  1. Hey everyone!Sorry for the lack of updates, we've been working hard behind the scenes to make everything work. Today is officially 14 days (two weeks) since CustomsForge has launched. Here are some stats: We have 8,957 membersA total of 7,330 posts. Our total users online ever: 438 (YESTERDAY!) We have a database of over 1,000 CDLC's. The community has donated over $1,000 Thank you everyone for pulling together and making this community what it is. NEW updates to notice: You can now add your bass & guitar in your user profile Search is now local, and is updated immediately without delay. The website is faster and stable (that unfortunately cut some dev time out, as we had to work on that fulltime) We have a new tracker for issues: http://customsforge.com/tracker/ Steam profile. You profile now has a steam view so people can add you / track your games: http://customsforge.com/user/1-unleashed2k/ Here are some projects we are currently working on: Search Settings You will be able to set your own custom settings for search that will save with your username. Request System We're working on a new system for requests, unfortunately there is no ETA for this project yet. Dark themed skin I'm actually looking into some paid options to have the main theme reskinned black, ETA: This monthWe are working on a lot more behind the scenes but we can't offer complete details yet, still a lot of things in motion.Thank you once again for your support and we're working hard on resolving any issues with the website. EDIT:I've decided to remove the TEMP DLC (THE OLD AREA, NOT THE NEW ONE) area this friday. Please read more about it here: http://customsforge.com/topic/1883-temp-dlc-area-removal/

  3. It's hard to express gratitude repetitively without sounding ingenuous. So, be that as it may, I appreciate all your work and your efforts to perpetuate the best of what Smithy's Anvil was when I first encountered it, and express my support and hopes for a long, happy future here. Even though this has NOTHING to do with this site, I wanted to offer my worthless observations of the internet: You cannot make everyone happy, no matter how hard you try.If you try to make everyone happy, you only succeed in pissing everyone off.You cannot have a picnic without ants and flies. If you respond to a troll or flamer's post, then you have given them the one thing their mother wouldn't - attention. It's easier to break a window than build a house. If you build it, someone will find fault in it.If you have something people want, it is priceless, especially when it's free.Your opinion, along with a nickel, is worth a little less than two cents! Keep on keeping on!

  5. I use the guts of dragons i slay to create bass strings that sound deeper than the halls of Valhalla and the hair of fair maidens i have shagged for my electric guitar strings (altho so far i can only manage 1 single string for a ukulele , i need to get more fit). But other than that Ernie Ball ;).

  7. OK, so after watching the video tutorial on making CLDC's made by @@SkepticSquid here: http://customsforge.com/topic/841-how-to-make-cdlc-full-in-depth-tut-completed/ some of us still have difficulties so I thought that a non-video tutorial with screenshots and text instead might also be helpful, let's start: I've divided everything into 6 sections, some of them are currently in progress, but in the end you will be able to make your own customs for Rocksmith 2014. Here's the basic table of contents: PrepairingWorkload directoryGetting tools and setting them upGetting the resources - tabs, album artActual workWorking with EoFWorking with WWiseWorking with Custom Song Creator Toolkit for RocksmithSummary and thanksSo, enjoy, comment and have fun. And watch that first :D https://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXvCkcGyJC8 P.S. I'm eager to help each one of you but in order to do so we must be using the same environment, so follow every step from this tutorial exactly, because this is how my environment is currently set up. P.P.S. If you like my work, go ahead and SMASH THAT THANKS BUTTON!

  8. Wasn't too sure where to post these but here is as good a place as any. The first video here is a handy way to learn how to play your scales up and down the neck by combining the different boxes of each Pentatonic position to make one big box, or scale map: This second one is how to combine the Minor and Major Pentatonic Scales into one box shape for each position, and of course you can (and should!) combine this with the scale mapping idea above: Not too sure what you'd call the scale...Pentatonic Mijor perhaps..? Or maybe there's a proper name for it lol    Please feel free to add more to this thread that you've found useful.

