I think we might need a different track for advanced bass.  From the playthrough vid it looks like Gerudo Valley is a beginner track, a very easy one at that. :)

That's actually the bonus arrangement. The main arrangement is the lead melody, only on bass. :o

This song teeters the line between Int and Adv, but it's short enough that I think it's digestible by intermediate players. The start feels really hard... until you realise you only need two hand positions to play it.

This album was a mainstay when I was in high school and it's still pretty good now that I'm an old man. This one in particular is a great emo kid anthem. Really dark song.

I'm really surprised we haven't managed to play any Galneryus in this competition. One of the best power metal bands out there, full of virtuosos. I suck at this tune - my stamina's usually pretty gone by the last half of the song - but it's a blast anyway.

If it's the part I'm thinking of, it's more a 7 or 8. :D

Wow!     You weren't kidding about this track!  This really IS just the lead path on bass isn't it?  That's definitely not an invitation for guitarists to post up emulated bass scores mind!  <_<  (mutters.....)

I haven't posted in a few weeks.  So just to prove that I'm not in FreeBird jail, here are a couple of quick scores.

Bad Rep on bass = 100%

Nothing to Lose = 98% on my first try.  I know that they're relatively local to my home town, but I don't care for the song enough to chase a better score.  I do, however, have other treats in mind for the FreeBird Police this week.

  • "Oh no, not me, I never lost control, You're face to face with the man who sold the world" David Bowie - RIP
  • "Like a bird on the wire, Like a drunk in a midnight choir, I have tried in my own way to be free" Leonard Cohen - RIP
  • "Roll over Beethoven, Dig these rhythm and blues" Chuck Berry - RIP

Peek inside 2groggy's basement FreeBird Laboratory (not for the faint of heart)

  1. Talkbass Winter Build Off 2019 - Tobias Bass Shape Bass VI for @ gNat
  2. Talkbass Winter Build Off 2019 - SG shaped Bass VI for me
  3. Tdpri Winter Build Off 2021 - Thunderbird 5 because Thunderbirds are Go
  4. TDPRI Brotherhood Build Hollow Archtop Bass VI

You know that feeling when the song ends and you see its not 100% and you wonder what you missed. Yeah, I do...

So then I decide to pick up a guitar, it has been about a year now. Its is half the weight and it feels like it should be a kids guitar because the 1st fret on a guitar is at the place a 5th fret is on a bass. It felt very odd to say the least.

Yup!  Know exactly what you mean.  And the strings feel about half the distance apart too. I don't know how people can flip back and forth between the two.

Thank you NHS!  Whilst it may be a couple of weeks before I go bodyboarding again, I'm so glad to be back playing bass.

I was so excited I forgot to take a screen shot at the right time:

Lesson learnt:

I have played it before, although this is possibly my best score ever on it:

And back to normal, i.e. I don't really know what I'm supposed to be playing here, so half of it is guesswork.  Also playing with a pick is surely right?
