A lot going on for me guitarwise that year... Not only have i bought my dream acoustic after a lot of exhausting tests

but i´ve also be thinking about my performance in the CS. Last year was packed with rl stuff - i got a new boss at work and i was named deputy chief of my department, which comes with (as always) a lot lot more work than you´d expect .... but i got that all covered by now and i´ll not go without one hour of guitar a day 2025. Goals? Now - i am in direct contest with our vip players/orgas @ Mikson  in adv lead and with @ cacahuate51  in mc Rhy Mc (and adv lead). And i am in the lucky situation that they both are a tad better than me. Always. Everytime. ;). So aside competing in the CS what i am to do to close the gap. I was considering getting a teacher - but no - that would drag my attention away from the CS and that´s my home. Not negotiable. So i went through my weaknesses - and besides arpeggios (those will improve that year, yeah, by training the sections when needed) the real pain is the solosections coming up - really suck at those quick notes - so

1) Learn to shred and learn the fretboard!!!! So at beginning of january i did some research - changed my pick, changed my picking technique and changed my fretting technique (oh boy what a pain after more than 10 years of doing everything ... other ways) started to do shredding exercises...

i am doing 10 to 60 mins a day and

 

 

and that´s freaking 160bpm on tripplets. Yes - sloppy, but precision is gonna kick in over time.

extremely happy with that. While practicing those i am learning the fretboard to be able to see all the scales realtime... i hope that will be very benificial for the solo stuff.....

 

2) what i am extremely bad in is converting my playing abilities into just playing a song out of my head - i don´t know any 🙂
And here we come back to the acoustic thing. A few years ago i started a just for fun side challenge in the championships mainly with @ diceslinger  where whoever wanted to join in did a cover on a song one of the contestant called. No rules - just post a vid or audio of your cover - everything counts - plain acoustic, plain bass, add vocals, add drums, use a background track, do a full studio recording with a band - all is great. No winners - or shall i say only winners - no losers. That was so much fun and we got better so fast in putting covers together and also recording stuff.

I am thinking of a reboot on that - as i am planning to learn a song (easy version) every week anyway that year - if ANYONE is interested to join in i´d love to have a go again here.

Here is one of the last ones we did 4 years ago - i did that with my daughter.

So if anyone is interrested shout. Or even - call any song you´d like to play!

That's not actually so hard. But as I can't move my fingers as fast as required and place it in correct position I always brake the sequence.

Performed better on my LAS sightread than on score attack, super fun bassline

Another really fun one, note detection was a little wonky on my slaps but that solo is way too fun so I'm not mad 


Tried my best to learn the tapping solo with some luck, way better than my sightread though so ill def take it

Every week I mess up my fingers on day 1 why lawd I didn't even know I needed calluses there ow 

i play a lot of blues mostly so not sure if just better at blues, but found this one waaay harder

and someone asked me to play gaga the other day and i kinda laughed... but i take it back now this is a great song

i do play fingerstyle still, but the shorter scale length and easier fretting power feels a little bit like cheating tbh!

Emulated bass scores are absolutely valid. Have always been. There are lots of arguments for. Not everyone owns a bass/can afford/is willing to buy one. We still want to encourage every player to dive into the cool groovy world on the lower end. And also that it really yields the higher acc has never been proven. For myself it doesnt on the songs i tried both.

Brilliant song, lots of Johnny Winter influence there. I'm just not at this level.
 

First scores

Some technical stuff, so this is quite difficult for beginners.

I've heard this before, but I didn't expect it to be so fun to play!

Unfortunately this is a very old CDLC with very slow scrolling, I couldn't get used to it, but the chart is quite interesting.

This seems extremely difficult to me, is this really only 8? @ cacahuate51 For me this is a solid 9 at least... 🫣

Yeah thats kinda the downside of themed weeks, you choose a theme that people arent into and it can be hell for them.  Oh well, glad you enjoyed one song though! interesting you mention johnny winter cause I had tested one of his songs and was close in selecting one for this week.

Steel panther is definatley one of those controversial bands that people tend to have a strong opinion about, hate or enjoy, the line between cringe and comedy is very thin.  
I personally enjoy a lot of their songs.Their personas makes them interesting to watch (tutorials, interviews etc). And this song seems to be heavily inspired by or mocking Extremes more than words. I also remember the band has stired up some heat before in the championship😆  

They are all old charts though, so youll be safe from me picking more of their charts (unless the creator or someone else decides to update them/make more) (kinda a conversation i had with @ Daz40  in discord a while back)

Ah cool I didnt know about that! That does sound like fun and interesting to hear others renditions! I'd be open to the idea for sure.
Also very neat that you got your daughter to sing I'm sure that will be a core memory for her!

I dont think I am competition anymore with @ craxed  joining us. That man is a beast.

 I also have a feeling @ drand  @ Satinuke  and @ Vodka  will all be moving very soon to advanced aswell. More competition, this year will be very interesting and fun!!

Ooh interesting I never heard of this song or the remix. The song I have heard is "heaven is a place on earth" by belinda carlisle. I like that song more tbh, wonder if its on igntion 

Edit: oh snap it is! and i just saw you recommended it on ssl aswell and your ratings (intermediate). Seems like if you are a begginer heaven aint the place for you.