I teach English to High School-age students here in Thailand, and I like to do a few music listening exercises every year. One of the songs that I taught in my classes was Zombie by the Cranberries (common Karaoke song in Thailand). Then recently, as a treat for the end of the school term I brought in my PC with Rocksmith 2014 and took requests for songs to play along with on my bass. I justified doing that for English class because the students could sing along karaoke-style; and I got a good fun class out of it. However, I had a lot of students ask me to play Zombie since they remembered studying it earlier in the year, and it wasn't available as a custom song. So, I decided to make that my first project to see how well I could figure out the whole custom-making thing. I play bass -- don't have an electric guitar here in Thailand with me -- so I concentrated on doing that chart first. I found a good tab and the bass line is pretty simple so I thought it would be an easy(ish) way to start out. Well, it turned out to be trickier than I imagined. A big part of that is my noob-status I'm sure, but I ran into a few other snags. First, there are quite a few different BPM numbers listed for the song through various sources. That should have been a red flag for me, but I discovered that the song definitely wasn't run through any sort of stabilizing software after being recorded in the studio, so the beat and tempo varies quite a bit with the human drummer / rhythm section. Took me quite a bit of work to sync it all up with all the variation, but I think it is pretty close to being properly in sync now. Second, I had a heck of a time figuring out how to get slides to work and show up properly in the game. The first note in the bass track is a slide from the 12th fret on E down to open, but EOF complains if I try to set the destination fret at 0. So in the meantime, I set it as a slide from 12 to 1. That works for now, but I am sure there is a more elegant/correct way to do that. Third, in my self-testing on early versions I heard a fair bit of dissonance. It made me think that maybe my tab was wrong, but when I play along with my source tab in Guitar Pro it sounds great. Then if I switched from that over to playing along with the recording, and it sounded off. I eventually decided that the studio recording must be in a tuning a bit sharp or flat from standard E, A440. I did some googling and found other people that discovered the same thing, but couldn't find anybody posting what the correct offset should be. So, I fiddled around with my tuner set for a few different offsets to A440, and eventually settled on +5Hz, A445. With that tuning, the dissonance goes away, at least to my non-perfect ear. But anyway, if you have a good ear I'd appreciate thoughts on whether that tuning sounds correct or needs further tweaking. Fourth, I actually got relatively pleased with how the bass part works in-game, and that got me intrigued with putting in lead and rhythm guitar parts too. The tab I use sounds good, but separates the guitar into 3 parts (technically 4 but 2 of those are just for stereo pan). AND, I have been a bass-only guy for so long that my ear for guitar parts is definitely less than stellar. Add in the erratic tempo throughout the song and the long gaps between guitar parts since it is divided up so much, and I have been pretty fully lost in trying to sync up the guitar parts. Also, when I try to get the first notes in sync, it seems to screw up the sync in the bass track that I worked so hard to get set well. Is that because of the opening silence I added? It sure would be nice if I could just fit the imported guitar pro guitar tracks to the beat sync from the bass track, and seems like that it how EOF does/can/should work, but I'm a bit gunshy since my early efforts screwed up the bass track and I had to redo it. And finally, I'd like to add more riff repeated sections/phrases, but that whole system in EOF seems screwy to me. Is there a trick to that process? Minus the guitar tracks and lack of more divided sections/phrases, I think the file linked above works reasonably well. I do think that the tab I used is missing a few strum variations to keep it from being really perfect, but it sounds close to me throughout. And in spite of trying to sync/anchor pretty much every beat to keep up with the erratic tempo, I do notice a few places where I could get it matched better. But anyway, any comments / suggestions / criticism / advice would be welcome. Depending on whether or not I can figure out how to import the guitar parts and get them to use the bass track sync, I may also be happy to get a hand from a more seasoned custom-maker to add on lead and rhythm guitar parts. I can provide my source tab and other files, although maybe it would be just as easy to use the toolkit to unpack that stuff from the psarc file (minus the GP5 tab anyway)? Thanks for any feedback!

