  4. Thanks! It's great to have a definitive version of a classic track! P.S. I think I gave it the 1,000th download ;). Do I win a prize? P.P.S. I did some RR and was going to run yesterday, but I felt like things were running a little bit fast for some reason, and... I timed the song including the leading silence through the end when it switched out of the song and it was 4:24, not 4:30 as stated in the CDLC. So hopefully my computer decides to run it at the appropriate speed tonight or tomorrow morning, because that few percent makes it a lot harder. I've got the bass part under the solo pretty much down now, though some of the transitions are still a bit iffy and might lead me to miss a couple of notes. And some parts of the verses are tricky, too (and sometimes I screw up the intro. That I can always just restart, though).

  5. I've found why sometimes chords aren't recognized. In the part where there are 3 chords -> 2 chords with a small gap, if you are sliding between them even if you are sliding (not hard touching strings) extremly fast, it at some moment thinks you have missed all the chord by 1 fret, I'm now moving hand without touching strings (sometimes it sounds like half-frethand muted chords, but in that case Rocksmith isn't so strict). Also I'm playing this three and two chords with downpicking. http://i72.fastpic.ru/big/2015/0725/f5/e48dcbd58ee6511c78395b423d8e43f5.png Info: And 99.43 is 3 mistakes, 99.81 is one mistake, so we have a bunch of players with almost perfect result :)

  7. back to cdlc rating Anthem Lead: the tab (7) is not bad but any issues to point out. Like @@then3verend and @@Latsch already said this slide after intro... needs another way, because the way it's tabbed any misses are sure, always. Then I saw any notes (over the whole song) that needs to be early notes, but they're always on the beats which gives another feeling of the song. Then in the solo is at least one phrase which should be corrected. I didn't check the shred part there, this would be too much. the sync (9) seems to be pretty good, the 9 is caused by the early notes that are not early in the custom. the tones (9) are pretty suitable here @@bernixix for the solo section I can figure out how it should be if you still want to fix it. It would bring one more point for the tab, the slide also one more point if you find a good way.

  9. @ Advanced Bassists whom are fortunate enough to play Tool you gonna have to bump your gain to ~7-10 and play with a pick. Chords take a lot of noise to detect(from me anyways), I actually never had trouble with the chords at the end either :/ the middle chords always brought up pain and misery

  11. (ugh, I gotta re-type this beast, welp, heres the abridged version) These reflect my views based on the 3.0 version of Anthem, I am hereby too lazy to review V4.0 (LEAD) TAB: 9.5 if the one slide gets fixed then this turns into a 10 Sync: 10 didnt have a problem with missing a note, and not at a skill to do a true sync test with the whole song Tone: 10 timing was fixed between the clean and distorted tone, solo tone sounded great, nothing too loud or quiet on my end. Difficulty 8 believe it or not I didnt think this was MC difficulty, the intro is easily repeatable and the solo isn't blisteringly painful. However, it does bring enough challenge to the table this week to satiate us MC players, but I expect more next week (BASS) TAB 10 on my test of the tab (playthrough 4) I didnt hear anything wrong. If there is anything wrong, then you have to tell Geddy Lee he is wrong.... Sync 9 On my sync tests, I did feel like the notes were about 10 ms early, which would have made me need to compensate if I needed to do a run for score. Other than that, good stuff Tone 10: I liked this tone, it felt great for the song, and if a need a 70s bass tone for a cdlc......ima remember this tone Difficulty 9 After a nice week off with Death Angel, the difficulty of Bass returns. When you cant get a score off in MC, you know you;ve done good Feel free to agree or disagree with these ratings, this was my experience with the cdlc. This is definitely one I'll come back to again in the future and play(Prolly back to back with The Wicker Man). I placed them in the cdlc sheet signed as (n3v) Great choice @@Choaralaone

