  1. Adv Bass update: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=518454310 Really enjoy playing this. I can nail it perfectly at 95% speed but that extra 5% makes it just too quick for me to play it well in SA. Hopefully with a little more practice I can get my pace up. The little arpeggio thing at the end (Bridge? Solo?) was a bit of a brain fart at first but I sat in the living room this morning with Bob and played it over and over until he made me stop by chucking Lego at my head.

  4. The dragon has been slain: http://i.imgur.com/8oY7SaC.jpg Probably going to spend the rest of the week honing my picking hand technique and learning chords. The former fails me far too often even on relatively simple things, and the latter... well, right now most chords that are more complicated than power chords and the ilk are pretty much just guaranteed misses. Like in "I Want You Back" the octave chords are easy (though the strum and muting pattern isn't always), but when those other chords hit everything totally falls apart. Edit: Also, I had one really stupid miss very close to the end of the song. Very glad it didn't push me under 99%!

  6. Boom! Boom! This week will end sooner (around noon CET) due to starting week 100 earlier. I would like to give you at least a little bit more time with week 100, so that unpleasant change is neccesarry. Never forget that weeks start on Saturday!

  7. Ok, I've been a bit lax of late, but I'm back with my full attention… well, maybe... First goes and impressions: Joe Cocker - quite a tricky beginner song (I managed to f*ck it up - not that I'm a bass god or anything, I'm just getting quite good at Rocksmith…): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49Qq-EFnmrKU3A1bTM0Vjk3NVU/view?usp=sharing I'm not sure of the tone on that one either - it's a bit, well, bleurgh. Royal Blood (a band I quite like and a nice difficult advanced song): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49Qq-EFnmrKU3JPVWpKMHJDdUU/view?usp=sharing Sorry, did I say "advanced"? lol And then there's The Jackson 5. I've played it before. Once. I got 75% (yes, I actually stayed in there and finished the song). Tonight I did a hell of a lot better on my second go, 84%. I gave it another go on Score attack: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B49Qq-EFnmrKTjJWZGpjVV9oVXM/view?usp=sharing I need to get some practice in this week… :)

  8. You are now back in my good books and "Nice douche" status is resumed :) Thank you for the proper notice  So I was faffing about a bit today just running the bassline through my head and set myself a target to get 97.9% accuracy and this happened... Update: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=518944446... I don't know if my widdley widdley mantra throughout the day in my brain helped this or I just suddenly got, good? *Upwards affliction to the voice!* Gag me with a spoon! :D

  9. I smashed my pinky with a hammer at work today, so its out of order for a while. Im not even going to try to play Hanuman without the use of my pinky and with a stupid bandage that gets in the way for the rest of the fingers. So here is some beginner instead. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k228/maztor42/Rocksmith%20championship%202014/You%20can%20leave%20your%20hat%20on%209904_zpsmlsg74k3.jpg

  10. I'll just start by saying hello everyone! I am new to this site and all it has to offer, and I am impressed. I have had absolutely 0 trouble getting custom tracks on Rocksmith 2014 for PC. No trouble understanding the tutorials at all, so kudos to those that wrote them. I am a bit overwhelmed of all the song selections, this is great! I just wanted to thank everyone involved with this site, including the members that take their own time to create and upload as well. Keep up the good work everyone!

  12. So... are you all ready? http://i.imgur.com/LZ0YdUu.jpg I suck at all right hand technique, knowing which string is which, and all chords (and I find it hilarious that I can fret an F power chord using only my first and second finger). Fear me! I might try doing a rhythm run on Servitude just for kicks. Was feeling like I could do pretty well on it based on my bass run, then I realized there's probably palm muting and some other crap I'm probably not expecting. Here's a small album with pictures of the guitar if you want to see it. My camera's not great and I don't have the steadiest hand, so I apologize for crappy quality on some of the pictures. Anyway, the goal for this week is probably just to get promoted. Not sure if 99% will be easy, but it should be achievable with some practice and me getting in a run where I don't get too confused while navigating the strings.

  13. http://i.imgur.com/QGuzOk7.jpg Bass arrangement is nearly the exact same chart. Only differences are less chugging and a couple chords and licks are an octave down. Honestly, bass emulation sucks and I have more fun with the Lead, so I'm gonna keep playing the Amp FX chart. Not like I'm in Intermediate, so doesn't really matter to me whether it "counts".

  14. Oh, yeah. Forgot to say - for Royal Blood, I had to stop at the start to find my 20th fret… then I didn't bother with any of the chords, and I forgot where my 20th fret was by the time it came around again… lol. I'd love to practice it this week, but what wit the tuning down, and the work I know I have to do on the Jacksons, it's not going to happen. :(

  15. Advanced Rhythm: Well, not my cup of tea, but its good to listen to something different every once in a while. Advanced Lead: Going Intermediate next week... Advanced Bass: For me, these are some weird basslines :D This week's songs are going to stay as a trivia for me :D They are interesting, but not something I would listen to.

  24. I'm traveling most of this week so I'll only have today and tomorrow, and most of the days are filled up with the honey dew list. Joe Cocker - a cool groove and lots of fun 99% I don't have time to perfect it this week. Maybe I'll taunt the FreeBird police by carrying it over into next week. Jackson 5 - also lots of fun. I'd been working on this one a few months back and never quite got my speed where it needs to be. So far, I'm back up to on it. 94% but I'm expecting to improve. I won't have time to do anything serious with Fishbone, so I'll try the other one in a minute

  28. Hi all, actually I'm creating customs from Guitar Pro tabs that I wrote for education. This blues exercises are inspired by the book "Play Blues Guitar" by Jürgen Kumlehn, but I took only the riffs (Lead) and create full tracks of it with Lead, Rhythm, Bass and Drums in GP6. Thanks to Guitar Pro 6 which is able to convert the tabs also to wav, so I use the GP audio. (To record everything would be much to much work). The idea is to use this customs for practicing some standard blues riffs in typical 12 bar shape, in this case for accompaniment. The shapes are here as followed, always 12 bars then repeat, every shape is played 4 times. The steps are written in Roman numerals. A step belongs to the chord of it's ascending scale. If i.e. A Major is the key, the Chords to this key are A, Bm, C#m, D, E, F#m, G#mb5. Standard 12 Bar Blues shape uses only A, D, E, what are at the steps 1, 4 and 5, thus I, IV and V in this case the shape: I I I I IV IV I I V IV I V this formula works in all keys Of course you can use it also to improvise, every custom of them will have an additional bonus track without any notes for jamming. Metronome tracks are also available for each path (bonus) except the Bonus Jam Track. we start with easy ones Exercise 1 Blues Comping 1 shuffled 8ths in A major 12 Bar Blues accompaniment in A-major @ 90 bpm, easy level on all paths. The tabs for all arrangements are written by myself, also drums and bass. Lead Rhythm Bass http://thumbs.picr.de/23142836tl.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/23174590zs.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/23174640ic.jpg Exercise 2 Blues Comping 2 in A major with straight eights @ 120 bpm again an easy one with single notes on lead guitar, rhythm guitar with chords and bass. Lead Rhythm Bass http://thumbs.picr.de/23174889hb.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/23174891zn.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/23174908we.jpg Exercise 3 Blues Comping 3 in G major @ 120 bpm, advanced level Again a 12 Bar Blues, this one is a little bit harder, especially the rhythm guitar since it's played in a funky rhythm quite a lot of fun if you've got the groove Lead Rhythm Bass http://thumbs.picr.de/23201246ep.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/23201266xx.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/23201281qn.jpg Exercise 4 Blues Comping 4 in E major @ 90 bpm (shuffle) 12 Bar, all paths Lead Rhythm Bass http://thumbs.picr.de/23267054sh.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/23267071da.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/23267115mz.jpg Part 2 Now let's continue with some more advanced stuff The next track is from Peter Fischer's book Survival Guitar, chapter Blues. I took the soundtrack from CD and modified it a bit, cut, copied and pasted 3 chorus into the song that it has 4 12 Bar chorus instead only one. Now we have the same lenght than all other exercises and a great sounding backingtrack (no GP RSE this time). Also I managed to add a "Vocals" track which shows information every bar i.e.: 1 - E7 (I) what means bar number of a chorus (1), actual chord (E7) on this step (I). (I will update all other exrecises with this feature later.) This exercise still uses the same shape like the first 4 exercises, I-I-I-I-IV-IV-I-I-V-IV-I-V, but now we have a turnaround in the 11th bar and as an Intro before the first bar. also the lead path is played with some rakes what makes it more advanced. Rhythm path is mostly offbeat with deadnotes (chords) in between, and the song is again in shuffle/swing feel at ~115bpm. The bass plays a walking bass line. Like all others it has metronome as bonus track on all paths and on lead a Jam-bonus track without any notes for improvisation. Exercise 5 Blues Comping 5 in E major the sheets: Lead Rhythm Bass http://thumbs.picr.de/24690165ze.