  1. Just a start... Comping in A Maj on bass - 99% I'll fix that when I get a moment. I played around with this on two weeks ago, so this wasn't my first time through it. Rip It Up on bass 97% by the second run through - I'll move on to something else

  2. So, it turns out masterclass is hard. My first run through in LAS was somewhere in the low 60% range (didn't screenshot for obvious reasons), which was actually surprising given how horribly I played it. Where does Rags and Bones (just for bass) rank on the MC difficulty spectrum? I haven't done a full run through the song since, but I've more or less gotten everything up to 80-85% speed in RR, with a handful of misses here and there. Getting the main groove up to speed is going to take a lot of of work though. And even then, I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to hit 80% overall accuracy with the power chord sections killing my fretting hand as much as they do. Hopefully I can build up some endurance for that/stop fretting so hard by the end of the week though.

  3. Adv bass: quite easy other than the intro. MC bass: http://i.imgur.com/H3D2xu4.jpgI could have sworn it said "picked" in the song selection screen, and I imagine it actually is picked (and... it looks like their bassist plays with a pick). Pretty tough with fingers between the chords and the one riff which makes for an awkard plucking pattern (second section and repeats). While I've gotten better at playing with a pick due to picking up guitar, I'd rather stick to my fingers unless people make me use one. Also, it's not beat synced. From what I saw it stayed pretty close most of the time so it wasn't as bad as some others, but it's kind of annoying (especially as a bassist) not to be able to rely on the visual representation of when you play with respect to the beats.

  4. http://oi58.tinypic.com/30ijexs.jpg While commercially Anthrax did better than Testament, Testament is the 5th member of the Big 4 Thrash bands, no doubt... This is not their usual sound though, go listen to Practice What You Preach, they're a much more groove centered Thrash band, and Chuck has such a brutal and amazing voice that isnt apparent in this song at all... and the show i saw earlier this year was still kick ass, and probably the only Thrash band to get better with age(my opinion)

  9. I got a bunch of images incoming from guitar-land: Int lead: http://i.imgur.com/ktcmC03.jpgOk, so how the hell do I fret these two (first, second) chords? And there might have been some others I found weird. Anyway, outside of the intro chords and these chords I feel like this song isn't too hard, but I don't really know what I should be doing for these chords (the first I've been trying to use my thumb, and sometimes it's been good enough to get the chord "recognized", but I find it next to impossible to get my thumb there and my pinky on the D string without muting everything else). Adv lead. Should be able to improve upon this significantly with some practice. Should be good picking practice along the way, too. Adv rhy. Crappy since it was my first time through the song without any RR or anything. Can definitely improve. Not yet sure how I'd compare it in difficulty to Alison Hell from last week. MC lead: Uh, something must have been broken . Played immediately after playing rhythm. Got totally pwnt on the solo.

  10. New stuff!! http://i.imgur.com/XbgP1Ff.jpg Been forever since I got a pick in, it's about time! :yum: This is some good old catchy radio rock. Some tricky chords for intermediate, but all the melodic bits are easy ear candy. When I suggested this I thought it was a really good chart but actually there are a couple tabbing errors in the chorus and break, if my ears aren't lying. The sync/tones are pretty good, though. http://i.imgur.com/grIaKOZ.jpg :no_mouth: Not sure how that came out of me. Restarted it once about twenty seconds after I got the hang of the hook, but other than that this was a completely blind sightread. This is definitely harder than Cholly, too... just plays to my strengths, I guess. Enjoyable song choice, super funky and really fun rhythms. I'll tune down for Testament later.

  18. Boom Boom Boom Exercise! Exercise: Blues Comping 1 in A major shuffle Don't be scared by that name. We decided to use @ as much as we can, so we're starting an exercise. It won't be a weekly challange and there won't be a winner. But it will be there so you can post scores and see your and others progression. Exercise won't fade away, so you'll be able to post scores as long as we'll be around. Here is the new Exercise Leaderboard. Have fun with that little activity!

  20. That's a rough question tho... Personally i keep playing because of 2 things or even a few more i would say. 1. I love rock/metal music but that isn't as much motivation to keep playing more like a bonus to the other reasons. 2. I want to be prepared for the wedding of my older brother, so i can show off a little bit and surprise him. He won't know what's coming ! He doesn't listen to rock/metal and stuff but even if it's 1 Song, i want to play a nice one and get a smile on his face ! So that he can remember the day he heard me playing on his wedding and tellin his children what a dumbass i am [emoji16] [emoji106] 3. And then when the times come, i'll teach his son how to play the guitar so that he can annoy him a little bit [emoji48] . 4. Obviously i want to know how to play guitar because it's cool as f*ck. 5. I want to be one the best guitarists in the world (or just my home town) even tho that will take some time and probably won't happen. But i'll try.... 5. I want to teach my children some day, to have an advantage for them girls. You know, i have to be a cool Dad in the future (hopefully). [emoji28] 6. I want to be proud to actually play my favorite band songs. That's it. I have plans for thr future and that's why i still play [emoji14] It's not gonna go as planned, but i'll try my best to accomplish all those dreams you could say.. Yeah having kids and show them what Rock has to offer \m/.

