  1. I have a couple of questions regarding warnings in EoF: 1) Can there be an option for disabling the DD-related warnings? I know there are a decent number of charters who don't bother with making DD, and getting warnings every time you save for things that aren't ever relevant to your project might be annoying. 2) This one is also a question for other charters, regarding the warning for slides above the 22nd fret. I get warnings for this quite a lot, but I've pretty much always ignored them and have never had any problems with these slides in game, or had any people complain about my CDLC crashing their game or anything like that. Am I an exception for some reason, or is this an outdated warning? I could have seen this causing problems if FHP weren't restricted to be 21st fret or below, but I don't think I've ever seen auto-generated FHP go above 21 for these cases (at least recently).
  2. @@iminashi - I know there have sometimes been problems with sections working correctly if there is not a note on the first beat of the section (particularly if it's the first section of the song). You can change this without affecting the song by placing a ghost note (which doesn't display in game) on the first beat of the section. @@Chlipouni may be able to offer more specific advice. As for the play counter, I'd guess it has something to do with reaching the "end phrase" of a song or something like that, but that's pretty much purely speculation.
  3. @@PC Plum - You definitely can (or at least could) do slides like that, see this example by Berneer. It's not exactly the same thing, but you should be able to do slides like that. My problem is that EoF is refusing to export it as a slide at all, because it probably thinks I'm using a slide down technique but not actually sliding down. The second paragraph of my post relates to how these slides tend to interact with linknext. That may or may not be something that can be easily done in EoF, but my guess is it's something that Rocksmith can do, but might not be worth figuring out what needs to be done in the XML to enable it. Put another way, EoF doesn't (I just checked) have a problem with the second chord slide in the image, though the resulting chord slide probably won't display correctly.
  4. @@raynebc - One song that I'm working on has one section where there are several slides between major and minor third handshapes. When I try to do it in EoF, I get a warning saying that the slide isn't defined correctly. This warning happened when the slides were defined as shown, and when both slides were defined using tech notes when the "main slide" was both absent and present. I don't really get what the program wants from me, as these slides seem very similar to what Berneer uses in the tech notes tutorial. This is using the most recent version of EoF. Edit: After thinking about it a tiny bit more, it might think I'm trying to slide down to a note that's above the base position, i.e. for slide tech notes it's still considering the chord as a whole rather than each string individually. On a related note, in another custom I remember having problems with how a slide somewhat similar to this displayed in another custom. The slide was from a major 7th to an octave (so only the one finger moves), which then sustains fora long time. Rather than displaying as a short slide and then a long sustain, it displayed as a long slow slide with the sustained note overlaying it (i.e. there were two notes displaying on the same string simultaneously). I don't have screenshots of it and have since changed the project file, but I should be able to recreate it without too much trouble. I think this was using one of the versions that we had for a long time, shortly after the release candidate version. On a different note, I've noticed there are some pretty standard chords that don't have fingerings automatically done in EoF. I realize that I can define the handshapes for new chords myself, but some of these I figure are universal enough that it makes more sense to fix on your end. I could try to come up with a more exhaustive list, but the most pressing one in my mind are octave chords that use the B or e strings, so there's a three fret gap instead of two. I think another pretty common one I noticed having to fill fingerings for was Em shape barre chords.
  5. @@manchot66 - I think this intentional, and a pretty common way of dealing with backups. If you want to use them (on Windows 10), there's an option in the File Explorer somewhere for "Hide extensions for known file types" (I found this quite easily by going to "Settings" then searching for "Extension"). If you uncheck that, you can then change the file extension from .bak to .eof and things will work.
  6. @@firekorn - What do you mean by "won't be able to put any usable sustain on it"? I don't really understand why that would be the case for something like this. It also would be nice if you could remember any specific examples. Or even roughly when you were working on that particular Eric Calderone song to help narrow down which ones I should try looking at more closely.
