  1. We didn't even get Jeff Beck tributes before more bad news arrived - David Crosby RIP
  2. Just heard on the radio.. Jeff Beck RIP. Edit - link https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/jeff-beck-dead-at-78-obit-1234659559/
  3. RIP Terry Hall, front man of The Specials https://www.nme.com/news/music/the-specials-terry-hall-dies-aged-63-cause-tributes-3369212 Edit - Yes, I remember the good old times before the ghost town.
  4. BTW, that reminds me that Angelo Badalementi, known for composing the theme to the TV series, Twin Peaks passed away. If you care for slow, haunting acoustic compositions, try one of these: RIP
  5. Re: the screenshots - Freebirds do not get scored, so I haven't cared if I get an eligible screen shot since somewhere around week 200, when the Freebird rule came in. As for rumours that I am actually the character Death, from Discworld. I deny that and submit, as evidence, that I do not speak in ALL CAPS. I was just giving the Freebird Police a moment of rest. Though, I have never found a more suitable place for tributes to the fallen giants, whose shoulders we stand upon. Cheers, Greg
  6. A couple of sight reads... Here's what I work on every year. The score is not from this year - I'm still in RR at 90% speed.
  7. RIP Jerry Lee Lewis. There was a false alarm on Wednesday, but todays news is for real. Killer was the last man standing of the original '50s rockers. Rock and Roll is officially dead. Long live Rock. A tribute will follow later tonight.
  8. I still post the occasional score, but only bass category in standard tuning. I mostly build and play bass sixes and they don't agree with downtuning.
  9. I'll answer the questions out of order. I competed in the championship regularly from approximately week 100 to week 200. When they brought in the Freebird rule, I jumped onboard because, of course, playing what I want, when I want is as rock and roll as it gets. The FB police became the running gag about me not following any other rule. I had always suggested tributes to the fallen heros while competing. So I just kept up the practice for the last few years. Greg Take THAT FreeBird Police! Edit - and bonus points for the Terry Pratchett reference
  10. RIP Ronnie Hawkins https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/29/obituaries/ronnie-hawkins-dead.html No tribute, though because I can't find anything on Ignition Search. FYI, his band, the Hawks, became Dylan's backing band and eventually The Band. IIRC, he was the first special guest in The Last Waltz, the last show that The Band played together.
  11. A double dose of FreeBird bad news today. RIP Don Wilson, the last original member of the Ventures at age 88. Walk Don't Run on bass = 100% And RIP Dr. Johnny Fever of WKRP One last thing.. BOOOOOOOGERRRR! Take that FreeBird Police!
  12. RIP Ronnie Spector, lead singer of the Ronettes https://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/60s-icon-ronnie-spector-sang-baby-dies-78-82230668
  13. A bad week for the freebirds of the world. 1) RIP Robbie Shakespeare (Sly & Robbie, Black Uhuru, Grace Jones, and many others) . Suitable CDLC for his tribute are sorely lacking. 2) RIP Mike Nesmith. The Monkees were part of my childhood (yes I am an old and gristly freebird), but he wrote and performed a lot of great material. sight read of Different Drum (holy smokes Linda Ronstadt has a great voice) Once through RR, then sight read of I'm a Believer We stand on the shoulders of giants, but those giants are dwindling in numbers.
  14. Not a Rock & Roller, but we still just lost a musical giant. RIP Stephen Sondheim, best known for West Side Story. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/26/theater/stephen-sondheim-dead.html
  15. I didn't read through every post this week. Did we miss the 8th anniversary of the Championship?
  16. Forgot to transfer my screen shots to the cloud... Gimme Shelter on bass 100% Beast of Burden on bass 99% (There's one syncopation that I never get right)
  17. Aw Crud. Tributes are required. I won't be home until late. Someone please get a start on this. Charlie Watts RIP
  18. 100% on bass on La Grange and Tush. RIP Dusty.
  19. RIP Dusty Hill, ZZ Top bassist. https://variety.com/2021/music/news/zz-top-bassist-dusty-hill-dead-dies-1235029656/ Prepare for off topic tribute posts, because FreeBirds do that. Add your own if you feel inclined to be a temporary FreeBird minion. Take that FreeBird Police.
  20. I can't resist playing Eddie Cochran tunes (Summertime Blues) - 100% Or the Joan Jett cover - 100% I only got Summer Nights up to 99.7%. I'll post a screen shot when I make 100.
  21. This Life on my hollow archtop bass VI @ 98.5%. I had to transpose the last few sections to the higher strings below the 12th fret because there is no cutaway and that's where the neck meets the body.
  22. Life on Mars? - I'm in! Have a Cigar - I'm in deep. Riverman sounds cool and worth some effort. Acoustic versions incoming! Oh, and a hollow archtop bass VI build in progress because I just can't help myself - Take THAT FreeBird Police.
  23. I got Iris on bass up to 100% pretty quickly. I'll try to work on Poison Arrow this week, but not using the acoustic - I'll dust off one of the Bass VIs.
  24. Oooh - excellent choice for advanced bass.
  25. Thanks @Rodman I'm still woodshedding on it. Both acoustically and amplified, it is intolerant of fingering sloppiness. You can hear every squeak and clank. I'll report back after I shed a few lazy habits. Maybe I'll experiment with some form of string mute too. And thanks for reminding me. I need to make an addendum to my pervious post... Take that FreeBird police!
