  1. First tries: This feels like it should be played with a pick...I'll give it another shot: Trickier than it first appears...I enjoyed playing it but the score wasn't quite what I hoped for:
  2. I agree, the original rules seem to be partly outdated and are hard to understand. I'm now helping manage the song selection list so I can help you with that part: you can ignore most of what the rules say about how songs are chosen. As far as I understand, there is a small rotation of forum members who choose the songs each week by some combination of making their own choices however they want, making their own choices based on a theme (a recent one was outlaws), choosing randomly from the song selection list (the "Song Selection List" tab in the spreadsheet), and repeating an older week of the championship (week 62 was a recent example). Yes, the spreadsheet is messy, but you can ignore all of it except the SSL tab. Anyone is welcome to add songs, I've just added some myself, and the more you add the better your chances of having one chosen. If a link is broken, it's still easy enough to find a song on Ignition search.
  3. I am in favor of announcing the winners of the bonus paths when we have them, absolutely.
  4. @Orkkongen No worries, I'm over it. Though it would be good to have some clarity on the deadline. I only had time for one go this week:
  5. I'll gladly give credit to @Orkkongenfor his dedication and persistence, but at the very least I would appreciate some clarification on the deadline for posting scores. Two weeks in a row @Orkkongen posted scores that leapfrogged mine at the last possible moment, and this week I believe it was after 7pm CET, which I thought was the deadline. I mean, it's one thing to play a song 7, 8, 9 times to get your scores better, but it's another thing to post those scores at the last moment when it's not possible for others to improve their own scores. I don't really care to compete against that, it won't be enjoyable for me, so unless we can tighten up the rules I'd rather just move up to Advanced and take my losses fair and square.
  6. Not as much time to play this week (still haven't gotten around to AJFA) but I'm reasonably happy with my scores: I'm a big Silversun Pickups fan so enjoyed this one, and it was a nice benchmark to hear only my bass and have it still sound good: One of the better NW tracks IMO: And Arctic Monkeys songs are fun to play on bass - this one has a really nice groove:
  7. Thanks man. I've got some time tomorrow (Thursday) that I could use to try organizing the song selection sheet. Is there a do/don't list somewhere handy so I know what I should or shouldn't do? I don't know how you guys use the sheet when you're setting up each week and there are lots of tabs etc. so I just want to make sure I can actually help and not create more problems. Feel free to PM me with any instructions or things to focus on and then I can take a stab tomorrow.
  8. Beginner: Weezer - Say It Ain't So (3) Intermediate: We Are Scientists - Cash Cow (4)
  9. Well since "60ish" is not "377" (the week we played Future People and Black Magic) I think it's safe to assume this was an error. Bass players, please use Say It Ain't So as beginner (I'd rate it a 3) and Cash Cow as Intermediate (maybe 4.5): A big "meh" to this one for me - I deleted it after playing:
  10. Thanks for this, I'm willing to help out with some of these items but I'm limited given that I play bass only and am a relative noob at even that. My issue this week is just that the beginner and intermediate bass tracks are repeats from literally 3 weeks ago and that just seems like a mistake. Am I missing something here? Also, what does "Da Capo" signify?
  11. Since @Gamut is not responding I'm just going ahead with the assumption that the beginner and intermediate bass tracks should be Say It Ain't So and Cash Cow.
  12. Say It Ain't So ODLC and Cash Cow CDLC both have bass parts, so I'm thinking this was just a copy/paste error or something. Also, I'd be interested in nominating future songs for the Championship if there is a mechanism for doing so.
  13. Is this a mistake? These were the Week 377 beginner and intermediate songs.
  14. This brought a smile to my face. My first little "performance" for my wife and kids a few months ago after I started playing seriously was a playthrough of the entire Dark Side of the Moon album. I know this groove well so it didn't feel as stressful as advanced level songs usually do:
  15. I'm not sure which one is over/undertiered but these felt like a very similar level of difficulty on bass (I enjoyed both in any case): Also I'm enthused to try AJFA full album at some point.
  16. Volbeat is amazing...one of my favorite bands. If you want to listen to more, I recommend you start with Beyond Hell/Above Heaven (2010 album) and then listen to all their stuff after that. And of course a ton of their stuff is CDLC and some ODLC as well.
  17. My tuning on the A string was a bit off so I dropped a note or two near the end. Always down for more Alabama Shakes in the challenge though, and the official DLC pack is quite fun as well: The intermediate and advanced songs were both fun and never really frustrating for me, though the solo part on God Knows... was tricky.
  18. Twist and Shout has a relatively simple bass chart and sits on the same part of the fretboard for most of the song...but the note density combined with 4-to-7 stretching makes it tricky to play cleanly. I wouldn't call this one easier to play, but the whole middle section of the song is straightforward by Steve Harris standards: And Californication is very middle of the pack for me as a RHCP song to listen to but damn did I have a great time playing it...will enjoy mastering it eventually: I haven't decided if I'm brave enough to try Octavarium...
  19. AC/DC is a giant "meh" for me, especially as an aspiring bassist: I was enthused at the beginning of this, a little fatigued by the end:
  20. Similar story for dreddfoxx? His charts have all disappeared from ignition except one, but oddly his website is down too. Fortunately I had already dl'ed most of his stuff.
  21. I didn't score as high as I thought I did on this but it's definitely not a 7.5 IMO - more of a 6 or maybe between 6 and 7...beautiful song though:
