  1. An important set of points which needs attention. When I download a custom (the rare occasion I play others' customs) I always look for a comment from people who have actually played it, instead of the "Thanks!! Great tune". As a charter I like "Thank You"s, I'm not bashing them at all, but I do agree that they can make a crap custom look awesome. It is worth remembering though, that making customs is very difficult. It's a lot of new information to take in and a lot of new programs to use. There is lots that can go wrong and cause all kinds of errors, so first and foremost ALL charters deserve a pat on the back for effort. One new charters "make" their first custom(s) they just want to get them out because it has been an absolute power of work up to that point. I think that the biggest problem with customs though, is that you actually need to be a pretty competent musician to make good customs. I would consider myself an experienced guitar player and I found it daunting when I first tried to use GP files - so much so that I ended up making songs I knew really well from scratch for my first few customs. There is a tendency to "trust" the GP file, even when it is wrong (even in parts), you need to know the song kinda well enough to know where that G chords goes... Then testing, if you can barely play the song yourself then how the hell can you verify good/bad tabs and a decent sync? There has been much discussion on this subject, a way of knowing in the database which customs are good (technically), which are playable and which are just awful. How it is implemented I don't know... But yeah, thanks for bringing the point up again and hopefully we can discuss enough to find a feasible way forward :) Cause there is some complete tat in the database, and I rarely download customs any more because I have been disappointed so often. Then I think, if I don't try then I may be missing out on some total gems by great new charters...
  2. I think it is because the timing of the GP file you are trying to use is not 4/4. Import it to EoF then manually change the bpm to 2*69=138. I won't try to explain why as I would not get it 100%, its just how EoF handles things which are not 4/4 timing. And remember, GP file tempos are not always very accurate. In fact, about 9 out of 10 GP files needs some kind of bpm adjustment. So the bpm will likely be somewhere between 135 and 145. It's easier to tell when you have notes on screen and play it back, use the hand clap sounds (press C to enable/disable in EoF) and you will see what I mean... Also, unless it is a modern dance track or the band recorded to a very strict click track, then the bpm will change throughout the song, which is why mapping the beat is necessary.
  3. I was thinking of doing one or two. I copied that Now Thats What I Call Christmas triple cd as a favour for someone, so I have it in my iTunes now. From that 3 cd set, I could only find 2 sets of tabs that are anywhere near decent enough for a custom - namely War is Over and I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday. The John Lennon song is rhythm only, so I'll "do an Aludog" :D The Wizzard tabs are not the best (the best of what I could find for any Christmas song) but are do-able. If anyone can find some decent tabs for any Christmas song I will take a look. I will most likely do the John Lennon song in the next few days.
  4. Now if there was a way to force RS to display a chord name, even when there is no chord, at the beginning of these handshape features... I know you can get phantom chord boxes from arpeggios, but I hate arpeggios in RS14 - they are more confusing than they are helpful. A nice highlighted chord section (as per your update) with a chord name at the beginning (with no chord box) would be fkn awesome, and something I think Ubi should introduce to the next iteration of RS. And thanks for your continued support, it means a lot to us man :D
  5. It probably means that you have characters in your lyrics file that Rocksmith does not support, usually non English characters. Download Notepad++ and load up the XML file. Chances are Notepad++ will point out the mistake by highlighting it in a different colour, or use the line number (139) to find it. The mistake is line 139, character 62. You can try to build the custom with no lyrics, if it works then that is definitely the problem. If you are not confident using XML editor (its really easy, I was really surprised how easy Notepad++ makes it) then get your song lyrics from a different website and sync them again.
  6. Don't be such a tight ass. Save yourself tonnes of hassle and go buy Cherub for two chiffin dollars. Do you really want to change the app id every time you download a custom, like 500 times??? I remember that from RS1 custom, it got very annoying very quickly...
  7. Tuning is a pain in the rear end :( I have a spring bridge too, so it is a 5 min job. I tend to "save up" Eb songs, so when I do tune down I have a few songs to create/play. Ordering by tuning is great for this, you always notice a song you haven't played for ages :D I have a few ideas for D standard songs, but they will need to wait. I'll tune to D with my next set of strings, then when I'm done I'll go through Eb and play/create a few songs and then on to E standard. And I agree, I'd love to try Session Mode in Eb - play some blues like Jimi Hendrix, SRV, KWS and a million other blues guitarists...
  8. This is where to get the toolkit http://www.rscustom.net/ and more specifically http://www.rscustom.net/builds Once you have that running use the "Converter" tab, and it's quite straightforward from there. I will warn though, that sometimes conversions don't work. If you get into game and the song doesn't start or something (freezes), the first thing to try is to convert again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Remember not to have multiple copies of songs in your dlc folder. If you make a new version, erase the old version. If you can't get a particular song to work that you really want to play, then leave a message in the song's thread. Generally, charters are helpful people and will try to sort you out. Have fun :D
  9. That looks pretty sweet, I'm gonna try that. Ya know, for the kids. No, I don't wanna play Daniel Powter :D
  10. Yeah this looks like it could be a lot of fun :D
  11. I'd buy a Strat in a heartbeat. No point arguing one way or another, it's just what you prefer. I'd definitely get in a shop and try out some guitars though, don't just buy something online cause it looks nice.
