  1. Strumming and Riffing along!

  2. Hello tknapp66 , More Blind Melon would be great , what a great band. Unfortunately only known mostly for their single 'No Rain' and often written off as a one hit wonder. But all of their albums were amazing. (They released a new one a few years back which has some great guitar and bass tracks on it...Sure it's no Shannon Hoon but what can you do). So...there is a request form to fill out for all custom song requests : First click this link to be redirected to the request list: http://requests.customsforge.com/index.php?b We will first see if songs you want have been requested yet. So type in Blind Melon, if the song you want is on the list, click the 'like' button. (There's no point in requesting a song that's already been requested). Looks like Galaxy and Sleepy House and a few others are on there. Next, if your song is NOT on that list, click "request form" and fill out the required parameters. One thing that is required for the charters is a link to a guitarpro tab of the song. You can find those at a few sites: http://www.songsterr.com/ http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/ Hope this helps for future requests. Rock on!
  3. What's everyone playing lately?

  4. Yes. Also, start simple. Many of us did not start with metal...sure a few metal riffs here and there...but we started with simpler stuff. Punk is easy, gets that right hand speeding up. Start with Blitzkrieg Bop, it will teach you power chords , which are found in the majority of metal. Don't practice things you've become good at. Practice what you're bad at. So if you learn to change between C and G effectively and quickly...don't keep practicing songs with C and G, practice new chords. If you learn one part of a solo and can play it without thinking, dont keep practicing that...learn the next part. Play without Rocksmith too. Pick up your guitar out of game, play chords and scales you've learned from the game. Practice riffs you've learned. Play the arcade practice games. String Skip Saloon (don't look at your guitar when you play this), Temple of the Bends (practice bends with ALL fingers) and the Duck Redux (don't look down at your guitar). Learn scales in session mode, they make it fun... Focus on the quality of your practice, not the length. At first it might be frustrating...but, keep going. Don't get discouraged, YOU WILL GET BETTER!
  5. Yeah to expand on these comments a bit, it looks like your whole right arm is very tense...try mindfully relaxing when you're playing. Of course we want to do what's natural but we develop some bad habits. I've had mixed opinions about anchoring...it keeps the hand in one spot, so you have to kind of twist it to pick proper (the way attitude is suggesting). I anchor too though..try just anchoring with the tip of your pinky. I wouldnt worry about what your thumb is doing, but I would worry about wrist/hand pain, you shouldn't have pain, try practicing relaxing your wrist and arm. Here's a decent article: http://tomhess.net/Articles/PrinciplesOfGoodPracticeHygiene.aspx
  6. Thanks so much firekorn :D . There are a few I can do with no problem. The really well done 21 Guns - Green Day CDLC is an easy one (rhythm or lead guitar), Black - Pearl Jam (rhythm). I'd like to play more complex stuff and sing, but I think it's like you said, practice...there are no shortcuts I guess huh? :(
  7. Anyone know how to do this? I want to sing and play at the same time, I find that some songs I can do it (the simpler the rhythm the easier), others not so much. Any tips on how to practice this or get better at this?
  8. Thanks! Yeah will def. get some straplocks and a case. (Also Admin/mods please move this to 'gear garage' if you have a chance, is where I meant to post this -- oops)
  9. Hey guys, I'm going to buy a PRS SE 245. Does anyone have one? What's your experience with PRS? For the price they seem amazing, and the tone is really versatile. http://www.prsguitars.com/se245/
  10. I am slowly learning to develop my ear. I am learning to listen to songs and find the notes on my own with just my ipod and guitar! Rocksmith has helped with this...Just keep practicing and playing, in Rocksmith and on your own...Try finding simple songs with simple solos to try to tab or work out yourself. Even if you just start with the intro it's progress right? Eventually you'll hear a note and know where to find it on the fretboard. You'll learn by ear whether it's a power chord, if it's palm-muted, if it's a double-stop. Just practice, keep going forward and most importantly don't get discouraged! This community is amazingly helpful and supportive. Good luck!
  11. Thanks guys that's a big help this should keep me going for awhile. Hope you are all having a happy holiday!
  12. Hey guys, Lately I've been been busting out my acoustic guitar a lot more lately and want to expand my playing styles and skills. Anyone know of some good fingerpicking/ fingerstyle songs that are cdlcs here? I have the basics already, Dust in the Wind - Kansas, Babe I'm going to Leave you - Zeppelin, Tears in Heaven - Clapton, Landslide - Fleetwood Mac. Greensleeves and some Classical stuff. Any other song suggestions would be great. Genre is no matter.Thank you!
  13. At least you're playing, some people never get around to it. Better late than never! (And 35 is still really young).
  14. I do it like most here, but I will play the song at 100% speed, and adjust the difficultly to something challenging, I do this to see which parts I can play with time and which parts I can't. Then I go back and slow the parts I'm having a hard time with, I usually slow it down in riff repeater (with accelerator on and error tolerance at low or zero) if I still struggle when it speeds up by itself, I'll slow it down and do it over and over again. Also, practicing scales on your OWN outside of Rocksmith is helpful...try going faster , also practice chords and changing them, I just have my guitar while I'm watching tv and practice scales and what not, up and down the neck.
  15. You can already do that. If you click on the gear icon beside the search box on the top of every page you can access all of the advanced search options. So if you enter "metal, blues, christmas" in the "Find Tags" box, and then select "Submitted CDLC" in the "Find in forum" section you can search all of the submitted CDLC for those tags. Thank you so much! This makes life easier :)
  16. Can't stop playing!

It's paying off! Getting better every day :) thanks mate!

  17. I think there should be an option to search via 'tag' in the customs search options. ie. 'metal', 'blues', 'Christmas', 'guitarist name' etc.
  18. Sweet!! Love to try your cdlc. Yeah I'm going to continue my donation too, this place is amazing!
  19. I was (and probably still am) a beginner. I started with Lead because that's what I want to play :) I think either way you progress, it depends on what u want to play.
  20. Honestly, IMHO... Budgie Check out their album "Never Turn Your Back on a Friend"
  21. Yeah , definitely . My goal is to try to play the song OUTSIDE of RS...I try to play it several times in master score attack and commit it to memory, this doesn't always work as I jump around and want to play a bit of everything in a practice session. This actually improves my playing, I jump massive plateaus quickly and the improvement is noticed as I play all types of songs in all types of tuning, with all types of techniques (bends, barre chords, arpeggios, trem, hammers and pulls, tapping, slides, major shifting)...I don't learn a lot of whole songs, I only know about 3 or 4 from start to end... However, every time I notice I get better , I can rip through some riffs outside of RS, and can improvise with ease... I know I should focus on one or two songs, but this is what's fun and what works for me. If I am determined to learn a whole song, I will play it over and over, (with master mode turned OFF) , get it as high as I can then use riff repeater (starting at 70% speed per piece) and go from there...I learned Aces High in an afternoon (not including solo) and I consider myself a beginner. :)
