  1. I've never used a Fretlight, or the software that comes with it, so I can't say for sure, but this could be easier than initially thought. After doing some exploratory research, it looks like there is a CPU and some RAM inside the Fretlight guitar. So here's what I'm wondering: Does the software upload the tab or track to the Fretlight guitar before you start playing? And if so, is it then just "playing along" in-sync with the track on the software? Because if so, maybe it's as simple as finding a way to upload the same data to the Fretlight before starting the song in Rocksmith. Then, syncing with RS would be the only major hurdle.
  2. .crdownload is a container that Chrome uses to store incomplete downloads. So if you still have files with that extension it's because you didn't let Chrome finish downloading the file before trying to use it. Once the file is completely downloaded it will work fine.
  3. The best way to practice will always be to just sit down with your guitar and amp and play stuff that you want to improve on. Work in small sections at a time. So if you know the chords and chord progressions, just sit down and repeat them over and over again until you're playing at a level that satisfies you. Then move on to the next part, and so on. As an example of my own, I have a good tab for The Black Key's "Gotta Get Away", which isn't available as a custom (yet, here's hoping). The song is fairly simple with two basic parts (intro/chorus, and the verse) which are repeated, and a solo. I play the song on my stereo to get the groove in my head, and then played the intro/chorus over and over again until I nailed it. Then I moved on to the verse part until I had that. Now I'm working through the solo. When I have all three parts down, I'll do a full playthrough. I think the most important part of practicing is knowing when to move on, and when to give up for the session. I was told once never to practice what you're good at, but to practice what you're bad at. So once I have a part that I can play well, I stop and move on to a part I need to work on. If I struggle and get stuck or frustrated, I take a 5-10 minute break and come back to it. I find if I just try and hammer through it I actually get worse instead of better. Playing music should be fun, so if I'm not having fun I take a break. Guitar Pro is a good tool for learning outside of RS, if you have well done GP tabs. You can play along with just the tab and the midi music and watch the tab scroll as you go. I also have Roland's Cube Jam app on my iPhone/iPad which allows you to import songs and play along with them, all through your amp. You can section off a song and have that section play on repeat so you can concentrate on riffs, verses, choruses, etc. You can also slow it down just like Riff Repeater in RS.
  4. This is a debate that has been going on ever since the invention of the CD and mp3's. But in the end, it's all about personal preferences and how you listen to music. Vinyl has a layer of warmth and some "pop" that just can't be replicated with CD's and mp3's. But CD's are more convenient, and mp3's even more. FLAC vs mp3/any lossy format, all depends on the original source. And even then, any difference you hear will depend on the equipment you're playing on, and your ears. When I'm at home listening to music I prefer vinyl and FLAC sourced from vinyl because I have a high-end 7.1 Denon receiver and a Bose surround sound speaker set and subwoofer. On that system you can actually hear a difference between formats. Vinyl and FLAC ripped from vinyl are clear and crisp. They have more body and fill the room more. To put it simply, I can listen on a lower volume and still get everything from the music. Mp3's lose a lot of that with the compression and sound a bit hollow and muted. Yes, the main part of the music, the meat and potatoes so to speak, are audible but you lose a lot of the nuances that are behind the music. Things like fret mutes, taps, the high end of the snare drum, don't stand out as clearly. Plug in a good set of headphones, removing the acoustic effects of the room, and you can hear the difference even more clearly. In the car, mp3's are fine because I have a stock system and low-end speakers. Everything sounds the same in the car. Same with listening on my iPhone, because it's the same source playing the music. But again, it all depends on your ears as well. My wife doesn't listen to music in the same way that I do, so she doesn't perceive the differences in the same way that I do.
  5. I answered your question via the private message you sent me. I'll also paste the same answer here, for anybody else needing the same help. "Thanks for sending me a message. I'll try my best to help you out. The first thing I would recommend would be to re-download RSInjector. Sometimes when there is a Steam update (which there was a few days ago) RSInjector will no longer work. Re-downloading it from this site usually will fix the problem. Also, try removing all cdlc from the folder and add them back 2 or 3 at a time to verify they work. Sometimes 1 bad cdlc will stop the game from recognizing what's in the dlc folder. If neither of those work let me know and I'll see what else I can think of."