  12. When you made a new build did you... - create new arrangement numbers (this happens when you "point" to the XML while building in the toolkit)? - make a new, unique DLCName in the toolkit? Basically, once it crashes it will always crash until you make the game think its a completely new dlc by giving it (including vocals and all arrangements) new arrangment numbers. I'm not 100% on the DLCName, but I always change it to be sure. Also, you need to fix why it crashed in the first place. Probably messed up sections tbh. I've never seen c0000000000000005 though... so it may well be your music file. Did you make sure you followed all the steps in the Wwise conversion process?
  13. Have you tried this? Place the chord like you have in the pic, but no sustain (for now). Place ghost notes on the highway where you want the individual strings to end then apply linknext to the chord. I presume that would manage the same effect but (possibly) without all the linknext lighting effects. I haven't tried this but I presume (assumption is the mother of all cockups) it would work... Also, you should check out the official Oasis - Supersonic dlc. It's got some mad chord effects in it. In fact, here it is. It's the opposite of what you want, a chord that begins in different places instead of ending in different places, but I've definitely seen what you are looking for in official dlc too. Just can't remember which off the top of the head... http://youtu.be/roLEY4gZP3k Edit - cycling home form work I had a think... my method probably wouldn't work as EoF does not export ghost notes, so the XML would likely say to link the chord to the next note i.e. the next chord or whatever. It may look correct in EoF, but it won't export correctly. Some investigation needed, where's my screwdriver??? :D
  14. I actually quite like the prompts. It's a safeguard against pressing Ctrl+S instead of Shift+S when making sections. Not that it stops the save, it just lets you know it happened. I like to go through a process when I save (nowadays I usually resnap all arrangements for example) and there are so many potential problems that when I hit save in EoF I know that I am happy with the project and that I "meant" to save. Sometimes it's also very handy to load up a project, mess about (experiment) then come out without saving. I know that if I have seen no prompts then I have not saved accidentally. I also use the prompts to in a constructive manner to add phrases once I've added sections (I know I can do this manually but it's just the way I've gotten used to is to let EoF tell me I need to add phrases and add them then) and also to indicate default tones in arrangements with tone changes. I know this is all personal to me and I am quite happy to go with the majority. I just didn't want to say "I like the prompts" then offer no argument as to why :D
  15. I just have to say... that's some avatar Lukey2. Well done on that one :D
  16. All RS1 dlc is wrapped up in one large file in the DLC folder (can't remember what its called), they are not separate .psarc files like RS14 dlc. Also, just drop $5 on RS12 in the Black Friday Sales on Steam and be done with it :D
  17. I can't see how your first pic relates to the second. In the second pic (the one of the actual note highway) there is a G3 bend with no sustain. If I remember correctly, there is an option in DDC to remove sustains (a tick box). Maybe try again without telling it to remove sustains?
  18. Set the locations you want as favourites in Windows Explorer, then you only need to do one click to find the locations you require when using the toolkit. That's what I do anyway. I also have the Wwise directory (to find my .wems) and the Remote (where to find your saved tones in your RS folder) saved as favourites. Saves a lot of time :D
  19. You cannot make the pull-off triangle on the pre bend note, no. Also, you cannot accent a pre bend (the extra highlight box around the note), it also appears under the note and looks stupid. You need to decide whether you want pre bend or pull off, you cannot have both. Sorry... I would be inclined to leave the pre bend and delete the pull off. Or... you could use a pull off 1 fret up then slide it down. Would give a similar audible effect when playing.
  20. It's a complete and utter time eater doing longer customs, and testing is a nightmare for various reasons. Unless you have all original EoF files you are going to struggle to make the charts look nice. Unlocking customs and using the XMLs is a far cry from ideal. I doubt that there are many people on here who could finish playing the entire album. Dark Side has a lot of slow bits and "breaks", this is full on guitar all the way through. It'll get a lot of downloads but I suspect not that many complete plays. Stop being so bloody negative Plum!!! It's your time... :D
  21. Couple of issues... Step 4 - Rocksmith import does not import any tech notes or link nexts, so if it's a complex chart it will change dramatically and have artifacts all over it, unless you manually input all tech notes (complex bends) and link nexts again. I agree that DD makes a dog's dinner of the EoF project, so that should definitely come out before going near EoF. Even customs with no DD are hard to find in EoF... until you look in the "0" tab and not the "Amazing" tab. The other thing to consider is that the purpose of the question is to add sections/phrases. This will require the changing of arrangement numbers or Rocksmith will lock up when you try to play the new custom. When you mess with sections/phrases you need to make Rocksmith think it's a completely different song, or it will get confused and lock up after tuning. I suppose this will automatically happen if you are directing the toolkit to new versions of XMLs, but it is worth bearing in mind that if you crash after adding sections/phrase, it is worth building again while changing the DLC Name field and pull ALL (including vocals) arrangments into the toolkit again before hitting Generate. Overall, a plethora of pitfalls. Have fun :D
  22. No it's not. It was hours of joy playing it. Thanks for the great CDLC man! However I will also get the official Jimi pack. I was only joking, but thanks for reminding me that others enjoy it too :D I was thinking this morning... let next gen console owners have the Jimi for free, they can't exactly play customs can they??? They need something to play :D
  23. Booooo! Hours of work on Red House down the toilet :( It's about time there was Jimi dlc anyway, it is a flippin guitar game after all :D The pro charts will be gorgeous. Think I'll time some live Jimi stuff for simultaneous release...