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/24693015bl.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/24690188gr.jpg -enjoy this 5th exercise- Exercise 6 The next one is again the 12 bar shape like usual with an additional Quickchange on the 2nd Bar, IV instead I. Now the 12 bar shape looks like this I IV I I IV IV I I V IV I V With a rate of 140bpm and a shuffle/swing feel it's on a higher level. Also it includes any turnarounds. all tabs and music of these are created by myself, only helper was GP6 which enabled sheets and sound (and of course EOF and all other amazing tools that are needed to create any cdlc, thanks to the developers :) ). Blues Comping 6 in B major the sheets Lead Rhythm Bass http://thumbs.picr.de/24947606qf.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/24947608sx.jpg http://thumbs.picr.de/24947612hi.jpg I try to show always only one page of the sheet for every arrangement, so it requires sometimes to hide the traditional note system, then only the tablature is shown. At this one I had to do the screenshots earlier since I created a second drum and decided to mix them, therefore I had to split up the repeats to have the first two chorus a halftime shuffle and the 3dr and 4th more forward drums. Unfortunately later in EOF I decided to change the first three bars note positions at Lead in every chorus, same notes but easier to handle, so this three bars are not exactly the same as in the sheet. Challenge 7 for the next track I don't provide tabs since it's just too much, too many variations because it's a real audio recorded by myself with drum, bass and 2 guitars. For more information see the release notes at the record page. If you need tabs you can extract them with the RS to Tab tool or with the newest Toolkit, I heard this can do the job as well. Now folows as promised a 12 bar Minor Blues in this shape with a quick change at 2nd bar I m7 IV m7 I m7 I m7 IV m7 IV m7 I m7 I m7 bVI 7 V7 I m7 V7 Fripples - B-Minor-Blues (blues comping7) is a cosy shuffle @ 98bpm this time it's not named as a You exercise but rather a full value song, performed by me. The cdlc contains a Rhythm guitar which is the Blues comping 7 Lead guitar which is an improvisation, nice solo blues licks the whole song Bass guitar of course additional I created tracks with muted instruments from the multirack, but I suggest, esp the solo guitar, have a good ear on it (the main track with all instruments) before playing the muted ones, because RS of course is not capable to display things like articulation, so play also with your ears and your heart! Challenge 8 this is another tune I created by my own. Like the B-Minor I composed, played and recorded all instruments and finally mixed down in home production. More informations about the production and the set up you find at the record page of this custom. It's another 12 Bar Blues in G-minor, slightly different shape than before: Fonk de Blues it starts with a 8 bar funky pentatonic riff, then follows the 12 bar blues shape in a funky way (2x) then over 2 chorus (12 bar bs) a guitar solo, then 8 bars a catchy octave vamp, again the 12 bar theme (2x) then the riff from start 8 bars, last but not least 8 bars the octave vamp as an outro the blues shape now looks like that Im Im Im Im IVm IVm Im Im V7 IVm Im V7#9 Fripples - Fonk de Blues (Blues Comping As already said the lead guitar has a nice solo in the middle, some funky riffs and a single note line during the 12 bar shape. The rhythm guitar doubles the riff and the vamp once, the second time it's doubled transposed by an octave up. At the blues shape parts the rhythm guitar plays chords and many dead notes with wah pedal. The bass is a nice and groovy slap line. Key is G-minor, straight eights at 102 bpm, very nice to play (and to listen I mean) Again I made also a No Lead, No Rhythm and No Bass track with the multitrack audio. enjoy it! have fun with this challenging exercises, I do

  29. I have been playing bass now for 8 months, and I feel quite self-conscious about my playing abilities. Some buddies have asked to jam in the past but I have been kicking my feet and turning them down because I just don't know if I'm good enough at it. I was wondering - when you have a complex song, how long does it take you to get "good" at it? Because I tried Phantom of the Opera by Iron Maiden, and that's a tricky song in and of itself. (not me playing it) It took me like a week to get it down, but it's not really perfect. I struggle a bit with the solo. Also, I seem to have a hard time with the power chords. The frets are kind of far apart, so I have to use my index finger and my pinky to do power chords. Is this normal? Or should I opt for a bass with a smaller neck?