  7. A song I've been working on has a (fretless) bass track where a tap is used to generate a harmonic, then the note is slid up and down to manipulate it while it sustains. There's not an obvious way to chart these in Rocksmith, so I was wondering whether anyone else has a solution that both -Clearly indicates the technique to be used -If executed properly, does not result in misses (and if executed improperly, results in misses, I guess)j. My idea for doing this at the moment is something like a muted tap note where the tap should be done, then a quick pulloff to the main note, which then slides up and down as usual, but these notes all will have harmonic status. The problem I see with this is the notes with harmonic status might not detect in Rocksmith depending on what the game "expects" to see from e.g. an 8th fret note with harmonic status. If the note detection fails when I try testing this, my next step would probably be to put "Ignore" status on the harmonic notes. With that, I have a couple of questions. First, does anyone know of other successful attempts at charting tap harmonics? Second (which could be obviated by responses to the first), if you know what tap harmonics are, do you think you could figure out what was being asked of you in the way I proposed?
  8. @@Elchafr - If you want to see the songs with only bass available, make sure the "Parts" column is viewable and click to sort by that. The first 64 pages should include songs that are bass only or bass and vocals only. While you're sorting by parts I don't think you can do a secondary sort (e.g. by date uploaded or band name), though, which makes this somewhat less useful unless you want to go through the whole thing.
  9. I think I've had a comment or two that's disappeared into the void (clicking the post button goes through like normal, but the comment just never appears). I forget which one it was, but I definitely had a response to something that someone asked about that took a couple of tries to appear. Some others that didn't go through (I definitely tried posting a response on ...of Melancholy Burning, but it didn't go through. One thing that may work is to try posting via the forum topics rather than the record pages, but those can be much harder to find unless the DLC was recently posted or commented on.
  10. My guess would be that it's related to the measures (like measure 9 in the image) that have more notes (total duration, 9 eighth notes) than makes sense for the time signature. Don't know why that would manifest at measure 59, but that's the first thing I'd look into. Fixing those either via grace notes or by changing the whole note to some tie with a total value of 7 eighth notes.
  11. With the sync, you should try to make each note in Rocksmith as close to in sync with the note in the audio as possible. So you should probably put a little bit of extra space between the beats where the shift occurs. For sectioning, the reason why there should be sections is so that people can practice the song. Sections control the regions you can select during riff repeater. If you're a beginner who wants to learn the song, having DD can be nice, but in my experience RR is much more effective for learning things and practicing specific things. For the tone change, yeah, before and after the solo you'll need to put a tone change. Say to "Lead" (or something similar, perhaps more specific) at the start of the solo, then back to "Distortion" (or something) at the end of the solo. Then you'll need to set the Distortion tone to the default so it's started at the start of the song. My guess is the lead could be boosted (more negative) by a dB or a bit more, and/or maybe some EQing.
  12. OK, I haven't played all paths, but I just played lead, and here are my comments 1) Sync seemed OK. Not perfect, but pretty close and pretty consistent. The notes lead the audio by a little bit throughout most of the song. In EoF it looks like something like 1/20th of a second early in most places, with some places stretching out close to 1/10th of a second. 2) There should be palm mutes on most (or maybe even all) of the single notes on the A string. The easy way to do this is in EoF, select a note, press Shift+L to select all such notes (up to techniques) in the track, then press Ctrl+M to mute them. Do this for 0s, 2s, 5s, and 7s, then I think you're done, and I don't think there were any exceptions that would be unmuted. 3) Early in the solo there were a few harmonics with bends. This isn't really possible, which is annoying. It might be played as a pinch harmonic, it's also possible the "bends" are done by the whammy bar, in which case it's better to leave it as a plain harmonic (no other techniques) or with vibrato (which may hint people in to the whammy bar). 4) Some of the riffs with power chords I felt would be easier making use of other strings rather than shifting up and down the fretboard so much. It's playable as is, and this is mostly a preference thing, though. 5) There should be a lot more sections. Don't trust GP files to do them well. Right click on the beat where a section should start (should be the beginning of a measure and generally the beginning of a phrase), then press Ctrl+Shift+S to open up the section menu, and make sure the checkbox for adding phrases at the same location when you add it. If you want to do it mindlessly, usually doing every 8 measures outside of solos and every 4 measures inside solos works pretty well. 6) Lead guitar has the bonus arrangement box checked in the toolkit. This is why I could play it despite it being Xed out in game. You can use bonus or alternative arrangements, but you should always make sure that the highest one for that path in the toolkit doesn't have the bonus box checked or it will appear to be unavailable. 7) The tone was maybe a little quiet for the solo. Might be good to have a tone switch for that. Also, I looked and it seems like one of the GP files has bass tabs. Is there a reason you aren't including it?
