  1. I'm getting worse at Space Truckin', so I'll try again later. In the meantime, might as well foray into Beginner Lead again since I'm enjoying the song: My kind of lead song -- power chords throughout, and a solo that isn't too nuts. The beginning with hammering up from 7 to 9 to 11 on the high e is fun, handled that pretty OK. The rest will take some RR, although I might be screwed on the end of it because my fretboard doesn't go up to 24. I guess an Explorer tends to be more of a "rhythm" guitar shape, so mine only goes up to 22. Plus I couldn't bend from there even if it did go up to 24...

  2. Another little increase. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k228/maztor42/Rocksmith%20championship%202014/SpaceTruckin9556_zps57cabfa1.jpg Now if we only had a bit better sections so it was possible to practice just to solo. Might have to look into that later today.

  4. Kept having more problems with this than I should have: But even though I'm not really a Good Charlotte kind of guy, I must admit I like the song. Now with those 2 100's out of the way, time to concentrate on Space Truckin'. I realized that my version of Juular with B Standard in the bonus bass is less than ideal because I don't think you can play a bonus arrangement in Score Attack?
    4 points
  5. Easy fix to convert the bass part of Juular to B Standard (for a 5 string) instead of Open B. I did it as the Bonus Bass arrangement, so nothing destructive done to the original Open B variant as the default bass arrangement. Here's a first try with that change: I was worried about the frethand positioning being screwy, but honestly I think it works out great. No funky stretches or anything, everything is played on B and E strings. Anyone with a 5 string, or a 4 that handles BEAD better than Open B, is welcome to try it out (again, note that the B Standard version is in BONUS BASS): https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2GRHIrNcVrSSS1zR1prVUpZR0E/view?usp=sharing (Hope I'm not stepping on any toes @@Nacholede -- I can take it down if you prefer, PM or shout at me here) Also, I will leave it to @@Mortalo 's discretion to decide if a version altered in this way should be allowed to count for championship entry score purposes. Same number of notes and everything; the actual difference is pretty small -- all the notes in the original were on the lowest 2 strings (B and F#), so the chart is should be identical except for everything that was on the F# string is fretted 2 spaces higher to compensate for it being E instead of F#. All that was done automatically in EOF, so it should be identical -- just transcribed. It sounded like it did that correctly in my quick test, but my daughter is asleep next to me here so I had the volume low and it is possible I missed something.

  11. Updates: Int First to 100, I think? Not that it counts since I'm not in the class. MC Nice solid improvement from 1st to 2nd try, so I think I've got a reasonable ceiling here. But today I really noticed some sync issues -- if this comes down to Master Mode I forsee some problems arising from that. Looks like it was synced with the "sync the notes" technique rather than making a beatmap, which will make it a bit of a pain in the ass to fix, too. ...Less successful on Beginner -- I keep missing a note or two in the part where you're actually doing something right after a quick up/down slide. Should be able to get a handle on that though. And I have yet to try Juular again. I think I might go straight to opening it up with the editor and check feasibility of converting it to BEAD.

  12. Since you're determined to use the Xbox even though it is cheaper to buy the PC version than it is to mod the console, the file location for where to put CDLC is listed herehttp://customsforge.com/topic/901-how-to-use-custom-dlcs-in-rs2014/. Beyond that I don't know. Honestly, it's just easier to use your PC or Mac, but it's your world.