  30. The issue is that EOF wants you to define the end position of slides as the lowest used fret instead of the lowest fretted string (ie. the unpitched slide in question should end at fret 6 instead of fret 8). Additionally, in this particular example the bug seemed to only happen because the sliding chord was linked to the previous chord and was recreated as single notes. I've added error checking to Rocksmith export so that if a project with this peculiarity is saved again, the note exports as a non slide. I've also updated the tab notation to display question marks in this scenario and the dialog functions and manual also now reflect the meaning of the slide's end position. And on that note, the latest hotfix (9-15-2015) is in the first post. Changes are as follows: *Fixed a bug with the sorting logic that would prevent temporary notes from being properly removed after Rocksmith 2 export. *Fixed a bug with the "Edit frets/fingering" dialog where setting a string to be muted would cause EOF to incorrectly ask to set a high fret limit for the track. *Added error checking to RS export's handling of pitched and unpitched slides.

  31. @@eezstreet - Are you talking about for playing the song outside of Rocksmith? If so, I haven't really found playing the song through to be that effective in really learning it. Unless the riffs and song structure are relatively simple (which they definitely are not for Phantom of the Opera) I tend to need to slow things down significantly so I can have time to digest things and really internalize what comes next at every point in the song, as opposed to just reacting to what's on screen. "Slowing things down" can mean using RR (it looks like the custom has very few sections, so that might not be as useful as it could be), or it can mean using a tab (if you don't have one for the song, you can export the tab using the Toolkit). As for how long it takes to get "good" at a song (perhaps just in Rocksmith), it depends on how the song compares with my skill level. If it's well below that, then I can feel pretty confident about doing a recording after only one or two times through. For songs that are at or above my skill level, it can take much longer. Last week we played "Domination" by Symphony X in the Championship, and this was a song that I'd practiced for maybe 2 months (not exclusively, of course) beforehand. At the end of the week I was able to hit ~98% in Rocksmith (most of my misses in the fast hammer-ons and tapping section) and recorded this playthrough out of Rocksmith (which you should hear as, well, pretty damn sloppy. Here's that audio with some post-processing plus the original song audio. It makes it sound a little better, but there should still be many points where I stand out in a bad way.). So, yeah, it can take quite a while depending on the song. There are some songs where I'd have to learn advanced techniques, or apply the techniques I already know at a higher level, that would take even longer to get to that level of mastery, and that's still a long way from perfecting the song. As for playing octaves with the pinky, there have been some Maiden songs where I switched between pinky and ring finger when fingering octaves (or fifths) depending on the fretboard position. I think it might have been "Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger" that had this long section of fifths that changed the index finger position between the 2nd and 12th fret, and I switched to pinky at the lower frets for comfort and to avoid tiring out the finger. Also, for the solo (I'm guessing you're talking about 3:50-4:07 in the video in particular?), I might suggest just trying to hammer on to the second note on the G string. It won't be entirely authentic, but it will be much easier to play. The other thing that might help is to get more comfortable with raking, if you're not already using that. Or even a 3-finger plucking technique, though that's a lot to develop.

  33. A fan of four teams? Anyway, I wouldn't describe myself as a big fan of any team, but growing up in western NY the team I have the most connections with are the Bills. Pity me and my friends. I Billieve that they will raise our hopes (great start!), crater out of the playoff race in a devastating fashion, then in the off-season myopically mortgage the future for a present that won't quite work out, then rinse and repeat. And I don't think you're really going out on a limb by selecting that as the game of the week. Never a bad thing (at least for the spectators) to have some of the best teams and QBs match up during the regular season.

  35. i would play it with the 3 and 4 finger so that the 4 stay on the 15E and i just need to add the 1st finger on the 12B to play it.