  14. To be exact, this should be a plek-on-string slide (i dont know what its called, but i hope you know what i mean) on the D-String, but i dont think you can tab that in RS. cheers
    2 points
  15. that may have several causes. The "chord" is only octaved notes on 3 strings, D, D and D, so it doesn't matter if the D string is muted  make sure to strum all 4 strings to hit all octaves. Then we have drop D tuning, so our E (D) string is fairly baggy. You can try to strum the strings near the bridge so the don't oscillate too much and won't pushed that easy out of tune. Maybe palm muted playing for a same effect... I tried a bit this part with playing at brige and hitting all 4 strings on all up and dowmnstrokes... with always getting about 15-20 misses, last short try with only 5 at the whole section As I finished my last custom I noticed there also note recognition is a bit beasty at the bass chords, just powerchords with 3 strings in E standard, but nowhere near bad as here. This may be a general problem with basses and chords.

  16. Right. I'm getting really pissed off with this song now. Tool - bass. I can't get any of the chords at the end of the song to register. I can get (some of ;) ) the chords in the middle of the song to register. But the ones at the end - they won't even register in RR at slow speed. What's going on?

  17. Hi all, So despite having read music theory books and thoroughly appreciated them I found that there were three things that bothered me not knowing about and I grow tired of ignorance. :) So I've gone ahead and explored the following: 1. CAGED System 2. Circle of Fifths and Fourths 3. Modes One problem I have with reading theory is that once I read a music theory lesson I don't make much use of it as I am playing guitar because the info is not at my fingertips. I am a fan of 1 double-sided page crib sheets that contain all the condensed details of the theory and having it on my music stand for use on-the-fly between playing Rocksmith songs. I also like to make my crib sheets such that it can be read from beginning to end like a detailed lesson. The CAGED system and Circle of Fifths/Fourths crib sheets are more casual hand-written notes however the Modes crib sheet is a ode to nerds as it is a very detailed yet very demystifying lesson. My goal is not just to summarize but to organize the mind with ALL the info found in these references but all viewable at a glance. I believe you'll get the most out of these crib sheets if you actually view/read the references I link to since a crib sheet makes the most sense to the reader when he/she already understands the info contained in it. The references linked take you through the material at a more leisurely pace whereas the crib sheet is all business and intense. One day when I have time I'll type up the hand-written crib sheets, so thanks for tolerating my lefty penmanship. DISCLAIMER: All of the following are merely representations of the content in the links I provide and, though logical, have not yet been fully verified by myself since I am new learning this. This assumes the Reference links are providing correct content. CRIB SHEET 1 - CAGED SYSTEM References: Pentatonic Minor Scale Pentatonic Minor 5 patterns CAGED System Just to understand how to derive what we see in the Rocksmith Guitarcade game, Scale Racers, here is my derivation of the 5 patterns of a the A Minor Penatatonic scale with annotations showing positions within the framework of the CAGED system. http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/A%20Pentatonic%20Minor/IMG_1563_zpsru6lbo26.jpg http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/A%20Pentatonic%20Minor/IMG_1562_zpszrtzjkeg.jpg Note how the image below shows the CAGED system (or rather EDCAG) chord shapes which I label. http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/A%20Pentatonic%20Minor/IMG_1564_zpssw41tzua.jpg Pattern 1 -> contains a G-shape amidst all the scales notes Pattern 2 -> contains a E-shape amidst all the scales notes Pattern 3 -> contains a D-shape amidst all the scales notes Pattern 4 -> contains a C-shape amidst all the scales notes Pattern 5 -> contains a A-shape amidst all the scales notes However Pattern 1 is actually called the E-shape, Pattern 2 the D-shape, Pattern 3 the C-shape, Pattern 4 the A-shape and Pattern 5 the G-shape. So what are we missing here? In short: The names of the patterns annotated on the above image are correct. What was missing was that E-shape for a Minor scale such as the Minor Penatonic scale is actually referring to the Eminor-chord-shape. My earlier expectation was that I thought they were referring to EMAJOR-chord-shapes. Substantiation: Hmm, very interesting that despite the Major chord shapes apparent in the Pentanic Minor patterns, that within those same patterns ALSO exist Minor chord shapes. Below, I've updated my drawing of the patterns shown above to add SQUARES around notes that belong to MINOR chord shapes. So I changed my labels to say Pattern 1: Em-Shape instead of Pattern 1: E-Shape. http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/A%20Pentatonic%20Minor/Deriving%20A%20Pentatonic%20Minor%20-%205%20patterns%20-%20skewed%20CAGED%20patterns%20I%20noticed%20-%20REVISED%20WITH%20MINOR%20SHAPES_zpsavtwgymx.jpg References: 1. Googling Minor Pentatonic CAGED system was my first step. It confirmed that CAGED system applies not only to MAJOR scales but also MINOR, PENTATONIC MAJOR, PENTATONIC MINOR scales, and I guess all scales too. So I realized that the chord shapes for a minor scale are minor chord shapes!! 