  6. It does sound interesting, but here's the problem I see: The guitar a user is playing interfaces with Rocksmith, but not the other way around. What I mean is, and I'll use laymen terms to keep is easy, is that RS says "play Em" and waits for the user input. It then uses the frequencies of each string to determine if the chord/note was played correctly. RS doesn't actually know whether you have your fingers in the correct place, but rather implies that based on the frequency of the notes you played. That's why you can have your fingers in the correct place but still miss a note because you didn't pluck the strings hard enough or your guitar volume was too low. Same with using a guitar with light gauge strings set to drop tunings. Sometimes there's too much slack in the strings for the frequency to ring out correctly, so RS tells you to move your finger(s) up/down. So there's no interface inside the game that sends out commands, only an interface to receive them. Essentially, the realtone cable is one way only. The only chance to grab some output would be to take it after the game outputs to the speakers, but that defeats the purpose of your idea. If you wait for graphical output, it would be hard to sync with the game and your playing. Especially with fast moving passages. You would also run into latency issues with sending things in and out through two different interfaces (the realtone cable in, and the fretlight interface out). The fretlight guitar works with Guitar Pro though, so maybe you can achieve what your after through that software (if you're just looking for a way to play more songs with it).
  7. You missed the big summer sale for RS and RS2014, but it may come up again towards the end of the season. And I only mentioned the rules to try and help avoid saying the whole "you can't talk about piracy here" thing. A lot of times just by saying that the conversation goes down that road anyway. I struggle with making customs as well, but I'm a Mac user and have a whole different set of frustrations, along with not being able to get everything to sync properly. There are a couple of tutorials, and video tutorials that explain some of the different methods charters use to do their work and they're all PC based so you might find some help there. The biggest trick that has helped me so far is remembering to set the BPM for the song inside EoF BEFORE you import the tab. If you're using GP tabs the BPM is usually listed at the top of the first page, and again at the top of any page where it changes throughout the song. If you set the starting BPM before you import the tab the first part of the song is at least synced (usually, but not always). And to help hold you over, LiquidLizard has posted a nice version of "Hey Man, Nice Shot" that has bass in it, if you're interested: http://customsforge.com/page/customsforge_rs_2014_cdlc.html/_/pc-enabled-rs-2014-cdlc/hey-man-nice-shot-r5720 I've never played the bass track, so I can't vouch for it though.
  8. Without buying your DLC for PC, there's no legal way to get it. When you bought the DLC for ps3, you paid for the licenses for that platform only. Licenses aren't transferable. However, if you purchase RS1 and the Song Import Tool, you can import them all (except 2 tracks) into RS2014. There's also a weird error/issue with Steam where it won't let you purchase any DLC originally released for RS1 (so anything released prior to Oct. 22, 2013) without purchasing RS1 through Steam first. I'm not sure why, since all DLC is RS2014 compatible, but that's the way it works. Make sure you read the rules for this site as well, which are here: http://customsforge.com/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=boardrules
  9. Yeah, I thought so. You're not even willing to stand behind your own idea. Shows where your true motivation is.
  10. Oh no! Not half a page... Don't worry, I'm done with this thread. Your idea is dead in the water anyway. It's pretty obvious you've never developed software, and never worked with crowd-sourced funding. You want something done, but you aren't willing to pay the money or take the risk yourself. You want to leverage the community to do it for you. So lead by example, and put up $200 (or whatever the dev wants) yourself to get the Tab Explorer project finished, and you'll see how complicated it will get. See if you get your money's worth. And after you've paid $200 for it, and everyone else gets it for free, see how you feel about that. As I said earlier, and firekorn echoed, raising money beforehand is a terrible idea. There's a reason why crowd-source funding based software projects fail 90% of the time. There's also a reason why only 5 people have bothered to chime in on this thread. There is no interest. There are 36,000+ members of this site, and only an average of 250 per day are actually active at one time. That's less than 1%. And of that 0.69%, most of those users are charters uploading stuff or users downloading stuff. Very few of us actually take the time to post in threads and try and help people out. My point? That customs are what bring users here, and the already existing tools are more than sufficient for their needs. Most of them never even use the Toolkit or EoF. And what Zans and I are talking about is incredibly relevant. You're not a Mac user, so it doesn't concern you, and you therefore don't care. But it concerns us, because it sums up my exact issues with your ideas. There will never be decent Mac support. Zans issue has to deal with that exact problem. Ask another professional developer and they'll tell you the same thing I am. It's smarter to build the app and sell it for cheap afterwards. I'd rather sell a $2 app to 1000 people than do the same job for peanuts, which is what fundraising will get you. But I get it, you don't want to hear from anybody who disagrees with you. (Oh, and you can't "provide print capability of tabs within PSARC files". You can't provide print capability within ANY file. Printing is software based, not file based.)
