  1. Wow, nice work @ Mikson and @ Rodman to blow past me on Adv bass. I just got too frustrated...felt like the note recognition was bad on the low notes. New week is going up momentarily so that's it for Weed 430 scores!
  2. Hi All - 2 hour warning before I post the next week. Get your final scores in!
  3. A little better but still painful...I might be done for the week:
  4. Not too long ago this seemed like a fun challenge, I guess I've improved (But also it's definitely a 3 not a 2) Also a 3ish, maybe 3.5, fun beginner chart: I would probably rate this as a 3.5-4 but I don't think it qualifies as intermediate by our current standards: ...and then a huge jump to a legit advanced chart. The walking parts are fun but the bulk of the song that sits on the 1-4 frets would be much more playable if it was tuned down to like a C Std or something. Unless you have very long fingers it's just not fun or comfortable to play IMO: And finally a really old school Maiden track from the era when it sounds like Steve Harris' hands were on fire the way he was playing. I honestly prefer his slightly less crazy and substantially more sophisticated and tasteful basslines from mid-late 80s but this is still a good challenge:
  5. Good catch - thanks! I updated the OP to reflect that the GoG track should be Bonus Lead.
  6. A few notes: This is a repeat of week 168, which was the first Championship Week of 2017 and almost exactly 5 years ago. Billy Cobham's challenging Quadrant 4 was only featured as God of Guitar on lead that week (and repeated not too long ago in week 400), but I have included here the rhythm and bass arrangements in advanced class because the rhythm advanced had nothing that week, and the advanced bass song from that week is no longer available. Quadrant 4 and Invaders were both rated as an 8 difficulty so if people feel that Quadrant 4 is more difficult I can switch those two for Adv/MC. There was also no beginner rhythm arrangement that week, and since we haven't had any candidates in beginner rhythm lately I chose to keep it that way. Enjoy the week!

  8. Hi All - I will be posting a new da capo (repeat) week in a few hours so get in your final plays. Good luck!
  9. Since you took the time to respond I tried to listen but the first three were all copyright blocked. I was able to access the Dragon Ball one and...I found it kinda fun actually.
  10. I've always enjoyed the bass on this one: Cool song, good album, but yeah it fits better as a bonus for bass: Classic Killers tune and the most enjoyable bass part overall this week IMO: And yeah, if we rate songs based on their most difficult parts this is definitely an 8 - the first third of the song has some very challenging parts and combine that with some incredibly fast strumming (enough to make me uncomfortable even with a pick) and the 9+ minute length, and I don't think I'll be working to improve this one. I enjoy this band and power metal in general but as a bassist it's not as much my cup of tea: What did I just play? It's a fun chart and it's over before it can get too painful but wow are these vocals grating:
  11. I was able to give this one a good practice. My last attempt I was soooo close to 100% - jusrt one phantom missed note. But I think it's good enough to edge @ diceslinger ?
  12. Congrats to @ Mikson and the other winners! I hope I continue to fly under the radar as a non-threat in the Advanced Bass category. I feel proud of my improvements as I went from beginner when I started in late 2020 to being in the top 2-3 of Advanced almost every week the second half of 2021. I plan to keep pushing to improve this year so we'll see where that leads. Had a bend or two that didn't register here: Good live track: Not the most challenging Steve Harris bassline but still enjoyable: Lots of fun to play...I know the disco era is often mocked as a terrible time for popular music but as a bassist I have to disagree:
  13. Not bad but not good enough to beat @ Rodman . I'll be away from my bass for the weekend so Happy New Year all!
  14. So I have to confess that while I love to listen to Led Zepp I generally find JPJ's basslines more frustrating and nonintuitive and not so enjoyable to learn/practice. Whole Lotta Love might be one of the biggest offenders. It's rhythm guitar basically - repetitive chord changes and not really creating an interesting backbone to the song. And of course there's a huge gap in the middle of the song. I know this was from a previous championship week but I would argue it's not a good choice for bass and certainly not for beginners. Anyway: This on the other hand is a solid intermediate track though it does become a bit repetitive: Not really advanced aside from the fast strumming but reasonably enjoyable to play: And this one is epic - kicked my a$$ but in a good way:
  15. I have some of DreddFoxx's CDLC and made a few of them available already. I'm planning to adopt the rest and post them on ignition at some point but I'm happy to share the folder with you now: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jveKMOeviQj5xi-K9X3A0U5ysq-P268i?usp=sharing No Melvins stuff but I have FNM, Black Sabbath, and some others.
  16. Easy songs with poor slide recognition are my Kryptonite: Better: Best score yet on this one...really fun to play: This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Sabaton songs...so powerful: And I had a 99+% on Frosty the Snowman but got distracted and didn't screenshot it in time...oh well. I think 100% is in reach if I have time to practice it more this week.
  17. Good Masterclass choice...but I think the tapping section bumps it up closer to a 9 than 8. Comparing this as an 8 to New Orleans Is Sinking as a 7 is a very stark contrast:
  18. Meh I like Tragically Hip, at least their 80s-90s stuff, and this is a cool song. Just not advanced level on bass:
  19. Sorry to hear about your work being overwhelming, that's no fun especially at this time of year. Thanks for taking the time to set up the week for us. I have to disagree with you slightly though on difficulty. There is subjectivity in the ratings, but they should always be compared to other weeks/ratings when possible so there is a consistent standard of what constitutes beg/int/adv/mc. Usually the crowdsourcing of scores and comments tells you where the difficulty sits. "New Orleans is Sinking" is a beginner or maybe low intermediate difficulty on bass and you can see this in the scores so far. I scored 100% rather easily on my sight read and I don't think I've ever done that with anything harder than a 5ish difficulty. Anyway, just some food for thought that may be for future reference. This is the risk of selecting your own songs that aren't on the SSL...no one else has tested them to provide input to the ratings. You can always ask one of us in the selections chat to test a song/path if you want a second opinion beforehand. I'm generally available for bass testing. In any case it looks like Advanced bass will be a Score Attack tiebreaker this week which has its own sort of excitement.