  11. This is where I will post links to my works in progress. Thanks for coming to visit my workshop! -ForgeOn Any recommendations for edits, tones, additions, or corrections is not only welcome but very much appreciated! :) Currently In Production Customs: PC: Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing (I Believe In Miracles) - v0.20 More Info: Lead, rhythm, and bass parts are added. The Rhythm part has been checked by me and should be correct. The lead part should be correct as well, if a bit boring; I intend to add an alternative arrangement that combines Lead and Rhythm, once everything else is correct. The bass part is still incorrect. Not Yet Added: Tones, Vocals, Sections/Phrases, Second Rhythm Guitar (The chicka chicka wah guitar, which I do not have a tab for), and an alternate lead arrangement that will be part lead and part rythm (because it's more fun that way!) Tabs Used: Ultimate-Guitar.com , Songsterr.com PC: Daft Punk - Get Lucky (Michael Jackson Edit) - v0.26 More Info: Two guitar parts and two bass parts added. Default bass is 4 string, bonus arrangement is 5 string. Default Rhythm guitar has a much more complete arrangement than I can do by ear; it may not be completely accurate but it should be in tune and on rhythm! The Bonus Arrangement for rhythm guitar only has chord changes (so you can improvise the struming) and should have correct pitch and accurate timing. All parts may have some sections and phrases (possibly inaccurate). Vocals have also been added! They are accurate though I may need to remoce some "+" and "~" signs. Not Yet Added: Tones, Lead guitar (may have to do this by ear), Final Sections/Phrases Tabs Used: Ultimate-Guitar.com , Songsterr.com - transposed up a tone (whole step) Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkCn-iWLiSE EoF Files: Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing (I Believe In Miracles) Daft Punk - Get Lucky (Michael Jackson Edit) Finished There's nothing here. (Yet! :) ) Abandoned There's nothing here. (Hopefully we keep it that way!) 12. A few years back I picked up a guitar magazine with an article by Steve Vai called "Freak Show Excess." It has several pages of intense excersizes covering all manner of guitar playing as well as training tips and insight from Vai himself. They cover a program that Vai believed would help make someone a much better player with practice of his key concepts. It might make an excellent base for a set of guitar training excersizes. I lack the skill and fluidity to play them myself, but if anyone would like them to start a project of their own, I can provide you with them. -k

  17. You should check your computer -- in Rocksmith's options, there's a strobe that lets you check your audio/visual sync. I'd do that first of all. You can also turn off a lot of the 'features' in the Visual Options menu -- a lot of them don't seem to do a lot visually, but they may be slowing down performance. Seems really strange that songs from a group like Metallica would be off... the metalheads around here would have caused a riot over that a long time ago. (Although maybe they didn't notice cause of all the headbangin'?)

  18. Black type on a white background is infinitely more easy to read than white type on a dark background. Might not be an issue for the younger crowd here. But for us ...um...older, wiser types... every little bit helps.

  19. About 1979 - 1982 while in high school I had my own band called Renegade. A few originals with a lot of covers. Played guitar in this band but also played bass for a couple of different friends that had bands. Mostly rock and metal and a few gigs playing for a country band. 1985 - 1988 Played in a couple of bands that never got as far as getting names. One fell apart after months of rehearsals and one gig where half the band got trashed. The downside to trying to have a band made up of friends who hadn't played in a "working" band before. Then went on to form a band called "The Jake Isles Blues Band" which was kind of a rock edged blues band. The name came as a drunken rehearsal when me and the lead guitar player noticed our singer had us doing a lot of old J. Geils Band covers. As the lead player was a little drunk he angrily said we should just call the band Jake Isles or at least that was what it sounded like with the slurring. I worked (didn't seem like work though) in Maine and New Hampshire for several years in this band and recorded some originals with songs kind of all over the place. Played rhythm for a while in this configuration then ended up playing bass most of the time in this band until varying degrees of interest broke us up. At this point I got rid of almost all my gear I think I had 8 electrics (7 solid bodies and 1 hollow body) , 2 basses, and 2 acoustics and just kept 1 acoustic guitar. In 1989 I bought a Jackson bass (so much for getting rid of everything) and mainly just jammed with people occasionally filling in for some friends or playing for a few songs at their gigs if they wanted a hand. This went on for several years. Then about 1995 I got rid of the new gear I had once again accumulated and once again was back to the single acoustic and found my self playing for my brother in law in his gospel band for several years as a bassist with some guitar duties where fingerpicking was needed. What seemed strange to me was the gospel band had more gigs than any other band I had been in with us playing somewhere pretty much every weekend and usually a couple of weekday gigs every other week or so. Since about 1998 I've been bandless and tried to avoid it due to my work schedule and the fact that if I'm in a band I WANT to play live for people. Just playing with some friends is great but the rush from playing in front of an audience is crazy and once you've done it it's hard to resist. So for now; much like steroma posted above; rocksmith is my band. I wish I was as good as the rest of my band!!

  21. An exceptional list of 8 you have there. Not to be morbid, but imagine the talent and knowledge the world loses when these guys pass away...... I know others will take their place, but imagine the talent and guitar knowledge we lost when Hendrix passed way too young and imagine what he COULD have done has he lived another 27 years (at least). You have a bigger Mt Rushmore than most......
