those that dislike DD, it's an even smaller thing to level up a song inside Rocksmith. Even when fully levelled, having DD makes it easier to tell the sections apart as you get bars with recognisable heights, instead of just thin lines. I agree with BHMath; an approved CDLC should be as complete as an official DLC.

  36. http://i.imgur.com/bTS2BXG.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/5sQbwv2.jpgThese are my two guitars. First one is an Ibanez GiO series guitar I use for most E standard tuning songs I play. I got it last march from Guitar Center after trading in my Epiphone Les Paul Studio which I slightly regret because of the build quality of the Ibanez but I still like it. The guitar on the bottom is my ESP LTD MH-1000FR deluxe. This I used for drop C and D standard. I got this off Ebay almost brand new fo $650, I'd been going after a guitar good for drop tuning, metal-ish songs. Only problem I have with it is the Floyd Rose bridge, I've broken the high e string 3 times already in the past 3 months I've owned the guitar.

  37. @@piepesado Love them both, but the Strat gets more play time especially because of the maple neck. About an hour after I took the photo and posted the pics, I took the Gibson in to have the pickups replaced with Burstbuckers, and a full setup. Really love the Faded Cherry on yours.

This are mine: http://i.cubeupload.com/9nMzTq.jpghttp://i.cubeupload.com/7uQk1S.jpg From left to right: Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded Cherry, I bought this one in Chicago where I lived some months a couple of years ago. This and my first guitar, a classic one were the only ones I purchased brand new. Jackson JS30 KV with floyd and EMG 81 85 ZW combo, I got this one on a online sell site (like US craiglist), the guy played this evil looking Jackson V on a church and that's where I met the guy and tested this axe. Then I won the auction for the Emg ZW combo on ebay with were cheap. Now planning to pimp it with a cool truss rod cover and install a tremol-no so I can drop tune with it. Washburn Shadow Series bass with Emg, I got this bass when I traded my first electric guitar a Washburn brand also, X10 series black strat. She was a really good player for a cheap guitar and sometimes I miss her but having 3 electrics was to much for me and bass is a different instrument so i guess it was worth it. My first guitar was a cheap beginner classical Memphis guitar (I will never sell it since I have an emotional connection with her :P), wasn't room for her on the sofa and its not RS enabled hehe Really nice axes around here guys, cant comment about all of them but I really like the silverburst les paul. @@AtreidesGhola both a Fender strat and a Gibson Les Paul, the best of both worlds. I have massive GAS for a maple fingerborad bass or guitar.

The silverburst is my Adam Jones wannabe guitar. EMG Selects in it, but will be switching to Duncan JB/Jaz pups. Squier Affinity was a $40 score, since traded for a Standard model (below) Douglas is another Rondo product, it hasnt seen much use but is a sweet player SG was a pawn shop score, installed Entwistle HVX pups. The Raven was my first guitar, from 1975. Needs a little work. Here is the latest addition, traded the Affinity and some cash for it, brand new virgin! 48. About 1979 - 1982 while in high school I had my own band called Renegade. A few originals with a lot of covers. Played guitar in this band but also played bass for a couple of different friends that had bands. Mostly rock and metal and a few gigs playing for a country band. 1985 - 1988 Played in a couple of bands that never got as far as getting names. One fell apart after months of rehearsals and one gig where half the band got trashed. The downside to trying to have a band made up of friends who hadn't played in a "working" band before. Then went on to form a band called "The Jake Isles Blues Band" which was kind of a rock edged blues band. The name came as a drunken rehearsal when me and the lead guitar player noticed our singer had us doing a lot of old J. Geils Band covers. As the lead player was a little drunk he angrily said we should just call the band Jake Isles or at least that was what it sounded like with the slurring. I worked (didn't seem like work though) in Maine and New Hampshire for several years in this band and recorded some originals with songs kind of all over the place. Played rhythm for a while in this configuration then ended up playing bass most of the time in this band until varying degrees of interest broke us up. At this point I got rid of almost all my gear I think I had 8 electrics (7 solid bodies and 1 hollow body) , 2 basses, and 2 acoustics and just kept 1 acoustic guitar. In 1989 I bought a Jackson bass (so much for getting rid of everything) and mainly just jammed with people occasionally filling in for some friends or playing for a few songs at their gigs if they wanted a hand. This went on for several years. Then about 1995 I got rid of the new gear I had once again accumulated and once again was back to the single acoustic and found my self playing for my brother in law in his gospel band for several years as a bassist with some guitar duties where fingerpicking was needed. What seemed strange to me was the gospel band had more gigs than any other band I had been in with us playing somewhere pretty much every weekend and usually a couple of weekday gigs every other week or so. Since about 1998 I've been bandless and tried to avoid it due to my work schedule and the fact that if I'm in a band I WANT to play live for people. Just playing with some friends is great but the rush from playing in front of an audience is crazy and once you've done it it's hard to resist. So for now; much like steroma posted above; rocksmith is my band. I wish I was as good as the rest of my band!!
