  1. Not entirely sure what you're talking about. When you say "show up and work perfectly", do you mean in game, i.e. that the 5-7-7 and 3-5-5 chords don't show up when you play the game, but the other stuff on the orange string does? If so, it's probably because they're marked as ghost notes (not sure how RS handles them, but anyway). I usually just handle ghost notes by converting them to normal notes via Ctrl+A -> Note (dropdown menu) -> Pro Guitar -> Remove Ghost. (also, in terms of fretboard logic, it probably makes sense to move the 9-9-9 chords up a string to 2-4-4)
  2. I was actually just thinking Flash of the Blade has a pretty cool bassline and started looking around for tabs yesterday... Good to know others were thinking similarly! (And Back in the Village is also awesome. Duellists is really good too. Powerslave is probably my favorite Maiden album, though it has stiff competition from Seventh Son. I love every single song on both of those albums)
  3. What tech death is on here beyond (what I remember seeing) lots of Death, an Atheist song, a Blotted Science song, a Cynic song, and a Quo Vadis song? Honestly curious, as it's a genre I like and it would always be nice to have a few more pipe dream songs.
  4. Yeah, between Takin' Care of Business and You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet BTO has been vastly overplayed in the US. Haven't watched standard (i.e. non-streamed) TV in a while, so I don't have it as bad as some others, but it's still pretty bad.
  5. Why I know @@then3verend will beat me this week: http://i.imgur.com/iZlwFUq.jpg Way better than my previous best (1,312 something) but still far behind. Plucked everything with my index as that seemed to yield somewhat more consistent results with the timing of the notes. I imagine a pick would be even better, but I'm still too lazy to get a good pick.
  6. Int bass: Honestly more fun to play than I was expecting. http://i.imgur.com/TZoBhII.jpg Adv bass: Nearly messed up the first fill, and for some reason the beginning of the last chorus, but still managed 100%. http://i.imgur.com/d8RJxPY.jpg MC Bass: A lot of fun to play, and the Rocksmith gods were kind during some of the latter parts of the song. Looks like I'm not going to have to do it until I'm unconscio. Just a matter of time until someone out-rhythms me, probably, but at least this one doesn't have tons of repeated notes (which is usually where I get far away from perfects). http://i.imgur.com/13q9DF1.jpg Video:
  7. Pretty good run, but a couple of the misses were really silly. Should be able to 100% it with more RR and familiarity with the song, though I'm not sure I'll have the time to do that. http://i.imgur.com/FEWH8ZX.jpg
  8. @@then3verend - as a distance runner, I know all about humidity. I've done some reasonably comfortable (as in, I could go 2+ hours at a good effort up and down a mountain and feel like I could do more afterward) runs in 100 degree weather (in California), and I've done some miserable runs in 90 degrees and humidity in the east where even when I've been in shape all I could manage was 40 minutes at a laughably slow pace, and even the thought of doing any more was out of the question. At this point, at least when it comes to running, pretty much the only things I really care about when running in the summer are the dew point and how sunny it is (maybe because the actual temperature doesn't vary that much. I'm sure I'd notice a difference between the Persian gulf and the northeast). @@Latsch - Nice job! I'll see if I can muster up a better effort over the remaining time. If I surpass you I suppose I might even try for the lead, though I suspect that will be a losing battle.
  9. Seriously... While there have already been some quite solid releases so far this year, there's a lot of stuff I'm looking forward to in the remainder of this year, plus a lot of bands that I've been hearing of entering the studio recently. And hopefully bands that I've never heard of striking gold. Oh, and by the way, how in the hell did you break a bass string? I guess it might have been weakened by your tuning up a step for Orion, particularly if they were heavy gauge (I think in sets based off the "standard" (.45-.65-.85-.105) gauge D strings tend to be pretty tight, in particular). Speaking of strings, I just got a set of Kalium strings for my 6 string, going .031-.045-.061-.082-.112-.150, and I'm liking them so far, though having the B string be about as tight as the rest feels a bit weird for now. I think it will make drop A and such tunings much more feasible as well, in case I ever feel like playing some Alex Webster stuff (I'm not a huge fan of Cannibal Corpse, but Blotted Science is the shit). Anyway, they did pretty well for Sweet Home Chicago. http://i.imgur.com/BmKnlGn.jpg My playing also sounded much less like a dying cat than my first few attempts, so I guess that's a good sign. And last but not least, happy birthday, @@Nacholede! I hope it's a good one (I guess the Maiden news helps)!
