  1. I've updated the OP with the latest info. Next up is the conversion of my two Van Der Graaf Generator songs + a new one. Also "Atom Heart Mother" if deratio manages to finish his part.
  2. Well, ASCII can be imported into GP, so it should be a good first step. I'd rather see ASCII tab export than nothing at all.
  3. We definitely need some Stoner Rock. There's not much on here yet.
  4. I'm always happy to inspire. ;) Just keep at it and take your time.
  5. 10 isn't noticable better than 8 but produces files that are a lot bigger, so I wouldn't go higher (or lower) than 7 or 8.
  6. Haha, I understand. I think once people start playing the dead they will be blown away by how much is going on, even in the studio stuff. And the Dead were very explorational in all aspects of their life. Even in the studio, they were the first to record on 12 tracks when there were only 8, then 24, etc. They revolutionized music is so many ways. Not to mention the Wall of Sound. And all that was the brainchild of Owsley, their soundman and most famous LSD chemist next to Albert Hoffman who discovered it in 1938. Owsley was incredible, and there are many accolades of him, such as from Steely Dan. Their song Kid Charlamagne is about Owsley, check it out sometime. And I dont expect anything. Just talking with you and sharing appreciation and excitement for their music is wonderful. Just enjoy making them:) and enjoy experiencing them:)Kid Charlemagne is one of my favorite Steely Dan songs but I didn't knew it was about Owsley. Interesting how everything seems to be connected somehow. And just to get this on record: I really appreciate the Grateful Dead for all their innovations and their inimitable creativity but I'm not that big a fan as you are. I listen to the studio stuff and the occasional live recordings, but that's it. My brother on the other hand is a real Grateful Dead nerd, always listening to the recordings on archive.org. I guess by now he's heard them all. :D
  7. I have multitracks for those two songs and high quality releases as well, so I'm good. I'll use the studio recordings, which should be hard enough to transcribe already, so I don't want to make anymore work for myself then I already have. Also, full disclosure: This will take a while, pribably a lot longer than you hope. I don't have very much time on my hands right now and still some customs to convert from 2012, besides already started projects that I want to eventually finish before working on anything new.
  8. Casey Jones has been done by RobotMom already but she's not on CF, so there isn't a downloadable version. Not sure if you have that one already but I have a copy on my HD. Besides that, I have multi tracks for Uncle Johns Band and Truckin' but I've seen useful GP files for some other songs on American Beauty around the web. I personally would really like to do China Cat Sunflower or Franklin's Tower and I could probably transcribe the bass but the guitars will be an issue without useful tabs.
  9. Those older songbooks are the best and almost always superior to th rushed crap they put out nowadays ( the only exception being japanese band score books), so I'm glad that you make them available. I have some Grateful Dead master tracks, that should help me figure out the details in case the tab isn't acurate or complete.
  10. Cool. I'll gladly take a look at those song books. As long as it got the guitar tabbed, I should be able to do the rest myself. Just pm me the links if you will. ;)
  11. Do you have a GP file with your transcription? If yes, then I'll happily transcribe the bass for you and put it in. If not, I can just make a new one and send it your way. It will take a while, but it shouldn't be hard.
  12. If there just were any tabs… There's some songbooks available but I'm not sure how good they are and they cover only part of their material. I'll try to get one of these some day and then I'll go from there.
  13. I sure am and I've been planning to do 20th Century Schizoid Man for the longest time now, so I should probably get to it soon. ;) If you look at my WIP page you can see all the stuff I want to do eventually.
  14. Nice list. I'll be looking forward to more Jethro Tull and Alan Parsons Project. I'll hope to do something off of "I, Robot" or maybe another one off the first album. We'll see.
  15. I guess the standard tuning arrangement will be a lot harder to play and it probably won't sound exactly like the record but it may work. Still, playing it with Page's custom tuning should be the way to go and it's not even that difficult. When I started preparing the song I practiced some of the main phrases and could play them fairly quickly, so I guess everyone else should have no difficulties with that. :)
  16. I guess, I won't be able to finish the "Rain Song" in time, so just have a go at it. I haven't worked on it since our last discussion on that topic, so I don't even have anything else than a Go Play Along xml. I'll just be glad to see it in RS and there's no one I trust more to do a bang on job than you. ;)
  17. As said above, midi would be such an intermediary format but it could probably work with the text file the toolkit produces as well. Btw, I think the toolkit's already able to output text files of tablature but I haven't tried it yet.Edit: Yes, midi is limiting but it's better than nothing. However ASCII tabs can be imported, although not combined with midi data.
