Phill Rudd drummer of AC/DC Arrested today (06/11/2014) NZDT
dazedandbemused replied to Ardalista's topic in Music Discussion
And Malcolm Young getting diagnosed with dementia didn't? When it comes down to it, AC/DC need a solid drummer, not a mind-blowingly innovative one. -
It's not always as simple as just swapping them out. If you have a mismatched neck and body(say the heel of the neck is too big for the pocket, or the neck was made for a different scale length), you're in for a lot of painstaking woodwork. Or, you know, returns procedures and stuff. However, since Squier are Fender licensees, it's less likely to be an issue. Still, be careful. Check once, check twice and check again.

If you can get some CCR, many of the rhythm parts for those songs are all chords. Give it a bash, because John Fogerty is a boss.

Autobiographies/Biographies that you have read?
dazedandbemused replied to AtGame7's topic in Music Discussion
Have to say, I was disappointed when he called the book Mustaine, rather than Hello Me, Meet The Real Me. Was still not a bad read, though. -
OK, so it would be unrealistic to expect Jason Becker to actually get a bucket of ice water dumped on his head, but he's game, you've got to give him that.

I use a Fender ABY pedal for that.

Where Are We All From? Who Are We? What Brings Us To Rs?
dazedandbemused replied to Nitemares's topic in Music Discussion
o/ I'm Al, a grand old 33 years old, and I live just outside Glasgow, Scotland. I don't really do anything much - I've been ill with one thing or another since my 3rd year at university, and despite several attempts to move on with education(microbiology is interesting to study, but most jobs in the field are boring as hell), I've ended up having to drop out. Anyway, music related stuff. The first CDs I bought were Appetite For Destruction and Ride The Lightning(was kind of filling in holes in my brother's collection, because I 'borrowed' his stuff a lot). A few years later, at around 15 years old, I went to my first gig - White Zombie at the Barrowlands. At 18, I bought my first guitar, only partially motivated by the thought that telling girls I played might get me some(spoilers - it didn't). Joined a 'band' a couple of years later, but we were not good(I think the other guitar player and the drummer were both trying to get fired into the bass player). Joined another band a couple of years later, playing bass this time - only 4 strings, so it must be easier, right? - which went better. I say 'better', we weren't great, but it was fun, and noone threw stuff at us at gigs, so I count that as a win. Anyway, while my first guitar was consigned to the dump a few years ago(dropped while stripping the paint to refinish, and buggered the neck), I've been steadily building the collection, so here's a pic(damn you, new mobile phone camera, showing up my need to stop vacuuming around them). http://i61.tinypic.com/1zlr5vb.jpg (And yes, those are boxer shorts. The Gibsons have a nitro finish that would react with the rubber of the stand, so that's why those are there. And they were off the clean pile, so no skid marks.) -
Fernandes are having a clearout sale atm. This might suit, and is within budget on the sale. EDIT: Granted, they don;t really retail for the MSRP, as far as I'm aware, but at that price, there's a lot of bang for your buck.

How many guitars do you have?

I got the edition with the bonus tracks(acoustic versions of stuff like Keelhauled, Shipwrecked etc). Also this new one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgk6PEykvTQ

Well, in my guitar collection right now, there sits: an Epiphone Les Paul standard a Gibson 60's Tribute Les Paul a Gibson SG Special and a Gibson Les Paul Classic (plus some others, including a PRS SE Custom) I've had the Epi the longest(bought new in 2002), and the Classic about a month. None of them are what i would call a 'bad' guitar. They do all feel different to play, and sound slightly different. Try them out. When I bought the classic, I tried about 4 or 5 other guitars that day(a standard, standard quilt top, a studio and a couple of other classics), and the one I got really just made me want to play, even though I really hate playing in public on my own. So try as many as you can. Epiphone make some very good guitars, don;t rule them out just because of the name. Oh, and try a few PR SE singlecuts. They're Les Paul shaped, have mahogany bodies and maple tops(but they're a bit less bulky than a Gibson or an Epi). Worth a go, at the very least.

Well... I have a PRS SE Custom(24 frets and a PRS trem), and MIM Strat and a Jackson soloist(also 24 frets, but a FRO2000 trem). The PRS is miles ahead of of a standard Strat trem. I find it's more comfortable; the tuning is more stable and there's a greater range of movement in the PRS. The PRS next to the FR... the FR will stay in tune through much harsher treatment. I've been able to 'bounce' the Jackson, holding just the trem bar, and then continue playing in RS and getting good note detection. As for actual construction - the Jackson is neck-through, with a contoured heel, so it's very comfortable at the higher frets. That said, I couldn't complain about access with the PRS(a set neck). Both the necks and fingerboards on both guitars feel nice to me. Neither is oppressively heavy, or poorly balanced. Where the guitars really do stand apart is in sound. Going through my amp(Blackstar HT Soloist 60), it would be difficult for them to sound more different. Whether this is the pickups, the body... can't really say, but the PRS sounds, to me anyway, fuller and warmer. All things considered, unless I really needed the FR, I'd take the PRS, tho YMMV.

The SR series are generally pretty good instruments - not top of the range, but solid and reliable. If it's just the one string, it might be a saddle height thing, so check the action on the other strings(the manual should tell you the best place to take measurements) before you go banging into that. Before you do anything, though, have a squizz through youtube for setup videos.

What would your game commentator say?

Well, I'd probably need something like "shape up you lazy bastard" or "sloppier than a bucket of pigswill". -

Everyone knows there are no girls on the internet, anyway. If in doubt, if someone claims they're: a guy, they're a guy a girl, they're a guy a minor, they're a law enforcement agency -

Well, he wouldn't be called Poppa Chubby for one thing. But, just for a little spot of contrast - look at Haim, whats-her-name from Halestorm, Chvrches, and so on - and compare them to Dino Cazares. -

The really sad thing is I can guarantee you Ana Popvic would be a total unknown if she was fat. -
Cheers. Plays great, too. Though RS doesn't like the boost circuit too much ;)

How do you feel about dynamic difficulty?

Meh. It's kinda useful for a first runthrough of an unfamiliar song. -