  10. Wow...either they had most of this done(minus the vocals)...or they belted out an album in a month...OR its not Bruce on the vocals(which i doubt)... I'm just glad I might get a chance to finally see Maiden On their webpage they say "It was recorded in Paris with their longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley in late 2014, with the finishing touches added earlier this year. However, the band decided to delay its release so that vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who was recently given the all-clear from a tumour, would have time to recuperate sufficiently to join in the preparations for the album’s launch." So don't worry. P.S. It's 92 minutes including an 18 minute track :o
  11. My attempts at things so far: Beg: Missed a slide, I think. http://i.imgur.com/guHhjb1.jpg Int: http://i.imgur.com/nn6vxct.jpg Adv: Got surprised by the "widdley" part http://i.imgur.com/jTKQu05.jpg MC: I (still) suck at things that change strings and fret hand position a lot. I think the small slides kind of throw me off as well. http://i.imgur.com/Tto6QD7.jpg
  12. There was an extra sale on Rocksmith a few days back so it went down to 40% off. There probably will be an encore in a few days at the end of the sale, so I'd recommend waiting for that. In other news, I should finally get around to submitting a score today. I tried the MC song once already, and I can say pretty confidently that I won't be winning this week. These types of basslines don't play to my strengths at all, though I guess that's cool as it means I have more to learn from this one than most 8 ratings.
  13. I think there are also a few Dissection songs. The above replies hit most of the other bands I remember seeing. And black metal isn't my favorite sub-genre, but I'd definitely be down for doing some CDLC eventually. (Side note - why the fuck is there no Emperor?)
  14. Out of power as in there's a power outage due to the thunderstorms yesterday? Because there was some pretty epic lightning and rain yesterday afternoon (while driving) and night (after reaching my destination), which included a tornado watch (pretty much unheard of in northern New England). Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised at all if those storms knocked out power in a bunch of places. Anyway, I hope it's resolved soon! @@storm20200 - I hope your hand feels better soon!
  15. Thought about saving this for late Saturday morning, but decided not to be an asshole. Probably won't be good enough to last, but it's good enough for the lead right now. And at the very least, the streak will be pretty tough to beat without acing the tapping. http://i.imgur.com/Rzs2gJJ.jpg Video:
  16. Looks like I'll be picked up around 2:30, so I'll try a few more times, but I think my right hand is nearing its limit. Had a (pretty legit) 99.57 (which actually was probably better than my current score. I guess I have a video, but I don't care that much) and a (totally fucked) 99.38. Had a run that was going really well a few minutes ago before my right hand decided it had had enough at the tapping section. Hopefully this break will give it enough time to recover for one last glorious run.
  17. Since I see @@then3verend lurking, a small update: Hands are mostly good. Left is feeling slightly weak for the trills (not sure what else to call them, though the notes are pretty far apart) in the verse, which have led to some unusual misses, but otherwise I'm good to go. Had a 99.57 and a 99.47 ruined by last chorus BS (well, slightly more than last chorus for the latter). One of these times, Rocksmith will feel forgiving... right?
  18. @@Nacholede - You know what to do. My hands aren't quite at 100% tonight, but tomorrow morning I'll be doing everything I can, and I know I'm ready provided Rocksmith shows me just a little love. Edit: Looks like I actually have until 2 or so...
  19. Unfortunately, I only really have through tomorrow morning, but yeah, there's still time. I just can't help but feel that that was the take. While I had (I think) 3 misses after the first chorus, there's not going to be too many times that I end up with only 3 misses across the three harder sections, so it feels like I squandered what was a great opportunity. But yeah, muscle memory/practice is definitely starting to kick in. I'm starting to feel almost in control on the first fast part (before the verse riff first appears), which I can't say I'd have expected going into this week. I'd have expected to get better at it, but at full speed to still have to resort to the "flop my fingers randomly against the fretboard really fast and hope things work out" strategy. Still having trouble with the one after the first chorus for some reason, though. Might have to consider how I fret things going into and out of that more carefully, as I can hit 100% on that in isolation nearly every time, but things seem to go to shit in the context of the song. And the tapping..., well, I still find it hard enough to keep track of the positions and timing of both of my hands for more complicated passages, but I think I'm slowly getting better at it. Probably going to do more CDLC 2 Tab in the future for harder tapping sections so I can really slow things down and get everything straight in my head, which I feel is much easier with a tab than in Rocksmith.
