  1. Truly staggering for the patience and diligence required to build a freaking guitar with no prior woodworking experience. Scrolling through your posts I felt your pain but was also very impressed. Well done!
  2. Such a fun movie, I highly recommend it too! It really captures what a positive and life-changing force music can be.
  3. I believe the rules are that you can take the win if you agree to level up to intermediate? Sorry I meant to include that in the OP. I can adjust if you decide to move up.
  4. A couple notes here: - "Save Your Tears" is technically a lead path in RS but is more of a rhythm part so for Championship purposes the lead path is considered rhythm - "Deliverance" is not quite "God of" worthy in difficulty, at least on bass, but it's long (over 13 mins) and challenging enough that I decided to put it in as GoG/GoR/GoB for two weeks. Opeth and @ albatross213 are always a worthy combination to include in the Championship IMO.

  6. Hi All - I'll be posting the new week this evening US time (midnight or later GMT) so you have some extra time to get your scores in.
  7. Fun little song from a unique band...I think it's technically higher than a 3 difficulty for the fast strumming bits at the end especially if you are finger picking it: I'm a Prince admirer and I like this song but the bass chart is mostly rather boring to play: And this is a prog classic:
  8. First tries this week: A7X has really grown on me over the years: Not a big IF fan, but this is solid and I will always be willing to play a chart from @ firekorn I'm so close to mastering this one, no issues with the octaves but that 7-10 fret pinky stretch is not picking up consistently for me in RS: Haken has some good stuff but it's just a bit above my level. Nonintuitive rhythms but overall not too bad for a first run:
  9. Nice (and heavy) week - thanks @ Mikson I had several of these in my collection but the two beginner tracks on bass are the only ones I've played. Glad you enjoyed A7X Acid Rain, I agree it's a great track to listen to.
  10. I'm still in a daze from playing through Dopesmoker last night... And made some improvements on Sweet Leaf:
  11. Opening runs at the epic Advanced and Masterclass offerings this week. First, intermediate...unfortunately this otherwise solid bass chart is somewhat ruined by going off sync the second half of the song. It's possible to play it correctly but it's off sync enough that it doesn't sound or feel right: Sweet Leaf is relatively straightforward but Geezer makes up for it during the solo section: And one of the all-time great prog epics from Maiden...tricky for me as I prefer to play chords with a pick but arpeggios/fast alternating strings with fingers. I stuck with a pick and it worked reasonably well: I'm hoping to carve out time for Dopesmoker this week but we'll see. I'm fairly certain I can get my Sweet Leaf score up with practice.
  12. Good choices! A comment though: I have always found the @ Nacholede versions of Iron Maiden songs including Seventh Son of a Seventh Son to be superior to the other bass charts (I'm a bassist only so can't speak to the lead/rhythm parts). In this case, his version was created in July 2021 and the previous one was from 2014/15 so I think we should use the more recent and IMO better one. Link
  13. Finally got to Helloween...fun band and a fun song but the fast tempo + frequent movement across strings and frets was a bit much for me at 10:30 pm last night
  14. First runs on beginner and intermediate tracks: This was really nice to play, easy enough to be relaxing but challenging enough to keep my interest:
  15. @ Rodman I think we largely agree, not everything can be wonderful and criticism is good and healthy. When it comes to art though and especially music I very much feel what @ diceslinger expressed, that I may critique but will not insult or call something "bad" that an artist has put their heart and soul into. I know that Incubus is such a band which is why I defend them despite not being a superfan. In any case, criticism can lead to debate which can also be healthy and educational. We are all here to learn and improve which is why this Championship exists
  16. I hear you. I feel like I’ve been on a similar journey…I was sort of a classic rock elitist in high school (AC/DC, KISS, Zeppelin, CCR, ZZ Top) but hadn’t been exposed to a lot of other music. My college years were grunge and post grunge peak so I was obsessed with Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, AiC, etc. Then I went through a period of like 10 years of musical stagnation before I started diving in to different genres and artists. Music streaming services, particularly Spotify, have allowed me to do a lot of exploration and find amazing music of all kinds. Now in the last year and a half as I’ve committed myself as a bassist and joined the RS and CF communities I feel like my tastes are even more diverse and I have a better understanding of nuances and compositions and what makes certain artists great. For example, I was never much of an REM fan until I started learning their songs on bass and now Mike Mills is one of my bass heroes. Like you though, I still don’t quite get the Pixies.
  17. In that case, well done - 98+% is a very strong first score.
