Hi everyone,

Couldn't miss a week with a Maiden song could I? Despite CF having labelled me as a Touring Guitarist (LOL) I guess it's procedure to say that I'm in Beginner class but I really wanted to play this one in the higher class.

Great job @@albatross213! This is a really fun custom!! Thank-you!

@@Gamut - I noticed some note recognition problems there as well, though I think I was getting misses mostly on the blue string (C in D tuning).

Also, I noticed some of the notes in the arpeggios don't correspond to the arpeggio fingering given. This is a small nuisance in the lead (where I think it's only a few notes), but in rhythm it's kind of bewildering when you first notice it. On rhythm it's the C5 arpeggios, that have both an orange 2 becoming an orange 3 and a yellow 3 that's not in the arpeggio. On lead it's the second Csus2 (just after the BMajb5), where it switches from blue 12 to blue 11 for a short time. @@Brooklyn_Sounds, could you take a look at it? I could provide screenshots if it would help.

Edit: While I'm giving advice on the custom, two more things.

1) The chord that's played as orange 6 green 10 (was it G3? I forget) towards the end could more easily be played as blue 11 green 10. It requires little shifting and also (nearly) fits into the hand position you already have from playing the arpeggio.

2) The thing that's played in the intro, just after the chorus, and also at the end of the song. Every time except at the end of the song it's played with slides and not hopos, though the latter feels more natural (and I'm not sure how much difference there is between a one fret slide and a hopo)

Double edit:

Not sure if they were actually note recognition issues, or I just sucked.

Was quite keen to hear more Ghost after we played Cirice a few weeks back, however I didn't like this song at all on first listen, but it's a blast to play and it's grown on me quite a bit !

Seems like @@albatross213 has quite an advantage this week in the MC bass class, I'll have to practice extra hard to catch up !

Progress so far:

Edit: Forget about this one

My second go:

…because I'd be quite embarrassed to post my first. That little go on guitar, yesterday, has done me no good at all.

@ - You're not taking the lead that easily...

http://i.imgur.com/F8rjeZz.jpg

Also tried out the Ghost rhythm:

http://i.imgur.com/2ULR0aT.jpg

Boring summary is that the intro and verse riffs are easier than on lead, while the chorus is harder (and I'm less familiar with it). The "arpeggios" in the chorus still mess me up, but not so much because of arpeggio notation, but because of the picking patterns. On lead, it's simple and repetitive, but here it varies more which is a further challenge to my picking hand (which is still, and probably will remain for quite a while, the weakest link in my guitar playing ability).

While I was down in D land, I also tried the intermediate song. Rhythm and lead (after an embarrassing first attempt... then some RR to familiarize myself a bit with the chord changes in the chorus). Still miss more on drop tuned power chords than I probably should.

Edit: Forgot Jump in the Fire, which I played last night after lots of RR on the chorus riff.

I've noticed that after some of the sections of this song with lots of power chords (like the middle section with the solo) that my forearm gets pretty sore and messes me up for other parts of the song. Is this possibly because of poor technique (perhaps pressing too hard, or with the wrong alignment), or could it just be because I'm not used to holding the power chord shape for longer stretches? Speaking of which, I guess this is similar to the problem I had on MC bass when playing Rags and Bones, another song with pretty active riffs and a few long-ish stretches of power chords.

haha - one week off work :D :D :D

Staying at home to fix all the things that need fixing - so based on that explanation also my lame guitar skills should be a big point on the agenda :) :) :)

Ah it´s so lovely calm in the house when everyone else is gone :)

Time to break the silence.

@@albatross213 It's that keeping your hand it that shape for so long is tiring. I still have that issue. Good example is this polish song http://customsforge.com/page/customsforge_rs_2014_cdlc.html/_/pc-enabled-rs-2014-cdlc/maryna-r12245. It is really painful

Intermediate Lead - 87%, 169 streak

I truly hate those dropped power chords... I left that tuning, and most likely I won't be back :)

Advanced Lead - 83%, 120 streak

Ghost. It's not for me.

MasterClass Lead - 91%, 258 streak

Really fun to play. Powerslave may be my favorite Maiden album. Hallowed be thy Name and Flight of the Icarus are my favorite Maiden songs, but overall Powerslave has more cooler songs, at least that's how I feel.

Advanced Rhythm - 94%, 317 streak

@@Rodman that 8-10-12 part? You need to stretch your fingers a little bit more :P

Jump in the Fire Lead - 88%, 317 streak

It's less painful to play the lead

MC Bass:

http://i.imgur.com/BjZcIc4.jpg

This was after a run through LAS (first run was around 85% I think) and some time in RR to figure out the more difficult parts yesterday.  I'm still nowhere near playing that one section toward the middle cleanly at full speed, but I guess it's close enough to not get strikes.  It definitely didn't feel like it when I was playing though.  I feel like this song would be worlds easier with a pick too.  It's not played fingered originally is it?

Unfortunately there's not much here I find particularly interesting to play, so motivation to break it all down in RR for focused practice is kind of low.  The one riff at the end is pretty fun though.  I'll probably just grind out score attack runs and figure out more comfortable hand positions this week.

Once I'm more familiar with it, I might be able to hit 96-ish%, but I probably won't put in enough real practice time to offer any serious competition for the top spots this week.

Well, I'm in the D neighbourhood, might as well play this.

Honestly, I don't like A Day to Remember at all. But this was surprisingly fun to play in spite of the fact that I didn't enjoy what was coming out of my speakers.

Time to go twiddle knobs and flick switches until my Ghost recognition problems are exorcised!

Just had to cut all the gain out of my tone and Rocksmith could find those green strings I was hitting. Didn't sound very rockin', but gotta do whatever it takes to keep up with you lads.