  20. http://i.imgur.com/5Eqonrr.jpg Video: Imagine my surprise when I reach the end of the tapping section with an x99. Imagine my fury when Rocksmith decides to exclaim "Fuck you!" during the last chorus and gives me a miss. Imagine my feeling of resignation when I realize that it was not one, but two misses, without which I would have gotten the lead on streak. Imagine me going to sleep and trying again tomorrow, provided that my hands haven't been mangled by all my playing today.
  21. Not a better accuracy score, but I want to make sure @@then3verend doesn't become afraid if he checks out the in-game leaderboard. http://i.imgur.com/fe2gdP8.jpg The good news is I only missed in three places - the fast legato sections before the verse riff first comes in, after the first chorus, and the tapping section, and I feel pretty good about maintaining that accuracy outside of those sections (except maybe the slide down right before the first chorus). The bad news is I missed lots at each of those sections. In the video I made earlier missed 1, 1, and 3 notes in those three sections, so if I can get lucky/learn those sections better I should be in business. Only problem is it's really hard in real time to tell how many misses I get on those sections (unless they go catastrophically bad and my multiplier goes below the most recent checkpoint), which makes it harder to know if I should restart or not. Wish I could say I could master these sections, but the only one I feel like I have the skill to master in the next few days is the one after the chorus. The one before the first verse is early enough I suppose I could keep trying it until I make it through without a miss, which would probably be the most surefire way to make sure I didn't miss 5 notes without realizing it. Feel like I need to practice it more before that's a good use of my time, though.
  22. This may sound weird, but maybe you need to try going a bit slower, at least for a bit. While I certainly spend more time at the faster speeds in RR, I feel like the slower speeds are probably more important in terms of understanding and deconstructing the riffs and figuring out how I'll attack them at faster speeds (which is why I really appreciate customs that have lots of sections, as otherwise I tend to get impatient sitting through stuff at 50% speed that I already know I can do. This makes score attack much harder, but I think I've found a workaround by making lots of sections in a bonus arrangement while the main arrangement has relatively few). Anyway, here's an example of me working on a riff on one of my customs that's within my technical abilities (neither hand has to go at ridiculous speeds, it doesn't require crazy long legato, or tapping, or slap and pop, a totally flummoxing plucking pattern, or something like that), but still quite tricky at full speed. For something I'd need a new (or improved) technique for, I'd do much more practice at slow speeds, like I mentioned doing for that one section of the Orion solo last week. Anyway, I tried to put some commentary into the video description so you can follow along with what I'm trying to do at different points in the video. I probably should just get a decent webcam at some point so I can do it verbally and you can actually see me trying out different things at 50% speed.
  23. If we can involve other people in the state, can I invite Mike Lepond over? Or maybe Romeo I will take a shot at MC lead.
  24. @@2groggy - I think you can make do with trying to play songs at practically any skill level (though trying stuff way beyond your skill level probably is more frustrating than useful) 1) Play stuff that I'd call "below my skill level" in Rocksmith and record myself. I've done it straight through the Realtone cable into Audacity, but it would probably be better with more and better recording equipment. Anyway, the goal is to not just hit the notes (which is basically what Rocksmith gets) but to also try to get right on rhythm while sounding right in terms of sustains, syncopation, and so on. An example of this that I've done is here (this is pretty much raw - I didn't use the compressor or EQ or anything). The song is one that I can pretty much 100% on command in Rocksmith, but you'll notice there are many places throughout where I don't sound good for various reasons, and this was my best recording after a few tries (done ~3 weeks ago, I think). 2) Play stuff that's a little beyond my skill level, or at a reasonably high skill level that I'm very unfamiliar with. This is basically the part of being in masterclass that happens behind the curtain. You see our screenshots and our playthrough videos, but you don't see the hours that we put into riff repeater so that we don't feel like we're embarrassing ourselves. I mentioned this last week with Orion, how for a single section of the bass solo I probably riff repeated at least 100 times starting from an incredibly slow speed before I felt like I could nail it whenever it comes. The fill shortly after the 40s mark in my video above was similar. Same goes for the tapping section after 2:40 (though I can't nail these on command yet). It's definitely less enjoyable (and probably not feasible time-wise) if you feel like you have to do it for the whole damn song, but there's nothing wrong with just picking a few sections out and working on them in RR and gradually increasing the maximum speed that you can comfortably play them at, even if you never get up to 100% speed.
  25. I think many of the string manufacturers sell single strings. For example, D'addario has some here (at least for one of their string types, you'll have to click around for others), Kalium has some here (this page has around the .01 range), and I'm sure the others have similar things but I'm too lazy to look for all of them.
