Rocksmiths future with ubisoft in decline ( future proofing Rocksmith)

Im not sure how this all works but rocksmith 2014 remastered is my main source for learning guitar so im concerned it will one day not be available. i play through steam (no disc) and have a ubisoft account. Would buying the disc version be a good idea incase its pulled from steam or ubisoft go bust. Can you even get the dic version? Done a bit of googling all i can find is standard rocksmith 2014 and seems really expensive! Am i worrying over nothing?

As long as Ubisoft doesn't pull it from the store, the terms state that you "own" the game until death. Ubisoft said get comfortable not owning games. Ubi also states that they can change their agreement at any time. Steam also states the same thing. There is no guarantee that the game will work with future Windows operating systems.

The PC disc version is basically utterly useless, except for the fact it would give someone access to the licensed content from the Remastered version. There are a couple copies still floating around out there. All the disc did was force you to install Steam. It is not a game on the disc, not a stand-alone installer, or anything like a console disc. The boxed copy provided a user license key in analog form. That is it.

Buying a console, buying a console disc would PARTIALLY give you what you are looking for, however the use of CDLC would be nearly impossible. DLC is non-transferable across platforms, PlayStation 3 store is closed, PlayStation 4 leaves you with the inability to use CDLC. I have not researched Xbox.

No, it is a legitimate thought, a legitimate concern. Someday it will occur when Windows 11 hits its end of life cycle. I have to assume since

1) there is still 7 years of DLC left 2) Learn and Play was released, Ubisoft has no immediate plans of immediately killing off Rocksmith2014. Would they rather us pay for a subscription, as they do not wish for us to own games anymore? Yes.

 

You can build a budget pc, install Steam, Rocksmith, all of your DLC, all of your CDLC and disconnect it from the internet, back it up with a clone of your drive, and play in offline mode. As long as it never updates, or your machine never dies, you can use it as a Rocksmith console. That is the best advice I can give you.

As long as it never updates, or your machine never dies, you can use it as a Rocksmith console. That is the best advice I can give you.

Thanks for the insight my laptops old and been thinking of new laptop/pc so i might do the the rocksmith console thing. cheers
