Hi guys,

First time here and just reading the rules.  Need to check something.

So I scored > 99.5% on INT BASS so next week I have to play ADV class?

Just checking if that's based upon a one week run as opposed to an average or something?

Anything else I should know that first timers get wrong?

Cheers!

Probably kind of late in the week for this to be useful, but last night I made an exercise to practice the sweep picking in Empyreal (DL link) to get you up to the speed where riff repeater will actually be of some use in the song itself. I think I had some mistakes that I'll try to go back and fix (a few missing hopos and taps), but it should be relatively easy to figure out where those things are missing (for the first arpeggio, all notes 13th fret and above are tapped. For the second, all notes 15th fret and above are tapped).

It's all at 90 bpm (I think about half that of Empyreal). It starts out with quarter notes (so ~1/8th actual song speed, and can be made slower with RR), then progresses to eights, then 16ths. All speeds have at least 5 sections, one for each arpeggio, then one for each tapping patter. The eighth and 16th speeds also have the full lick repeated twice (the longer sections).

Obviously, at slow speeds you should practice the techniques you'll be using at faster speeds. Look up videos or articles for more on the techniques you should be using for sweep picking.

The backing track is just a boring click track. Sorry for being lazy.

Have fun!

The Ballad of Hollywood Jack and Rage Kage at lead - 93%, 87 streak

I nailed that transition from G to D (or vice versa) on other songs, so that's really great to see it work. I had a run in SA, but I kept on failing on C chords (that's probably the worst open chord), sad about that, and I had no time (or right hand power) to try it again.

Adv rhythm: Doesn't move me up in the actual rankings, but I feel like I can do a better job on the chords than I did here. Was kind of shit at them on this run. Might not have been keeping my index flat enough while playing the inverted power chords after the intro.

MC Lead: Removed DD so I could score attack and...

So, being able to play sweep picking things reasonably well at ~45% speed doesn't really help you play them at full speed. At all. Still feel like the level of skill needed to do a reasonable approximation of what's in this song is way beyond me. Then again, I've been practicing sweep picking for this for all of under 24 hours so far.

I think most of my improvement here was doing the chords and fast rhythm stuff a bit better. Maybe knowing some of the notes that are played in the sweep picking arpeggios other than those on the E string helped?

Anyway, now I'll try to put in some near-final prep for Beastly, which I'll try to record tomorrow morning. I'll try using the webcam overlay in Bandicam so you can see me (or at least the bass) while I'm playing.

A little better, but not enough to alter the placings. I tried 5 or so times after this but keep getting random misses. Could be operator error though.....

Happy birthday Voltaire and Goldie Hawn... Oh and @@franfit ;) I couldn't find any famous folk I recognised, it seems collagen is really popular with young celebs these days, thus making it really difficult to tell if I would recognise them even without! Who cares about famous people anyways? When we are surrounded by future legends such as yourself, am I right?! Have a great day! :)

P.S. Your cover photo is awesome! :D

Challenging week. The MC Bass this week was really a 10 - that bass player is a magician. I can understand the joy in the video when they pull off this groove. The pianist is ecstatic!

Tenacious D was fun, but I have no problem with playing the chords clear and distinct, but I suck at tempo and also struggle with recognition. First and last play through was not different in any way (and I played it quite some times).

Another personal goal was passed this week - I love the joy and challenge Rocksmith gives me (this competition is included in this praise).

Problems with Rocksmith registering? Don't bother - remember the wise words of Yngwie Malmsteen:

Unexpectedly crazy week for me, barely had time to even look at my guitar, heck most of the time I wasn't even in the same country as my guitar !

Never the less I did manage to eek out some scores for the week.

Hair of the Dog is such a classic I had to learn it !
