Question on PC issue

avsrick

Question

For the 2nd time in a couple weeks since i switched to PC, i have lost my data. As soon as I log in it says something to the affect of data failure. I lose all progress of any songs I have been working on etc. Thankfully, it still has all the songs i downloaded in the folder. I realize i should back up my data but was wondering if there is a simpler fix? I really dont want to back up the game after every time I play. It isnt the end of the world but sure is disappointing when that happens. All the songs go back to zero percent and I have to open riff repeater on every song i start again to get it back to where it was...and i am lazy.

maybe this is a better way to ask. What folder stores this data and can i just back it up that folder?

Just looked this up. Just so you don't have to follow the link (though maybe you should to give thanks), the path is

C: Program Files (x86) > Steam > userdata > (ID number) > 221680 > Remote.

Copy the Remote folder somewhere else to back up your files, and if it gets reset, paste it back in.

I probably wouldn't back up after every play session unless I felt like I really accomplished something on one of the songs. Maybe every few days, though.

Backing up the folder won't do much good unless you remove the bad custom(s) and/or figure out what is causing your profile to be corrupted.

Make sure you don't have any of the customs known to cause crashes that are listed here:

http://customsforge.com/topic/4863-list-of-crashers-jammers-dead-toners-and-misc-problems/

Also, make sure you're not quitting the game while it's auto-saving your profile.  It does this in between each song played, and almost every time you go back to the main menu.  Quitting while it's saving will corrupt your profile.