  11. No rush, I know you have a long list. And don't feel any pressure to implement any of my suggestions that you disagree with. I am nowhere near an expert at playing guitar or picking out notes by ear. I just appreciate that you're willing to at least listen to some feedback and consider it.
  12. Awesome! I don't want to sound like I'm kissing ass, but this is why I think you're a good charter. So many others aren't interested in constructive criticism or improving their customs. I've made several comments to other charters that just get ignored. So, for 10am Automatic: The notes in the chorus are just slightly out of sync (for Mac anyway). They are just slightly ahead of the music. And I do mean just slightly. It's never in any of the tabs, but there are fret hand mutes all through the chorus (if you listen with headphones, you can hear them on the actual song). There are 4 mutes in between each section of the chorus (does that make sense?)For Till I Get My Way: It sounds great the way it is, but I'm pretty sure the tab you used is for the live version. The studio version uses the same notes, but on the E, D, and A strings, instead of just E and A. So where your version goes down to the 9th and 7th frets on the A string, the studio version plays those notes on the 4th and 2nd frets of the D string. I apologize for my poor terminology, but I didn't want to just list the actual musical notes. For the chorus, the studio version is played with single notes. Starting on the A string, it goes from the 4th fret, to the 7th fret, to the 9th fret, and then ends on the B note of the E string (7th fret). I don't think this is such a big difference since, if I remember correctly, your version uses pretty much the same notes, just power chords instead of single notesThe tone's volume needs to be increased. Even with my in-game mixer set to 80 for the audio and 100 for the guitar, it's hard to hear my own playing clearly. I think that's it... at least all that I can remember for now. I'll make some notes if I come across anything else the next time I play.
  13. Nice! I made some comments on BK's "Set You Free". I also have some input for 10am Automatic and Till I Get My Way if you're interested.
  14. Try re-downloading them as well. Sometimes they get corrupted during the download (the toolkit seems pretty picky). However, if you find some that continually crash or hang the toolkit, try contacting the charter to see if they will convert it on their end. Oddly enough, I've had a few customs that the charter has uploaded a Mac version, only to have that version not work in RS. Downloading their PC version and converting it myself makes it work just fine. It's odd. Both the situation, and the toolkit. However, I'm in agreeince with you. I wish there was a fully fleshed out, fully Mac compatible Toolkit.
  15. Make sure you're using the latest version of the Toolkit. I've got 350+ customs installed right now, and have downloaded 400+. I've only had problems converting 2 of them (Zombie by The Cranberries and Glycerine by Bush).
  16. You're welcome! I forgot to mention though, make sure you calibrate your guitar before you start. That way you'll get the best results for your particular guitar (you should also calibrate every time you switch guitars, if you use more than one). To calibrate, go into the tuner and select any tuning (E Standard for example). Then press "space" to enter the calibration. Make sure the volume on your guitar is turned all the way up. You'll go through the same "mute the strings" and "now play loudly" thing that you went through when you played RS for the very first time. This will make sure the in-game output of your guitar is calibrated to your guitar.
  17. Go into the Tone Designer, and design the tone you'd like. Name it, and save it. Then, assign it to the "Tone Stick" (keys 2-4 on your keyboard). Then press the corresponding key whenever you want to use that tone. You will see the name pop-up on the right hand side of the screen, where the other tone names pop up.
  18. No, they should all work. I have every Black Keys custom uploaded here and they all work and show up in the game. I have about 350+ customs in my dlc folder, and they all show up in the game at the same time. The file names themselves don't have any impact, so long as they end in "_m.psarc". You can even change the filename after playing the song in RS and it will still keep your progress. Make sure they don't have any of OS X's qualifiers attached to the end of the filename though. For instance, if you download the same file more than once, OS X will stick a "(2)" on the end of the file to show it's a duplicate. The game won't load the custom if it has something like that at the end. It must end in "_m.psarc" Try either redownloading them (sometimes they get corrupted when downloading) or using the Toolkit to set the AppID to Cherub Rock (again, sometimes they get corrupted). As for the level, it sort of depends on what skills you've demonstrated in the game and what the Dynamic Difficulty levels are in the tracks. If it's too hard for you, just keep playing through the song. It will eventually start taking away notes you aren't hitting. Not all of the tracks have DD either. You can tell because the progress bar at the top of the screen is very short, and all orange (instead of the usual ups and downs, and filled in with purple).