  16. I've tried all the songs on bass - here are prelim. difficulty thoughts: Beginner Bass: Good Charlotte - Like It's Her Birthday Nice middle of the road easy song for beginner. Not too fast, not too much shifting, relatively few total different notes (not as few as Black Magic, but not lots). Still, it is a good practice song for beginner level because of the variations in strum patterns and note durations -- although Rocksmith tends to be very forgiving about those kinds of things, so you can screw it up and still get a 100% accuracy. Your ear will tell you when you are doing it right, though. My preliminary difficulty rating: 2 (perfect fit for Beginner level, practices a specific aspect of playing that beginners may need to develop) Intermediate Bass: Dragonforce - Soldiers of the Wasteland If the speed was lower and the note durations constant, this would almost be a Beginner song. However, it is quite fast in spots, and does have some speed variations that bump up the rating a bit. It is fast enough for long enough that it requires a good amount of endurance to pull it off. Another thing to consider is that the speed and regularity at the very least favor (if not almost require) using a pick and alternate picking, which some bass players aren't practiced at. Considering that, I think I'd rate this as a midrange Intermediate song. And actually, with some caveats I'd personally rate it as harder than the advanced song, so if anyone chimes in agreeing, maybe we should switching these 2 around from Int to Advanced and vice versa. My preliminary difficulty rating: 5 (average Intermediate level) Advanced Bass: Devin Townsend Project - Juular I kinda like the song, but I think this isn't a great choice for the championship because of the tuning (open B is pretty out there, a high percentage of 4 string basses won't really be playable tuned down to B without heavy gauge strings). That's just my 2 cents though. Full disclosure, I only "played" the song on my 5 string by keeping the low B, skipping the E, and then fretting the A D G strings just to get past the tuning stage. Then I still got a first try accuracy in the mid 90s by playing the stuff on the B string (90%+ of the song) and trying to adjust the fretting to stuff on other strings in my brain on the fly. If one assumes that a player has successfully tuned their bass for the song, the chart is quite easy. Like, arguably beginner easy. Harder than the Good Charlotte song, but at least in my opinion easier than the Dragonforce one. So, again I think I'd personally recommend switching these 2 middle songs (or providing an alternate if people have as many difficulties with the tuning as I think they might)... My preliminary difficulty rating: 4 (3.5 with an extra half point for the hassle of tuning to Open B) MC Bass: Deep Purple - Space Truckin' Definitely toughest of the lot, but I think 100%s are well within the reach of the MC pros. The sync felt a little off in places to me, but maybe that was just my timing. Beyond that, it's got a good amount of shifting, notes on all strings, and some fancy fretwork required. I'd say not as hard as Smoke on the Water, because there aren't as many variations and intricate riffs. I'd call this one a middle of the road Advanced. My preliminary difficulty rating: 7.5 (I'd recommend this one to players in Advanced that want to push their skills a bit more than the 2 middle songs, although the Dragonforce song is good practice for alternate picking and endurance building) ...More personal thoughts and first try scores to follow soon, and I'll do a followup later in the week with adjusted ratings again also!

  25. You're correct, bonus arrangements are not available in Score Attack (although I really never understood why that happens, but the game creators must have had their reasons), so unless the arrangement is a "normal" arrangement, there's no SA available. I've noticed some sync issues on Space Truckin', there's at least 2 sections that the notes are very noticeable out of sync, the 2 runs I made at bass arrangement of the song, instead of listening to the sound of the music and play to the beat, I had to focus on the notes on the screen not to miss them, because on the 1st run when I played the notes on the beat of the music, they shown as "MISS".

  40. Although none of the songs were previous favorites of mine (hadn't even heard any other than Space Truckin' before...), I'm kinda digging them all, actually. Fun week! Beginner: Forgot to screenshot my first try, I'll get around to it eventually. I like the song though, so I'll probably shoot for a 100% (almost got that on the first run, just butterfinger'ed a bit). Intermediate (Advanced?) Pretty close to as fun as Through the Fire and the Flames, which has become a favorite custom song of mine. I've got a 100% before on that one, I think this is a bit easier so should be doable here too. Always fun to see a streak in the 1000+ range... :) Advanced (Int?) I took a screenshot, but I won't post it because I didn't actually tune to the song properly, so it makes the song look harder than I think it is because I was goofing around trying to adjust the chart on the fly. I may get around to doing in properly... OR, I may edit the tuning to B standard and redo the chart -- I think it only has notes on the lowest 2 strings if I remember right, so it would probably be fairly easy to transcribe that to B and A strings in BEAD(G). MC Quite fun, and I was already hitting the main riff much better by the end of the song than when I started, so with some RR and practice I think I can get pretty solid on this one. Just as an aside, if you like this one make sure to get Smoke on the Water from the official Deep Purple DLC. Bass part is really really fun, and more challenging than it seems like it should be ... especially since the main guitar riff is probably one of the most common first things an aspiring lead guitar player learns.

