SIDE CHALLENGE - Let´s COVER some [23]

Rules? No rules! We pick a song and everybody is invited to share his version. Songs shall be called every week, if you don´t manage to nail your version within the week - entrances are ALWAYS welcome. No winners, no losers, just fun and personal progress, a bit bringing in the harvest of the hard work we all do here every week by converting to own produced music, and (for me very important) learning (easy versions) of songs to be able to play them anytime when a guitar is in the room - and that shall be a part of thinking on the next song selection maybe.

So - as we had Toto - Africa last week SO MUCH RESPONSE AND PARTICIPATION!!!!!! JUST GREAT, yay!!!! Everyone who has not finished his cover - just post whenever ready in the running week (yes, this one) so we all will recognise it.

This week we get?

@ drand  - you chose one! Any song, we will do it!

Thanks for the honors! How about “And I Love Her” by The Beatles?

Starting up this today,
Amorphis is a cool song, remind me of the band Thrice. The rhythm is very repetitive, I havent manage to find a satisfying strumming tempo as I lose the strumming streak alot of times. Currently working on the lead path with its more complicate hand-eye coordination, so far the sequence seems okayish, just need a bit of practice.

Scores from testing

I must admit that I knew Amorphis quite superficially, but recently I've been listening to their songs a lot and listening to their albums from the newest one back, I've found at least a few cool songs in each one, so a great band! There are also a lot of good CDLCs of their songs so I'll add some more suggestions to the list.

Regarding House of Sleep, this is (in terms of listens) their most popular song, which is why I improved the available CDLC that was many years old to a better quality CDLC.

This is one of their easier songs, the riff is repetitive and not too difficult, but I'm not sure if it's easy enough for beginners. I played this many times while making CDLC so it may seem easier to me. Now I think 4 would be the most appropriate rating, a bit below beginner level but playable.

3uTwRfC.jpeg

Nice metal cover. I think this might be similar in difficulty to the Amorphis song, as @ cacahuate51  mentioned the difficulty of these two charts might be felt differently depending on who has better practiced which playing style.

zMZY95O.jpeg

@ Rodman  mentioned that this is a metal music produced for 15-year-olds. I don't agree with him because I was about 19 when I started listening to Breaking Benjamin 😆
It started with completely different songs, and I heard the first one quite by accident and I liked it. That's why after so many years I still have a sentiment for the band, although I don't listen to them much at the moment.
Sooner Or Later is not one of my favorites, but it has an interesting chart, which is why I chose it. I think there are many that could be liked more, so maybe there will be a chance 🙂

SnKK9uJ.jpeg

This song and the chart is too crazy for me. And this is not my type of music so it might seem harder. There's no solo here but the whole chart is just as hard so maybe even 8.5.

Q5Ko1jY.jpeg

Note regarding to the bass chart of this song. I did not play it, I only checked it visually and assessed that this is a masterclass, but not very difficult. From your scores I see that my rating is too low, so I am changing from 7.5 to 8.5.

Have a nice musweek everyone!

Metal! Finally! \m/ (sorry Gaga & Mars)

Amorphis - House Of Sleep. Very nice beginners song. With a very simple lead part that requires a little practice.

7KQPhUw.jpeg hch40DN.jpeg

In Fear and Faith - Gangsta's Paradise. Nice cover of nice "classic" song.

 gQcdROw.jpeg b04nqVO.jpeg

My brain and my hands can't handle parts like these (in the other songs too):

dM8HnUQ.jpeg  uoLrVko.png

Breaking Benjamin - Sooner Or Later. Are all the BB songs filled with the wide chords? As I remember Diary of Jane, Breath and something from Dear Agony (?) contains them. Anyway I didn't handled it. Many misses from low tuning I think 'cause I remember them even if I did things right 🥲

jLWvtEN.jpeg  WN47SRi.jpeg

Mastodon - Megalodon. Very cool, very nice, very awesome, very incredible and very terrible. But very fun to play.

@ Rodman  thanks for the charts! any possibility of having like a combined cdlc? Like have the bpm start slow and  increase by 10bpm  each X amount of times?

EDIT
i didnt notice  you kinda have that on 2 execises just not all of them.
oOovP3h.png
3BQwZRa.png
this one seemed really mechanical ? lol seems very fast ill be surprised at someone who can 100% it.

i think it would help if throughout the song youd put what is the new bpm and the click track/metronome is pretty low or sometimes sounded like it only played the first beat which i found a bit odd.  more sections just so its more clear what repeats would be nice aswell.
svVoy9l.png

seems like i need to practice 140+. good practice

thanks both of you @ Daz40  and @ Rodman for these exercises! very helpfull

Last week was pierce the veil tho not gag ? but sure i understand hahah

So the picture with the blue notes that you took is actually a good example of fhps/anchors not done manually/properly.
Short explanation: the cdlc could use an update
Long explanation for something you might not care for :

Bad fhps/anchors (the highlighted blue zones on the fretboard ingame) can cause first sight reading to be a bit jarring or confusing. The same riff later has the more "correct " anchor point as shown here:
7 and ends at 10. Meaning you would be using your first finger to hit the blue (since its the first highlighted bar) and your pointer /2nd finger on the red 8. and so on..
I also use pinky on 10 yellow and then when its close to playing the 8s just bar both strings with middle finger. Maybe if they placed handshapes could make that a bit more obvious.
lhiojlk.png

Meanwhile the one in the riff before (your pic) is  5 - 9  implying you to use your pinky and ring finger for red and blue (which is not economical and I personally would not recommend to play it this way).

Usually the automatic fhps do an ok job if you put lots of sections (since you have to have one at the start of a section) . However since theres not that many sections thats why the fhps are a bit wonky. Both done manually will usually lead to best results but can be more time consuming to make.

fhps/anchors are very subjective but if its the same riff with the same context before or after the riff  it should have the same handspots imo to make it easier to read/play.

yea i think you did a goodjob putting it in beginner. It is only like 2 different sections and then the modulation so it should be fine. I am just not used to using my pinky that much but thats the good things of trying new songs. makes you practice the stuff you arent used to

fun
12dPxgJ.png
idk what im doing wrong with the intro riff but it likes to miss alot of notes for somereason and then hameron pulloff detection is hard but I'll still try later this week. Still really love this song and imo still holds up 21 years later. There was a time when I was afraid I'd never see them live but luckily its still a thing. Now its just a matter of waiting and going.

@cacahuate51- thx.

Yeah, i'll be improving the metronome hearability at least in the coming files, it's a huge difference if you have the audioclip played back alone or in the background of your playing.

For the 2 speed building files with increasing bpm i have planned updates with naming the bpm on changes and updated audio. Gimme a few days, i'm absolutely happy i managed to chart and put up that all last weekend... up next is some improved scores and a beatles cover, hell yeah.

But right now getting ready for a few hours of multiplayer 🪨

@ cacahuate51  thank you for the explanation. I tried to RR rhythm's section and my speed limit is 80%. And I use pinkie finger on 8th fret and index finger for 5th. I think if I hold my fingers on 5th, 7th frets and ding my pinkie finger only I would speed a little. But I doubt that wouldn't create more problems in coordination.

Well still too fast. In RR I can almost play the bridge part at 90% in rhythm but my pinky and ring are too slow. And then I tried 100% and SA I messed up in fingers and strings. Lead part is out of my mind.
