Since this weekend SHRED FEST XIV is happening i decided to take songs from the lineup. There were lots of bands to choose from and sadly not all could make it but hopefully this is a decent amount of songs.
So what is shredfest? its a twitch rocksmith streaming event that happens i believe every year? anyone can sign up to play a set of one band or you can just watch the streamers play. If you want to show some support go ahead and check it out 🙂 i think the event helps towards a charity but dont mark my words for that lol.

at the time of posting this is who is playing:

Slot 17: Sat, Apr 12, 03:00 PM CST

Alex_el_mariachi (Dying Fetus)

All the songs will require practice as they all have some tricky parts in them.

As always letmeknow what you would rate them and we can average it out to balance the ratings.

I tried to keep it Cstandard/ Drop C to avoid alot of detuning and not too low. I added E and drop d songs to beginner though incase they cant go that low.
Ill try to find the forum on how to set up reaper+pitchproof just incase

ill also double check the winners but i think it should be good.

Hope yall have a good week /m/

deftones all the paths are fun to play and very similar just played differently on the fretboard, so i added electric callboy to give it some variety. Deftones youll probably want to rr the intro and end, i think it should be doable since "r u mine by arctic monkeys"  had some tricky parts and i think it was beginner. Electric is a bit faster than normal but it has lots of open notes so i think a beginner could get a high score as long as they alternate pick.

hangover- cool cover song. Its just a 4 chordish song since the og one is a pop song, buuut i did struggle tog et a good recognition thats why i added it in bonus. Still fun to play

atreyu- fun little riff, theres not much of a solo so i think its ok in high int.

black deliah - has some cool parts

children of bodom- peace,    was in gh WoR and was apain to play on drums but fun lol.

Contestant @ RaZrShReD  will be performing on sunday at 3pm so make sure to stop by and watch some of it 🙂

I think winning with a score of 53 might be a first? congrats @ Willyam  lol

I can do worse 😂

last week i focused on I love rock and roll. If i want to make a cover then i need the 3 paths. But also i really tried to be #1 on the bass path 😅

I’d thought I’d ask this…. Overtime I’ve noticed my playing is getting worse not as quick and responsive. I don’t know if it’s the Guitar and the RGT1221 isn’t right for me and might look at a AZ2402. But I’ve only mainly played Rocksmith not practising outside of the weekly songs and I think why my playing is going downhill, outside of the Championship how do you guys sharpen your skills?

Rocksmith is more like performing than practicing, so I think that's why progress is slow without supplementing with practice outside the program.

Doing the covers has improved my playing because there is more, higher quality practice involved.

You can play to a metronome and compare the audio/waves on separate recordings to evaluate accuracy and precision.

In this pic, columns show measures and rows show takes.

P6RFpe0.png

See measure 22 is all over the place, measure 24 is more tight.

Keep doing takes until you are happy/everything lines up where it should across the whole song.

(overall alignment is off but you get the point, reproducibility)

RR won't show you this much detail nor allow playback where you listen for mistake, identify, and correct.

Another huge thing is practice with purpose:

Set clear goals for theory, technique, scales, improvisation, etc. by day/week/month so everything is done with purpose and progress is tangible.

Watch YouTube channels like Paul Davids, Andrew Clarke, Rick Beato, Berklee Online, BassBuzz for lessons.

They are the ones that I got all this from.

Shop around for instructors you like and try to narrow down to like 5 that you vibe with, there are so many to choose from!

Edit: One more thing! Singing the guitar part made a big difference for me like in elevator operator TA TATATATA TA. I have seen a few musicians mention this on interviews

I usually follow, Bernth as it's straight to the point with Guitar Pro which something I use. It's just that I don't have a structured plan and a way forward an end goal as I'm just playing alone in my shed/man cave at night before bed. Might need to invest in a face to face tutor.

Same that's the dream! An idea to structure at home: identify techniques you are weak at in the weekly song and try to make that the focus for the week's practice.

Just an example, if triplets in a song got you struggling look up a lesson on YT and find a video from one of the instructors you follow (Sean Daniel on YT has a great video on triplets).

Then slow your playing down and play to a metronome with the things you learned in mind, there's always something to pick up from another musician

BERNTH is dope but his lesson structure leans more "do these X things to improve your Y" afaik that means you are playing drills imo more of a side quest so you won't see immediate improvements in the weekly songs although you'll still get something out of it if you are consistent with it (hardest part of all and biggest factor!!)

But I’ve only mainly played Rocksmith not practising outside of the weekly songs and I think why my playing is going downhill, outside of the Championship how do you guys sharpen your skills?

How exactly are you measuring the quick and responsive though? If its by rocksmith make sure to set up the guitar in the menu everytime you switch a guitar or bass since they all have different volumes/tones that may change the detection level.

I only can speak of my experience, which is  i only pick up my guitar if i play rocksmith or try to make cdlc.

I would reccomend making cdlc / transcribing does help you understand music better and you will notice not all bands play perfectly on the dot in bpm which can be a pain to tab but may relieve you to not be so hard on yourself.

I wouldn't reccomend you to just use rocksmith so its good that you are asking others 🙂

If you do  it will be a slow grind especially if you are like me and play multiple songs instead of focusing and 100% one (quality > Quantity) . Do keep in mind, 100% is a bit false as rocksmith can be very forgiving, especially on bass. If you record yourself while playing rocksmith and get 100% you will notice that sometimes your rhythm might be ahead or behind the beat ( which is why theres good perfect late etc in score attack).

Also getting 100% isnt nesecarly the end, cause you can get 100% in a song and not remember it at all. Recording yourself is nice for a reminder of what you can do and how you did it but remember to play the songs again throughout time. If you just play to 100% once or to record yourself you are basically just cramming for a test, you wont retain most of the information cause you failed more than succeded. Memory is generally only good if you are consistant with it, if not, you will easily forget most of it.

Hence probably the best one to retain any new learnt song is to play master mode in score attack alot or just play without looking at the screen. But I am guilty myself for not doing this much but wish i had done more and would reccomend those with fewer hours to do so more to not make the same mistakes as me 🙂

and what @ drand  mentioned i think is important aswell have a clear achievable goal. Set small ones to keep you practicing and to keep the dopamine going. If you make them too large its more likely to lose focus and motivation. Kinda like videogames that reward you for doing an activity for single digit number of times. Rocksmith has some missions that might help but create your own smaller tasks.

Also little things that might help in speed in the longterm is being more proactive in general by doing other activities, playing other instruments such as piano drums etc, eat healthy (if you eat poorly your brain might not function as good as it used to), exercise, a good night sleep, maths, puzzles, create things paintings sculptures songs, learn a new language, history or other facts, read books, cooking new recipes, try anything that you wouldnt usually do blabla. A bit generic but you gotta keep the brain moving and curious, which is why i think kids actually are quick learners cause they generally do more thats new to them and different activities throughout the day.
