Rocksmith 2014 Championship Week 102

Techniques used in Pump It Up are harder then in Pearl Jam, which is probably faster. So I agree with Monsta here, as I like Pearl Jam as beginner (rating 3).

I find this one a bit tricky and I'm not entirely sure why. I like the song itself and the pace but I think it's because I've been playing a fair few tunes lately that require all four fretting fingers so when it comes to this type of genre the lack of pinky usage makes me feel a bit weird, I'm slowly training it to look less like I'm drinking out of a china teacup when it's not being used in a 1 finger per fret type way but it still sticks out quite rigid as opposed to being a bit more relaxed... I just wish it was as dextrous as the rest but in time I'm sure it'll single handedly (or fingeredly) be able to whack out an arpeggio of beastly proportions :) (I don't use my thumb to fret... yet... but hey, you never know, I might start incorporating that weirdness in there somewhere too)

Ok, because of poor results and overall lack of skill @NoonyDeloony gets downgraded to Advanced. She would be forever remembered as shameful person... and then she'll make another charming video and we'll forget about that.

Missed last week because half of it I was too drunk to speak, and half of it I was too drunk to speak and out of country. Here's my INT bass, I'll try better tomorrow and also fire up lead after I'll get around to changing my strings.

I cant agree with the other about this song being easy.  I am having a hard time making it sound good and i make big mistakes all over the song. (just not at the same play through).

I think i need to play it a few times at 90 or 95% speed to get the muscle memory to really kick in.

I agree with @@MaZtoR, it's easy if you are certain with all those technics and can manage them at the same time:

there are single notes with p.m. in swing feel at a tough speed including HOs and string skipping, at all verses and chorus.

Later there are those funky chords where your fingers need to be well sorted  :)

good idea to practice it at a slow speed, if all those things works well together it isn't very hard any more.

I would rate it as 7-8, because for intermediate too hard, but a good medium advanced level.

Finally back home and a little bummed I missed Tricot last week.  It's probably going to take a bit to knock the rust off after not playing at all the last couple weeks.  A couple runs through Cholly and a quick pass through RR at 80% to get the rhythm down:

Still needs work, but the the bass line is pretty fun to play.  Tab and tones look and sound good to me as well.  I am inclined to agree with @@NoonyDeloony though.  It seems a tad easy for advanced, but the tempo might make it a little tough for intermediate.

I won't level up lead participants on Pump It Up. Unless 100% or way better score then the rest.

Took delivery of my first ever bass guitar today ! Nothing fancy, just a cheap and cheerful short scale p bass from Thomann. Might put a review of it up in the gear section in a day or two if anyone's interested.

Anyway, first bass score :)

A small improvement:

There is something about this that I am finding difficult, even though it seems incredibly easy… My fretting hand starts to ache half way through, and then I just miss a whole load of notes.  Perhaps it might help if I actually listen to the song as I've never heard it before?  It might help me stop playing notes that are not actually there? lol

And I haven't yet decided whether it should be played with a pick or not...

Originally he plays everything with fingers, but with pick this one is more easy.

Hmmm… I find it slightly easier to hit the right strings by using my fingers, but then I'm losing the plucking speed.

of course if you're more familiar with fingers it's probably the best to do so. When I play it with fingers they're getting tired anytime in the later song, and with pleck I'm more accurate and have a better endurance, but I'm used to it.

I had similar achey hand trouble. I think it's the short distance and repetitively fast notes was creating a bit of a RSI effect. 7-9 fret patterns often seem to bother my fret hand but I can usually figure out the comfy sweet spot. Relaxing my fret hand as much as I possibly could and barely touched the frets as I played seemed to work. Loads less tension throughout the song. Hopefully that'll help a li'l' bit :)

Hmmm, my post disappeared, so at the risk of duplication

Pump It Up on bass is at 95%

Cholly on bass is at 94%

I already closed Steam, so no screen shots until later.  Just trust me.