2. I then verified correctness and landed upon the confirmation in a very nice tutorial. 3. I also landed upon a nice diagram on this Rockprodigy website This image from that Rockprodigy website has a great summary diagram to show derivation of chord shape names for the Minor Pentatonic. http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/A%20Pentatonic%20Minor/Minor%20scales%20summary%20Rockprodigy.com_zpsubysoeey.png Salient Features of this image: 1. Bottom row of chord boxes shows Natural Minor scales in all 5 patterns, in which red dots show notes that disappear from the Natural Minor when moving to the Minor Pentatonic scale. That is because, Pentatonic Minor formula relative to the Major scale is: 1 b3 4 5 b7 1, or relative to the Natural Minor scale is 1 3 4 5 7 1 which shows that the 2nd and 6th degree notes of the Natural Minor scale don't appear in the Pentatonic minor scale. 2. The 2nd row of chord boxes show the Pentatonic Minor scales in all 5 CAGED patterns and dotted lines show the actual Minor chord shapes. The red dots in those 2nd row boxes, when removed, leave behind the notes of the Minor chord shown in the first row. 3. So similar to the MAJOR scale the Pentatonic Minor uses the same names and retains the name CAGED which actually should be called EDCAG but CAGED is more memorable.: Pattern 1 - E shape Pattern 2 - D shape Pattern 3 - C shape Pattern 4 - A shape Pattern 5 - G shape (well a permutation of the standard chord shape is shown in the image). 4. Major pentatonic scale formula relative to the Major scale is 1 2 3 5 6 1 (Take away 4th and 7th note from Major scale, or can be seen as adding a 2nd and 6th note from the typically 1-3-5 MAJOR triad) 5. Point 4 and the above points show that Pentatonic Major and Pentatonic Minor scales are simply traditional MAJOR and Minor scales with notes omitted. 6. In passing I read and only briefly confirmed with spot-checks a very important point: that Minor and Major scales have the same patterns. Here are 2 examples out of 10 that apply to MAJOR, Minor, MAJOR Pentatonic and Minor Pentatonic: Example 1: MAJOR D shape pattern is identical to the Minor C shape pattern except with different root notes. Example 2: PENTATONIC MAJOR D shape is identical to the Pentatonic Minor C shape pattern except with different root notes. So memorizing a minor shape implies memorizing a MAJOR shape. Cool! You may want to confirm point 6 above by inspecting the same image as above but summarizing the MAJOR scales. http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/A%20Pentatonic%20Minor/MAJOR%20scales%20summary%20Rockprodigy.com_zpsaighvsoq.png My favorite part of learning is that "Eureka!" moment. Nerd bliss! She posted it on her web site and she introduces and explains it in this YouTube video. Here is a link to her PDF of the image below. This circle below is identical to the above but instead of having to look at 9 o'clock for the relative minor, she now added relative minors (minor scales that have the same key signature (same sharps and flats on the musical staff) as their related MAJORS) on the inner circle and explains it a bit in the linked Youtube video. For example: the relative minor of the C MAJOR scale is the A minor scale (who both share notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B with no sharps or flats). Note: whereas the MAJOR scale has equation T-T-S-T-T-T-S, the natural minor has the equation T-S-T-T-S-T-T. Also on the outside of the circle she added the individual notes of the MAJOR chord, ex: C MAJ contains notes G, C,E; A chord contains A, C#, E. http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/Circle%20of%205ths%20and%204ths/KarenRamirez-NewChordCircleJuly2015_zps3isrfwii.png CRIB SHEET 3 - MODES Reference to 16 part-lesson http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/Modes%20Crib%20sheet/Modes%20Crib%20Sheet%20Page%201%20Image%2020July2015Berneer_zps6rf7rbek.png http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad41/Berneer/CustomRockStuff/Modes%20Crib%20sheet/Modes%20Crib%20Sheet%20Page%202%20Image%2020July2015Berneer_zpsycszcolt.png I am sure there is more information out there and that I could have done things differently but this suits me as a solid introduction and I thought I'd share. Now I think I can understand Rocksmith Session Mode much better! Woo!!! Here is a PDF version of the images above (if you print this please do so in legal and landscape settings, and preferably print in colour and double-sided for best effect.) In case you wish to make changes tailored to your taste or wish to inform me of any mistakes or improvements, here is a Word 2010 version. I suspect the PDF and Word versions will offer you better resolution that the images posted. Spent many hours learning this reading things over and over again until it sank in. I hope this helps you learn a bit faster and that like me who always felt like, "yeah, fine so solos are scales", that this now gives you the same satisfaction I got in dymystifying how solos work. So cool this stuff!!! Enjoy.... is this a new record length post for Berneer... :)