  13. Definitely a band that deserves more love on here. I'll be happy to test things when they're ready (I'll try to check out Black Wings of Death when I get home) and offer advice.
  14. Usually this happens if you've added leading silence to the audio after generating the .wem file (or maybe used a different file to make the audio). Is it possible this is the case? If you're not sure, just delete the .wem from the folder and generate the .psarc with the guitar.ogg file, which should be what's being used in EoF.
  15. @ - First, with John the Fisherman, there's nothing "wrong" with playing power chords on bass. I tend not to make too many normative judgments about things in music, where many things are always down to taste (though you argue that having multiple notes ringing out on bass doesn't often sound very pleasing). My point was that if we are talking about whether a technique is "something usable", I think you would struggle to come up with more than a few songs where playing full power chords (as opposed to double stops) quickly with your fingers is essential to the song. And I don't think it's BS to say that you should play what you enjoy. I wholeheartedly agree. But when you say there's not "something usable" in a song that hits most guitar techniques other than tapping and bends, that is BS. You could say that practicing those techniques in this song is not the most efficient use of your time, or not fun for you, both of which might certainly be true. But I don't think you can honestly argue that there's nothing in a song that, in a song that you acknowledge has so many different parts (which I personally like in a challenging song, as there are many different places you can improve, rather than there being little difficulty other than the solo), there's absolutely nothing that would improve your own playing by practicing it. Maybe I'm taking things more personally than I should, but this is the second selection of mine in a row that you've taken the time to slag in the forums. And given that you were the person who was most interested in getting the quality thing going and supplied the majority of the quality ratings, the fact that you've taken the time to attack my customs rather than the ADM (you did note the sync problems, but IMO it was poor enough quality it should have been removed or not been selected), or other older songs like the abomination of a clusterf*** that was the Steve Vai Christmas song (you were freebirding then, so you may not have played it, and it's no longer online. I might still have it if you want to see it, though) does feel kind of personal. @@NoonyDeloony - I hate to break it to you, but that's not the MC bass song.
  16. There's a difference between "this song doesn't really click with me" and "this song offers nothing and doesn't belong in the championship. I can respect the former position, but I can't really respect the latter.
  17. It's mostly thrash. There are some black metal influences (primarily in the vocals, but also in some of the tremolo picked passages), but like I said, it's still mostly thrash. I know it's not your favorite genre nowadays, but you didn't complain about Megadeth or Austrian Death Machine (which also has harsh vocals, though of a significantly different style. Well, you didn't complain except about the sync being bad and notes randomly being dropped.). God forbid some of the top tier guys in MC lead get challenged every so often, rather than just getting to show off. I think that's total BS, and I think you know it is too. Are playing chords, slides, shifting quickly, playing arpeggios, and things like that totally irrelevant to what you play? Do you only fingerpick open strings, or only tap or something? And what exactly does someone like you get out of playing something like the ADM song, other than getting the opportunity to show off? I'm also going to point out that you chose John the Fisherman a while back, which to me is pretty much the epitome of irrelevant skills (at least on bass). Cool. Next time maybe if you don't like a song you can just not play it rather than stepping up to the podium.
  18. @@TheDeathryder - Using OBS you can set something up that's similar to what you get with Bandicam (though it's way more flexible, so you can do lots of other stuff, too). I'm making my way over to OBS from Bandicam but haven't fully migrated yet. Edit: But greater flexibility also means it's a bit harder to set up. Look up tutorials on youtube or elsewhere.
