That was fantastic!  Your guitar work is so clean and feels so laid back.  I think you nailed the transposition to put your voice in its best range, no struggling for notes.  You have come a long way my friend!

Ah...thx - yeah - It´s just great how you can gather prof. knowledge these days - [spent hardly an hour watching yt how to record acoustic guitar.. and now i besides placing of different mictypes ttheoretically even now how to - should i ever use a DAW - how to lowpass filter, where to eq raise the mids and hights (lower the lowmids), pan 2 different mics, create rev-tracks of those and pan to the opposite side....(!)] . that helped me to capture the guitarsound a lot like it sounded in the room.

Dice, thx! As the intro is arpeggiowork (sigh) i decIded to first time not to record the guitar line in one go which led to maybe an hour of guitar recording so - a bit fake laidbackness maybe but í´m quite happy, yeah.

Nice work! i think this one is the one ive enjoyed the most so far keep them comming! I'll +1  the comment on good work with the drums are really smooth.  Always surprises me how you can churn songs so fast! Inspires me to git gud.

    Thank you so much!

For the speed...... well i see it from the other side... my main goal is to learn a song each week to be just able to play when there is a guitar lying around... cause end of 2024 i could play..... zero. Sooooo - i need easy versions i can remember - so i break it down to signature riff, verse and chorus, and maybe any other signature part if there is (as in that case the "under the bridge downtown..." part.... so as i have the song dissected and enslaved (what would the average jazz lover have discribed that?).... and when i have a rough idea how to play it´s already done - i can go tail to nose and just record a version with my choice of weapons and add funny things like bass et al. ...
The songs so far have been extremely grateful and straight forward for that approach... but you´ll see me fight.

yep they look great, especially the black and white ones! which one do you have? I'm wondering for someone performing on scene, if it's better to avoid black since the audience would not see it but the white (or in general brighter colours would be more visible) but that's purely out of curiosity since I won't perform.

It's veryyyy tempting! 😇 I just need to figure out where to hide it 😄

    I got the white one.

  4. Here comes. Was no hard decisicon for me what to choose. Always loved that song.
I decided to do a very small acoustic version. So started with one guitar line. Captured by 2 mics, one small diapgragm pointing to 12th fret, a large one pointing to the body right of the soudhole - those got panned to the very right and left.
For the arrangement - for i wanted to do a sad version of course i decided to skip the 2nd chorus and go right into the dramatic themed part. I transposed from Emaj to Dmaj to not have to use a capo and also this is way high enough to sing along for me. Rather happy with the guitar. Sang along then and added a very short 2nd vocal mimicing a guy living unther the bridge joining in in the themed part.
As i recorded with metronome i added a somehow distracting afro-trip-ambient drum line that really gave a smile in the mix.
That took rather long. One hour of getting tabs together and arrange, half an hour of practice the parts yd and good 3 hours today.

    Don´t be gentle on me.

Here's my cover, it was so fun to do (and also I hated it)

I couldn't really figure out how to stay on key on this one lol had me like ??? and the string squeaks got me so salty

I picked up a used MIDI keyboard this week because I didn't want to keep missing out on the sick synth solos like with The House of the Rising Sun! Having a good time with these, what a rabbit hole

Drand did it again.... WOW what an athmosphere. How did you do those drums? Hammer!!!! Guitar - on point, vocals transporting a mood of sedated desperation listened throug a half-cosed window or thin wall .. YES!  Overall very professional cover, bravo!!

    @ cacahuate51  - yes! bring it on.

Here is my very raw version of NIN - Hand that feeds. Without the crutch of Rocksmith 🫣

So, questions... Is it feasible to remove the sliding sound in the acoustic? Or my best bet is to purchase a cheap eletric guitar? 🎸

Do you use physical pedals to record? Or Audacity plugins? Is it possible to use the tones from Rocksmith?

    A cover of RHCP? 🥳

So many possibilities... Under the bridge, Otherside, Aeroplane, Breaking the Girl, By the way, Californication, Scar Tissue, Zephyr Song, Dark Necessities, Give it Away

But most of them I can't play above 95% 🤣

Wow. Congrats and thx for participating. Keep those coming!

Love the arrangemebt wit he bass driving the whole thing. Consider giving us some vocals!!
    For recording:
The sliding noises - yeah - that´s not depending on your guitar but on your fingers - those noises will get lower on each cover as you will get used to lift the fingers to avoid it.
Also placement of the mic is crucial - place it more towards the body (away from the noisemaking) and overall a little further from the guitar. You can do short samples by moving THE GUITAR INSTEAD OF THE FIXED MIC to get the optimum setup for yourself.

For tones etc... well for acoustic i use the pure acoustic sound captured by a mic, no filters or plugins. For bass - my standard bass tone mainly. For e-guitar  - the tone coming out of my amp (a Line 6 Helix Floorboard). I do hardware recording cause i don´t need to use a mouse or keyboard there on my Zoom R24
    R24_top.jpg.800x482_q70_crop_size_canvas

It does absolutely the same as a DAW software, for me the cool thing is i can oldschool mix with switches. It has a few effects i use mainly reverb or delay.

I don't have any advice on the bass selection, and not sure if this even qualifies as relationship advice.  A few weeks ago my wife was waiting for me in the car while I popped into Guitar Center as I often do to pick up strings or picks.   When I came out in a few minutes and presented her with a small gift - Pink Floyd coffee mug inscribed "dark side of the brew" - she quickly caught on and knew that something big  was up, but was not nearly as upset as she might have been otherwise when I wheeled out the Roland FP30X digital piano - could barely even fit the damn thing in the Honda Civic ...

Oh fxxx..aren't we all the same 🙂

ok, little advice needed, wifey is going away for a few days, and  I see a small window of opportunity... I mean, what can happen is bound to happen eventually, isn't it? so any advice among those five candidates?

Stop... might i throw in a suggestion:

Marcus Miller Sire P7 or P5

sensational value for money - active and passive (switch)
I use that now for 5 years (the white one) and would instantly rebuy if broken.

  9. @ diceslinger  - reading your thoughts a tad....

    SIDE CHALLENGE - Let´s COVER some [26]

Rules? No rules! We pick a song and everybody is invited to share his version. Songs shall be called every week, if you don´t manage to nail your version within the week - entrances are ALWAYS welcome. No winners, no losers, just fun and personal progress, a bit bringing in the harvest of the hard work we all do here every week by converting to own produced music, and (for me very important) learning (easy versions) of songs to be able to play them anytime when a guitar is in the room - and that shall be a part of thinking on the next song selection maybe.

So - as we had NIN - Hand That Feeds last week  JUST GREAT, yay!!!! Everyone who has not finished his cover - just post whenever ready in the running week (yes, this one) so we all will recognise it.

Covering Allstar @ diceslinger  is back and translating his posts:

This week we want you to cover ANY RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS SONG

Feel free to choose your most fav one or just go for Can´t Stop if you trained that already last week. There are great CDLCs for almost all of their songs.

Cannot wait to have those coming in.

    Great week everyone!!!!

    Rod.
