MC Bass:

" It's not played fingered originally is it?"

Yes it is. Steve Harris is a beast master of the three finger technique.

Fixed xD

Actually, Steve Harris plays with only two fingers. It's a pretty common misconception, though, Doesn't change the fact that songs like "The Trooper" and "Run to the Hills" have inspired lots of people to pick up three finger technique.

@@Gamut - Most of the things I did were pretty small tweaks. Noticed a few random notes that were off in the verses, and the first bit of the first solo seemed a bit off, and some bends had weird things going on with the tech notes underneath them (for example, one note had a really long sustain that should have been mostly a held bend, but instead it was bent and released very quickly then sustained without a bend).

Anyway, what do you think of Zestiria? I'm not super far along, but I will say that I really like the music in the Trial of Fire.

I always fuck up somewhere in this song. Different place every time.   Tiny increase in accuracy today.

My hand get so damn tired after playing this.  Cant play it 2 times in a row unless i figure out a way to relax while playing as fast as i can.

Put a bit of time in on The Duellists on guitar. Here are the results:

Rhythm:

http://i.imgur.com/ivHAYKc.jpgI'm really bad at the first melodic bit. Especially when it's palm muted. My fretting hand and picking hand just do not want to coordinate at that speed (though they do just fine up to about 93% speed at the moment). Other than that, it's pretty easy.

Lead:

http://i.imgur.com/tQ2JJ7R.jpgI find the three note patterns in the first melodic bit easier on lead, but the 6-note pattern I find harder (because of itsy-bitsy frets). I also suck at the chorus (lose track of where my pick is a lot), but I should overcome that with more practice on that. The solo isn't overwhelming when played in pieces (though there are definitely some parts well beyond my ability - mostly the post-arpeggio bits of the second solo), but putting it all together isn't easy. Once I feel I have the hang of various parts of the solos down (reasonably well) I should probably practice linking together multiple sections before I do score attack runs.

Also, based on my playthrough and time in RR, I might change a few more things. The one-note section at the end of the first solo is silly (I'd probably move the start of the section to the descending line before it). One of the descending lines in the first solo could probably be played in an easier fashion that doesn't skip across the fretboard quite as much. One of the bends in the second solo would make more sense on another string (orange, 6th fret -> blue, 11th fret). I think that was about the extent of things that I want to change (other than that I find hitting the bends on the e string to be really hard). I think that was about all that I noticed being weird.

Anything anyone else would want changed? Sectioning? Tone volumes?

@albatross213I don`t know how for other, but for me,the  guitar barely hear, especially tone on riffs. I played with feels like i play only for score, and not bothered by my terrible sounds. :)

(p.s. Anycase it is not my the cup of tea, very hard, much more above my skill. )

This one more for me :) Update exercise, riched 100%:

no monsieur, french is strictly forbidden

doesn't matter which speech, mainthing is you have fun and good challenge. I also think a bit harder would be a better one for you.

But it's up to you, play what you like and have fun.

So welcome to the championchip

Anyway, what do you think of Zestiria? I'm not super far along, but I will say that I really like the music in the Trial of Fire.

You're further than me, and I've put fifteen hours in! I'm a big fan of Tales games, and this one is a nice surprise in a lot of ways. The combat system is even better than usual (which is saying something) and the game looks/sounds beautiful. So many guitar solos on the soundtrack! I'm also impressed with a lot of the new programming touches - having a pristinely done PC port, using your immediate area as the combat arena, conversations not being interrupted by changing areas or even entering combat - just a lot of really smart choices made by their dev team.

I feel though that this is catered to a less hardcore audience than usual. I'm on the hardest difficulty, and one of the monoliths points out that if you play the game right it can be even easier than the other difficulties. It really is! Reduced XP doesn't make the game HARDER, exactly - it just means you have to grind more. I really wish hard mode made enemies hit harder or have extra HP or something. And I don't like how linear the game is. This "follow the beacon on your minimap" trend in games lately bothers me, and it feels extra condescending in a game where the only options for where to go are forwards and backwards.

Overall, it's no Symphonia, but its strengths are so good that I still find it really addicting. It's on par with Vesperia for me.

@@Sargas94 Bienvenue! :D Those >99% scores already level you up to Intermediate! You should try the A Day to Remember song if your strings don't mind being in D drop C.

@ - I get you on the main guitar tone. It's definitely a bit on the quiet side. I'll tweak the guitar tone volumes a bit (and probably decrease the bass volume a little - I think I went a little overboard in my war against inaudible bass tones).

Also, since I noticed things getting pretty compressed when playing the first melodic bit on lead, I was thinking of changing something there, too. One idea is that 10-15 is playable, so I could move the 6-note pattern on to one string and play the whole thing anchored at the 10th fret. Another is that I could move things to be based around the e string, but with the same patterns as are currently used. Do either of these sound more appealing than what's currently there?

@@Gamut - Are you sure you're on the highest difficulty? I haven't been playing enough of my battles on hard since I haven't been in a grinding mood too often, but I believe there are two unlockable difficulties which unlock once you've fought enough (~300 or 400) battles on the next highest difficulty. Anyway, the higher difficulties giving less EXP I find somewhat annoying, since I'm torn between trying the bosses and special monsters on a harder difficulty for the challenge vs. fighting them on an easier difficulty and reaping the huge amounts of EXP.

And yeah, I get you on the relative linearity. There have been a few side-dungeons and such, but for the most part there hasn't been much freedom. The open areas are better than Xillia where everything was a box canyon, but there really hasn't been much of interest besides the next destination so far.

About the music, I agree that it's pretty great. Like I said, the fire trial was probably my favorite so far (and I suspect you're not too far from it), and I've heard the other trials also have amongst the best music in the game, so I'm definitely looking forward to those.

Edit: Test version of The Duellists with new tone volumes, other modifications on lead.