  19. Added an update version of Tetrastructural Minds to the download folder. I'll wait for feedback before updating the record and making it official. Clean tone was changed, I think it fits a little better and is less overpowering, but I'm still not entirely happy with it, so help is still welcome. The riff after the clean section (it comes one time earlier in the song, but I guess that's the easiest way to identify it) I changed the slide a little bit to be more like how they play it and not just slide to some awkward place in the middle of the transition. Also added a decent number of handshapes throughout the song. Fixed the bad FHP (where I guess I typed "1" instead of "11"), changed the harmonic to a pinch since it seems to get bent a little, and a few other miscellaneous fixes. Lastly, made some progress on lead when testing it: http://i.imgur.com/49WfwHp.jpg
  20. And after some practice: http://i.imgur.com/LGaB3aw.jpg At this point I think the only thing that's out of my league with practice is the stuff under the clean part of the solo, where the picking pattern seems pretty random to me. Might look at the tab and break that down out of the game. Otherwise, things are fast, chords are mostly unusual, and your fingers are flying, but I can at least imagine myself playing it. Also, the clean tone could probably use replacing, and maybe some of the others. @@Nacholede (or others), do you have any recommendations for that? And a go on lead: http://i.imgur.com/w7QcO5Z.jpg A few places where I mess up on things where I'm used to what's on the rhythm path (and/or haven't practiced the lead one, or if I have not nearly as much). Solo's tough but it should be something I can improve significantly on with enough practice. I obviously screwed up an FHP placement in the solo, I'll fix that soon. Also not sure whether the harmonic in the solo should be natural or pinch. Might also be a few more places I add handshapes or arpeggios (not just in the solo). For rhythm I think I also want to add palm mutes and change the later instances of the "chorus" riff which are different from the earlier ones.
  21. @@Mortalo - They have different "DLC Key" names and should coexist (and do for me in Rocksmith). I usually play the E versions since I have heavy-ish strings on my guitar and bass and don't want to mess with my strings or neck too much. The F version is there because that's how they actually play, but it's probably only really useful for people with tuning pedals or hardcore fans of the band, because there's not much other than Vektor that you can play in that tuning.
  22. I may have practiced this some in the process of making it: http://i.imgur.com/EsiqCMl.jpg Also, why does it say fingered? When I look in learn a song, it says picked (as it should be, hopefully obviously, and as I've checked it in the toolkit), but in score attack (both before and after) it says fingered. I think I also noticed this in the screenshots from last week, where I thought people might have other versions because it said fingered before I realized we were both in the same leaderboard and mine also said fingered after score attack. Anyway, I noticed that the E std version somehow got a DLC name of only "Vektor" so to ward off potential problems I replaced it in the download folder with a more unique DLC name. Lastly, here's my sightread of rhythm: http://i.imgur.com/nBrCciH.jpgDem chords and arpeggios, man.
  23. Oh boy. MC will be interesting this week. I'm interested to see how people handle the guitars. Not sure how much time I'll have to learn the guitars, but I hope I can find a few hours to sink into it.
  24. I know this doesn't count, but here's a score on a version where I increased the initial offset by 20 ms. No other changes (except maybe scroll speed). Not 100% sure if it's a "problem" with the sync, but when I looked at it in EOF the notes did look like they tended to come a little bit earlier than the beats (earlier than I sync personally, but also earlier relative to what I've seen when I look at official songs). This kind of highlights why I don't really care about score battles. It often becomes more about how well Rocksmith is set up on your computer than your musicianship (try to find me on the leaderboard for Black Magic!). Anyway, @, bring it on when we have a song that's actually MC difficulty.
  25. @ - Hate to rain on your parade, but you're going to need to do better. http://i.imgur.com/pRSYz8t.jpg You too, @. Though honestly you're pretty close and if you beat this I'm not sure I care enough to get into a score war. Or have enough time, really.