  36. I just simply enjoy playing music I like, especially music I have a personal attachment to. As to keep playing consistently? I can't answer that because I fail at it lol. I did everything I possibly could to motivate me everyday. Post it note reminders, a guitar figure on my desk, bought my dream guitar, named the dream guitar, etc. Yet I'll still go on two week or longer dry periods of not playing/practicing. One thing that was helping me though was asking songs my friends would like to hear me play and I compiled them. Sorted them by easiest to hardest for my skill level and started cracking at them along with my normal playlist. When I'd get competent enough at it, I'd play it for them. Some would karaoke along or just listen. It also helped me practice variety of genres and styles.

  39. Punishment for extra played notes?! Maybe in Score Attack, but please never in Learn a Song! I would go crazy if I wasn't allowed to improv solos during long rests. Hell, I find myself chugging and adding extra flairs during simple riffs to avoid boredom, too.

  40. Just one song I like in this weeks Championship  But more than nothing: Out Of The Black. Would rate its difficult like 5-6 because of the ending which gets a bit more difficult than the rest. http://www.bilder-upload.eu/show.php?file=cffda2-1442148636.jpg Btw is everyone (like me) able to suggest a CDLC for the upcoming week(s)? And if yes, who do I have to send a private message?

  43. I don't know what you mean. I think I only used mine once during this playthrough, and that was a mistake: http://i.imgur.com/mfgdP4S.jpg Edit: Also, @ - since you mentioned it for "Call of Ktulu", I think the measures early in the song all start a quarter note early - this is especially notable if you RR some of the riffs around there, as they all start and end mid-riff. This seems to rectify itself by the end of the solo section. As hinted at by the text above my screenshot, I think the main riff can be made easier by converting many of the A's played on the E string to open A's. Though that might make it harder to read, so I'm not 100% sure about that. Anyway, they either surround other notes played on the A string or are isolated, so I don't really see why they should be played on the E. Sync and tones were awesome. Great job! On other topics, "I Want You Back" should be a good one for the advanced bassists. It's one of the first songs that I really tried learning once I picked my bass back up at the start of this year, and was great motivation for getting back into it and learning new techniques. I'd say that most of the song is probably low advanced level, but the riff in the interlude is easily masterclass - I still don't really have the hang of that one. For "Out of the Black", I actually think this one could arguably be the hardest of the bass tracks. The main part of the song isn't too hard, but there's a good amount of position shifts and such, which might be enough to cause a few misses for intermediate players. But where the difficulty really comes in is that last riff. That one totally messed me up the first time I played the song (to the tune of a 94%), and even after a bit of RR I still was pretty shaky on it and only hit 99.1% or something around there. So that will tear the intermediates a new one. Oh, and I need to hit the SSL.

  44. We didn't play bass for Ironbound because it was like... crap? :P And nev is right @ - Royal Blood has 2 members - one on bass and one on drums. You can't get closer to Bass-Only then that :) Not clean for Guitar-Only is 4 Non Blondes ;) PS. This new :) smile is just too creepy. Former one was way more gentle.

  45. @ My reasoning for requesting was Royal Blood is just Bass and Drums, its an effect he does with his amps and its awesome, the guitar path shouldnt even exist. I didnt say anything during the week we played little monster because i didnt know, when I saw them over the summer it was incredible how he could do that(his frickin amp setup was tasty). That and I really wanted a good solid bass song to accompany Hanuman, and Out of The Black seemed like a beautiful fit. I'll admit this was more me testing the opposite of the "If it has bass then it cant be guitar only" rule of the selection process. Where what if an instrument that doesnt exist in the song gets charted. If its really a problem...we never did see bass for Ironbound...

  49. Rocksmith is kinda pointless in these kinds of songs. It does not detect muting or strumming patterns. I just mashed the chords and got a score i did not even come close to deserving. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k228/maztor42/Rocksmith%20championship%202014/Hanuman%20Rhythm%2095_zpsvierllhq.jpg

I hope the rest of the Americans had a good labor day weekend, and you Euros and others had a good time doing whatever crap you do at the end of summer :D Anyway, did any guitarists have a chance to check out any of the tunes I posted a few days back? Also probably worth checking out the tuning on the Stones tracks for the people who have an ear for whether/how much things are tuned sharp or flat. Thanks!