  19. I started playing guitar 2 years ago, it was some old acoustic that were played by 3 or more people long ago, everyone of them get boried. I thought I will stop playing that dull thing (it has a plenty of deffects, buzzing and other), you know that it is popular to play it only on first 5 frets with fingerpicking and 3 chords. But that soviet made guitar has pickup like this installed: http://media.music123.com/is/image/MMGS7/ACS-Acoustic-Active-Soundhole-Pickup-System/580353000000000-00-750x750.jpg That was what I want, and I want to play metal like things. And I always try to make a computer to help my learning, and I found a Rocksmith. After half of year I have bought new guitar, and started feeling like a god, my speed increased twice (old guitar has centimeter gaps between strings and frets). But there are the things rocksmith can't teach on my opinion: 1. memorize easy stuff that you usually read from display, memorize songs entirely and play them without rocksmith and backing track 2. play while somebody whatching (I get really nervous), 3. hear yourself - you can see how some rocksmith players try to get more points, but it often doesn't mean play better /me remember how I'm playing raining blood by slayer first time and scored a good 80-90 (didnt tocuh guiatr at solo) 4. Sometimes playing along a backing track, you are missing a rhytm (there is no visual hits) 5. Somebody tells you: "If you are learning so much, show something" and you realize you can't show something without rocksmith :))

  25. @@albatross213 If you wanted to brighten up a tone definitely adding treble and mid and reducing bass will help. Turning up "presence", if the amp has it, can sharpen it up. Or some amps just have a duller sound than others. Sometimes changing mic position on the speaker cab can help; "dynamic cone" give you the brightest sound. If it's a clean electric, I'll usually start with the Marshall Plexi amp, turn down 'loudness 1' and turn up 'loudness 2'. If it's an older sound but clear, like Beatles or Stones, you can mess around with mic position to get an 'older' sound to it. If I come across something today that might work, I'll let you know. Went to bed with a little toothache, woke up with half my face puffed up. Fun.

  33. Alright, I fixed the sectioning in the above songs in case anyone saw them before my most recent edit. Now for the real reason for this post: @@manchot66 - I played Mother Mary on bass and it played quite well! The first time that (chorus?) riff showed up it threw me for a bit of a loop. Then it evolved and threw me for a loop again! Second time through when I was prepared for it went quite a bit better. I didn't spot check the sync in RR and didn't score attack (which gives more timing information than Learn a Song), so I can't say I really delved into the sync, but it seemed like a good sync from what I could tell (and from what I'd expect from you). Bass tone and volume was good. I'd maybe touch the volume up a hair (.5 dB), but wouldn't really worry about it. The one "odd" thing I noticed was that the last time there's the 8\3 slide on the A it's unpitched, while the rest of the time it was pitched. Was this intentional?

  34. Now I know why we got along famously from the beginning.... :) I find that I get most of my reading (and You Tube education) on my phone or tablet while in dead times during the day, whether I'm in line somewhere, waiting for a doctor's appointment, bathroom ...... and to single-mindedly devour all I could get my eyes upon ... translates into vast knowledge acquisition. Then night time is for Rocksmith. :) Hi frippchen, Thanks. I have this nasty personality trait that I like to gobble up all information before I put it into practice.... whereas I'd probably be better at playing guitar had I learned theory in bite size chunks and put it into practice. Your advice seems like great advice to me. This crib sheet idea is me ensuring I capture all the things to experiment with instead of leaving them to be forgotten on a web site. Now I plan on experimenting with everything written on on the crib sheets. I know Rocksmith is good for this with Session mode, but I just bought a Boss RC-3 Loop Station pedal to create the backing tracks (specifically chords) upon which I'll solo over to experiment with the modes. Cheers guys! By the way, checking out Rocksmith Session Mode last night I loaded up some G Mixolydian and it seems Rocksmith has the Solid Gems representing what the crib sheet calls "home notes" (aka notes to land on) and empty gems form the rest of the mode scale (notes to, perhaps cautiously, pass through). But I think RS uses a different approach than the CAGED system to define patterns (scale positions).... perhaps the 3 notes per system convention .... I need to further investigate this.

  45. Though, in Master Mode, you still see hand position changes, so that's a little help. I think I've seen a video of someone playing a solo, after learning scales in Rocksmith :P We're probably way too humble :)

  46. Well, the only way to fairly measure the playing is in Score Attack, just like the weekly challenge. All that needs to be added is the use of Master Mode to hide the notes on the note highway. Videos, while a bonus, wouldn't be required.

  47. Figured I'd add my story here. My brother, who's three years older than me, started playing guitar in middle school and taking it more seriously in high school. We share a similar taste in music and eventually thought it would be fun to try to play things together, so I started playing when I was... I don't know exactly, probably 12 or so. I kept up playing through my graduation from high school, but never joined any bands or anything, and stopped when I got to college. Then I didn't really play at all through college, or the first few years of grad school. I had lent my brother my bass in the meantime, and sometime last year I went about taking it back, and picking my amp up from my parents, though I still didn't play a ton. This winter was pretty terrible in the northeast USA, so since I couldn't spend as much time outside indulging in my other hobbies I started playing the bass again more regularly. I started looking into a new bass to get, and ended up deciding on a 6-string (another thought was a fretless, but that would probably have been a disaster with my fretting hand and ear. It might have also served to make me much better on those skills, but I figured in the short term it was more likely to discourage me from playing rather than encourage me. I'll probably still try out a fretless at some point in the future). Once I'd started playing more regularly and getting back into bass "culture" a bit more, I heard about Rocksmith, and started learning about it, and thought it would be a great way to encourage still more playing, and also probably encourage more focused practice and a more diverse set of things I'd try to learn. While researching I eventually heard about CDLC and found this place and have been here ever since. Thanks for creating such a welcoming community that unites players from all over the world!

  50. I was doing this with Rocksmith to begin with as well - I'd see the notes come up and if it looked too complicated, I'd quit the song immediately. I think the competition helps with that - I'm more likely to work my way through a whole song in the Championship, even if I do only get 70-80%.