  46. Almost same age. I am 53 in a few days and I just started playing bass 5 weeks ago. I've played drums professionally for over 17 years (started with 14), but after an accident i could not use my right leg as usal and it started to hurt after less than 30minutes of playing, so I had to quit. Was really frustraiting for me. After all the years I thought, why not play any other instrument and so I started with the bass. You're right, learning is quite much harder in our age, but I spend almost 2 hours a day for practice and it works better and better and my target is to play in a band again - maybe not as a professional (almost too old for this), but in a cover band to do some gigs a year and some jam sessions. @@drewhark Scales (playing forth and back) are one of the most important things to learn, same as all the notes of the fretboard - this is what all teachers are telling on and on. You also should do finger training and play all possible variations of 1-2-3-4, 1-3-4-2, 2-3-4-1- and so on over the total fretboard is a very good training - and with all notes - quartes, 8th, 16th. Always start very slow and than speed it up AND VERY IMPORTANT: always with a metronome!

  47. 35 too old? haha, I'm picking up a musical instrument for the first time in my life at 54! Definitely wish I would have started 20, 40 even 50 years earlier, but still having fun! It's a challenge and the learning is certainly coming slower than it would have at a much younger age, but it is still progressing. I don't ever expect to progress to the point of playing with a band or anything, I just enjoy being able to jam on guitar and bass with all these songs I've been playing on air guitar all these years. Love this site and appreciate all the hard work that goes into creating the content here.

  49. Notes in sync with the rhythm : All the logic of DDC is based on the position of the notes and the chords in the beats and measures. So to obtain the best result : - Correctly define the time signature in EOF (multiple signatures allowed in the same track) - Move the beat positions in EOF to synchronize the tab with the soundtrack (and not the notes and chords) - If you have to move a few notes, define a grid snap in EOF (1/16 or 1/32 or 1/64) - Before generating DD levels, check the notes which are out of sync with the "Highlight non grid snapped notes" EOF functionality Sections and phrases : DDC can work with no section and no phrase, but not in an optimal way. Good to know : - Sections are very important in RS2014 to select sub-part of the song in the "Riff Repeater". - Phrases are important for the "Dynamic Difficulty" in RS2014 as they define a learning sequence of notes and chords. - DDC is able to create the phrases but it does it in a non-clever way (all sections are divided in conformity with the "phrase length" parameter) For best results with DDC : - Correctly define all sections of the song in EOF (hardest solos can be divided in multiple sections) - Correctly define your own phrases in EOF (eventually with various lengths) to be sure that the same repeated phrases in the song contain the same sequence of notes. How to limit the number of DD levels : In the previous releases of DDC, there were no merging process of contiguous levels, so the "ddc_5_max_levels.xml" and "ddc_8_max_levels.xml" were created to limit the maximum number of DD levels. Since DDC v2.4, there is a configuration file which allows a fine setting of the merging process. To obtain a best result : - Use the "ddc_default.xml" ramp-up model (or "ddc_chords_protector.xml" or "ddc_chords_remover.xml") to generate all non-empty levels - Create your own "myconfig.cfg" or modify the "ddc_default.cfg" to define the intensity of the merging process with these three parameters : - maxDifferencesBeforeMerging (default is 10%) : two contiguous levels may be merged together if there are less than 10% differences between them - maxDifferencesAfterMerging (default is 30%) : the two contiguous levels are effectively merged together if the resulting level has less than 30% of differences with the previous one - maxDifficultyLevelToProtect (default is 20%) : all 20% of first levels (based on the ramp-up model) are always protected (never merged together) Example n°1 : DD remover (ddc_merge_all_levels.cfg) is based on the following setting : - maxDifferencesBeforeMerging = 100% - maxDifferencesAfterMerging = 100% - maxDifficultyLevelToProtect = 0% Example n°2 : DD maximum levels (ddc_keep_all_levels.cfg) is based on the following setting : - maxDifferencesBeforeMerging = 0% - maxDifferencesAfterMerging = 0% - maxDifficultyLevelToProtect = 100% So for best results, never use the old ramping-up models ("ddc_5_max_levels.xml" and "ddc_8_max_levels.xml") and adjust your preferences of the merging process in the new configuration file. Take a look in the DDC log files When you generate DD on your XML files, DDC produces a complete log file with a lot of useful informations. In the first part of this log file, DDC writes all inconsistencies as "Warnings" or "Errors". Some of them can be automatically corrected by DDC to avoid crash cases in RS2014. You can also use these log files to check the quality of the generated DD (all notes by level for each phrase) before testing your new song in RS2014.