  19. Not really necessary, for me at least, since converting is as simple as opening the toolkit and clicking 2 buttons.
  20. Yes, make sure your toolkit is updated to the latest version. The layout of the app is a little off (at least on a Retina Macbook), but if you point the mouse at the upper right corner of the app, just below the menu, you'll see it changes colour a little and you can click on it. That will bring up a little pop-up to tell you if there's an update available. The current version (released 2014-07-08) is 2.6.1.0 - eda5f722 Now, here's the problem... the app will appear to download an update, but it won't actually install anything (or at least not that I can tell). Just keep going through the process and clicking update, and usually after 3-4 tries it will actually download and install the update. You can tell if it was successful by looking at the version number in the title bar. @@JStar_98... I'm not sure how much help you need, since your question isn't very specific. So I'll give as much detail as I can, and please forgive me if I list things you already know how to do. All of the cDLC here is posted on file sharing services such as Dropbox, Google Docs, etc. Go to this link: http://search.customsforge.com and find the cDLC you want to download. Click on the "DL" link (downwards arrow pointing to a tray) and that will open the forum page where the cDLC is listed. Scroll down to the bottom of the song information, and you will see the sections "Release Notes" and "Download Link" If the charter has posted a Mac version there is sometimes a separate link in the "Release Notes" section. Otherwise, click "Download Link" and that will take you to the file service hosting the file. Depending on the filehost, it will either automatically download the file, or give you a download button to push. Some charters who use Dropbox will have Mac and PC (and PS3/Xbox) versions hosted. Simply find the Mac version (ends in "_m.psarc") and download that. The default folder for Mac downloads is the "Downloads" folder. If there is no Mac version, simply download the PC version (ends in "_p.psarc") and use the Toolkit to convert it. Open the Toolkit, go to the Converter tab, and set the correct settings. Source is "PC", target is "Mac". Use the default Cherub Rock AppID, unless you downloaded a different official DLC, and if so use that AppID. Click "Choose DLC To Convert" and navigate to your Downloads folder and find the file. It usually takes 15-30 seconds to convert a file. If it hangs for more than 2 minutes that means that the file won't convert. Force Quit the app using the main Apple Menu (Apple icon in the top left corner of your task bar) to quit if it hangs. After successful conversion or download (if you started with the Mac version) copy the file to your Rocksmith DLC folder ("/Users/[yourusernamehere]/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Rocksmith2014/dlc") and load the game by opening Steam (don't start Rocksmith) and launching the RSInjector app. Steam and Rocksmith MUST be installed into the default directory, or RSInjector will not be able to locate and launch Rocksmith. Lastly, say goodbye to your free time and other hobbies. You won't be seeing either for a little while :P
  21. Did you download RSInjector from this site? If so, try downloading it again. Maybe it got corrupted somehow.
  22. Have you tried replacing your RSInjector app? It seems like sometimes when there is a Steam update the RSInjector app gets either corrupted or it can't find the right files. Last time I had cDLC no longer appear in the game, replacing my RSInjector app solved the problem. I keep a backup of RSInjector as well as the cDLC that I really like in my Dropbox folder, as a separate backup (i.e., not a backup of the local files I am currently using). That way, whenever I have a problem I just restore from my Dropbox account. Also, try removing all cDLC, and adding them a few at a time to see if they show up again. Start with a few files that you are 100% sure worked fine before. It could be 1 individual cDLC that is causing everything to not show.
  23. This might help you out: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=191536548
  24. It won't be in your apps folder. The game is installed via Steam, so it will only appear there. That's why you need RSInjector, as it will launch Rocksmith from the folder I listed above. That's why Steam, and Rocksmith, have to be installed in that particular folder. So, if during the installation, you chose to install into a different folder you'll have to uninstall Steam and Rocksmith, and then re-install using the default settings.