  21. I really shouldn't respond as I just picked it back up after a year long depression and couldn't do much of anything but, right now, my motivation is because I want to be like the artists who play the music professionally. Not that I want to be a professional, but I idolize the creators and want to show myself that I can be like them with steady practice. Also, I get really passionate about certain songs and feel closer to them if I can learn them. I enjoy using my fingers to make things happen whether thats on Starcraft or on my bass guitar.

  25. @@Bentron - I'd say this is on the harder end (but nowhere near the hardest, which usually have lots of special techniques) of MC bass. The main riff isn't especially tricky, but it's fast and easy to mess up a bit on it, and it's definitely not a "gimme" (speaking of which, I would say this song doesn't really have any gimmes, which is part of why it's harder than many songs. Even on MC, almost every song has easy bits here or there). And it's harder when you move it down an octave because of the greater fret spacing. I find the part with chords to be somewhat difficult, but not too bad. If it were much faster it would be a disaster (at least for playing with my fingers), but as it is I can play it reasonably comfortably. Again, that's not to say I won't mess it up a bunch throughout the song. Just, I don't feel helpless when I get to those sections. The thing that really gives me trouble is the DGFDGF... riff. I'm not particularly good at raking, but I've gotten it to the point where I can hit it with a comfortable plucking pattern using raking at 100% speed. Just not consistently, and usually not when in score attack. It might also be worth thinking about playing this riff elsewhere. Perhaps in the 12-15 position with your pinky fretting the F (perhaps a bit easier on the fretting hand, but still hard on the plucking hand). Another idea would be to use that same position and fret it all on one string (17-15-12-17-15-12..., which I think should be within reach), or if not, then moving way up and doing it on the A string where you can reach everything on one string in the 17-22 position (way easier on the plucking hand, different kind of difficulty for the fretting hand). By moving around you might also invite more misses as you transition back to the main riff. I remember one other riff, but I think that one was pretty easy. Hope that's somewhat helpful.

It's becoming increasingly rare I run across such good modern music which I had no idea existed previously. This whole album sounds like it was recorded in the late 60s/early 70s.

Anyway, some updates: MC bass: http://i.imgur.com/hsjBLxb.jpgThis run was going splendidly until after the last chorus, where I got a (deserved) miss in the last hard lick then a few (undeserved) misses in the part after that. Oh well, it was still pretty damn good. Int lead: http://i.imgur.com/QNUQZ1J.jpgEventually had a bit of a breakthrough. The thing that took the longest to get down was making sure every finger stayed on the right fret during the repositionings in the chorus. Probably won't try to reach whatever score @@Mortalo decides is appropriate for advancement, though. Adv lead: http://i.imgur.com/umk9UYD.jpgBit of an improvement. Still can do better, but probably won't try to before the end of the week.

  40. I started playing guitar because I am in love with the sounds that the instrument can make. I keep playing because every time I play, there's a little less resistance between my musical thoughts and what actually comes out of my hands. It's addicting.

  41. Compare it to making love with your partner. After a while, you don't need to do it everyday or 3 times a day. Eventually that passion will mellow and age, like a fine bourbon. Don't feel guilty about that. The music is your love, playing guitar is your expression of that love, but you don't need to express it (in that way) every day. Some days I won't play, but I'm on youtube watching lessons or on this site looking for new songs. As for my partner, she turned out to be a bitch so she had to go, but I do still enjoy some fine bourbon! haha! But not everyday. :D But I play guitar when it suits me, and I do sometimes go a week or so without playing. That's what is so great about a hobby, you can do it when you want and that's it. No expectations from anyone else.

  42. But nooo, don't do that! Please! Please be aware that pushing the offset to zero will unsync the bars/measures of your charting. Since end of september I have "fought" for the removal of this prompt: Please see this thread: http://customsforge.com/topic/12197-problem-due-to-reset-offset-to-zero/ What you should do instead (how official DLC are produced) is use the function "push offset up", to produce only full bars before your first note. This means in a 4/4 time signature, you have to push offset up 4 times (or eight). If you want to now why it is useful to have the bars in sync with the music, please read this thread: http://customsforge.com/topic/13688-how-to-add-a-metronome-to-any-song-metronome-bonus-arrangement/ In section (4) I also better explain the procedure above. And while you're there, use the EOF function to place events (shift + e) to place count-in metronome ticks in the bar before your first note... just like it is done in official songs. This is the best guidance to know when the song actualy starts. This is what you actualy want to achieve, right? I know you are someone who cares for his customs, so please get rid of the bad remove-offset-habbit! I beg you :D
