  1. This Life on my hollow archtop bass VI @ 98.5%. I had to transpose the last few sections to the higher strings below the 12th fret because there is no cutaway and that's where the neck meets the body.
  2. Life on Mars? - I'm in! Have a Cigar - I'm in deep. Riverman sounds cool and worth some effort. Acoustic versions incoming! Oh, and a hollow archtop bass VI build in progress because I just can't help myself - Take THAT FreeBird Police.
  3. I got Iris on bass up to 100% pretty quickly. I'll try to work on Poison Arrow this week, but not using the acoustic - I'll dust off one of the Bass VIs.
  4. Oooh - excellent choice for advanced bass.
  5. Thanks @Rodman I'm still woodshedding on it. Both acoustically and amplified, it is intolerant of fingering sloppiness. You can hear every squeak and clank. I'll report back after I shed a few lazy habits. Maybe I'll experiment with some form of string mute too. And thanks for reminding me. I need to make an addendum to my pervious post... Take that FreeBird police!
  6. I need to get adjusted to my new bass, so I'll jump in on Daft Punk this week. First off, I just finished building this acoustic thunderbird 5 and strung it BEADG. I'm not used to the tuning, string spacing or scale, so This will take some work. so far, I'm up to 98.3% Here's a link to the thread with picture of the bass https://www.tdpri.com/threads/2021-winter-build-off-thunderbird-5.1057864/page-6 Edit - the whole build thread is in Link # 4 of my signature VVVVVVV
  7. Can you throw a tribute in the mx: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/hilton-valentine-animals-guitarist-dead-obit-1121412/ The guitar intro to House of the Rising Sun is probably the most recognizable intro in the British Invasion. RIP Hilton Valentine
  8. RS crashed an lost the screen shot, but trust me... Sleigh Ride on Bass = 100% I'm FreeBird, so my score doesn't matter, but for the record, Ping's score is slightly higher. A FreeBird Christmas to all!
  9. +1 on having instruments that don't agree with downtuning. And cool axe BTW
  10. RIP Spencer Davis, namesake of the Spencer Davis Group Tribute to follow, after I get home from work 2020 Sucks
  11. 2groggy

    Ska & Reggae

RIP Toots Hibbert (Maytals) https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-54129388 Thanks for the skank
  12. Third RIP this week. Brutal RIP Little Richard
  13. Two RIP posts in the same week. depressing RIP Florian Schneider, co-founder of Kraftwerk
  14. Here I go again. Disappearing for months at a time, returning only to deliver bad news. We lost another hero. RIP Dave Greenfield of The Stranglers. He was the keyboardist that defined The Stranglers' unique sound. I just spent the last hour playing tributes of Golden Brown, No More Heros, Nice 'n Sleazy, Peaches, Skin Deep, et al. I'll try top post the screen shots when I get a moment. No More Heros, indeed.
  15. More bad news to the last few FreeBirds... Ain't No Sunshine because RIP Bill Withers The screen shot disappeared, but after all these years, when it comes to a tribute, you can trust me. Lean on Me, on bass, 97.5%
  16. My post disappeared. At the risk of duplication, Roll The Bones by Rush, on bass
  17. Neil Peart RIP https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/neil-peart-obit-1.5422806 Unfortunately, the only true way to drag 2groggy out of hiding is to lose one of our gods. Having watched "This is Spinal Tap", his daughter, @@GNat, immediately commented "67, that's not bad for a drummer". As dictated by tradition, 2groggy must now download a Rush tune and try to not embarrass himself in covering one of Geddy's bass lines and then post the result in the current week's Customs Forge Championship. 2groggy replied "in my formative years, I really was more of a punk rock, rugby and BEvERages gu
  18. So after a couple of FreeBird trollish posts, I'd better show some scores Stand By Me = 100% I Feel Good = 96% <-- I'll work on this more later.
  19. Because bassists play to support the song. I'll let the lead guitarists make their own excuses. ((runs away giggling, waiting to see if anyone takes the bait)) Great song selection, BTW
  20. That's what we call a "FreeBird moment". You just forgot to post "Take THAT FreeBird Police"
  21. I haven't posted in a while, so here's one to keep the FreeBird Police on their toes, Walkie Talkie Man on bass = 100%
  22. Over the last couple of weeks I've played some tracks but not bothered posting. So just to make sure the the FreeBird Police don't forget me... Arctic Monkeys on bass = 100%
  23. I used to drink Newcastle Brown back in my university days (I won't tell you what millennium or even decade that was), but now I find it much too sweet for my current tastes.
  24. Have you played Tears of Clown? Man that Bass line used to kill me! I must see how I am with it this days. I play the original Smokey Robinson version regularly, but I can't quite keep up to the Beat's version.