  18. This came up long ago on SA, but raynebc made it pretty clear back then, that it's pretty much impossible (or at least too much work) to do that. However, if one could export it as a midi file, than that could be imported into GP. It will need to be revised again then, but you can save a lot of work. In the future I would advise to make the tab beforehand in GP, any changes in EoF can then be transferred to the GP file by comparing both.
  19. Equalization helps a great deal and I recently started doing that, but I mostly use a software called "Capo" that perfectly assists you when tabbing. If you have a Mac, that's a great tool to get.
  20. Right. Off beat was the wrong word. What I meant was that most stuff happens between the beat, even if most of the time. When you try to tab the bass you soon realize that it's not that easy to get it right. Lot's of tuplets and triplets between the beats. ;) And yeah, ska or reggae is not something you find tabs for easily. Thankfully it's not always that hard to transcribe, when you got a enough experience.
  21. We could definitely use some more reggae in RS. It seems that it's still a very highly under appreciated genre, because it seems so easy on the outside but is a lot more complex than the average listener may think. It would definitely help beginners to develop a better understanding of rhythmic guitar playing and may teach them some useful techniques for playing sweet little licks in between main phrases as well. And the bass players get served as well with some nice offbeat and sometimes also quite challenging rhythmic lines.
  22. Sadly they are only planned for now; if they just were finished already… :P
  23. I guess you know how this works, so instead of me explaining, here's the link to all my customs: Link Below you can find my ongoing projects, so take a peek if you're interested and if you find something you like let me know. You're always welcome to tab something out yourself of course. Progressive Music Project: As any of you might have guessed from the list of customs I've release and the ones released by others that I showed interested in the most, I'm a big fan of progressive music of any kind and the fact that the progressive tag can be applied to almost every genre is what makes it so enticing. The monotony of straightforward radio friendly pop, rock and metal is often to much for me and that's when I turn to the "dark" side of music, where I can unwind in ever evolving musical stories of intricate complexion, not only told by thoughtful lyrics but made alive by the voices of the instruments. I especially like progressive rock from the 70's, but not only the classics, also the more obscure stuff that didn't reach the masses, even though it was sometimes as good, if not better, as a lot of the most popular acts, but that's personal opinion. The same goes for the definition of what's progressive as well, because not all bands can easily be classified as such, but I'll stick with whatever's defined as progressive on http://www.progarchives.com/. So here's a list of all my progressive music customs already released so far: Aardvark - Very Nice Of You To Call Adam Sandler - The Goat Song Alan Parsons Project - The Cask Of Amontillado Argent - Lothlorien Camel - Slow Yourself Down Chris Squire - Hold Out Your Hand/You By My Side Dr. Z - Evil Woman's Manly Child Ekseption - Smile Ekseption - Beggar Julia's Time Trip [RS Cut] Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Jerusalem Emerson, Lake & Palmer - The Sheriff Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Jeremy Bender Focus - Sylvia Frank Zappa - You're Probably Wondering Why I'm Here Frank Zappa - Camarillo Brillo Frank Zappa - Uncle Remus Gentle Giant - Think Of Me With Kindness Glass Hammer - The Old Troll And The Maiden Jeff Wayne - The Eve Of The War/Horsell Common And The Heat Ray Jethro Tull - Cross Eyed Mary Jethro Tull - Teacher Jethro Tull - To Cry You A Song Magma - Dondaï Pink Floyd - Fat Old Sun Rare Bird - Sympathy Van Der Graaf Generator - Darkness (11/11) Van Der Graaf Generator - Refugees Yes - Perpetual Change Musical Project: However much I love me some great and complex progressive music I also have a fondness for simpler forms of entertainment, like say, the stuff musical theater is made of. There's of course different kinds of musicals: there's the simple song structured ones like "The Book Of Mormon" or "Wicked" and there's also the more progressive ones which work like classic music theatre, i.e. "Les Misérables" or most of Steven Sondheim's musicals. I am a big fan of both formats and I want to bring a nice variety of bits and pieces of all of the famous musicals to RS, but I would also appreciate every effort from other charters in this direction. So, if you have any interest in this kind of musical entertainment, then join me in my venture and help bring some more color to RS by putting out a great selection of famous musical songs. I have a nice collection of sheet music for most of them, so I could set you up with those if you need them. Just let me know what you are planning to do and if you release it, I'll put the link into the OP of this project, so we can collect all the customs in one place. Now for a list of musicals that I plan to work on eventually: Les Misérables Sweeney Todd Sunday In The Park With George West Side Story Rent The Producers Hairspray Into The Woods Little Shop Of Horrors Wicked Chicago Spamalot Billy Elliot Book Of Mormon Scrubs Musical Bombshell (Smash Musical) Lion King Fiddler On The Roof Here's what has been done until now: Beauty And The Beast - Belle Cats - Gus The Theater Cat/Growltiger's Last Stand Into The Woods - Ever After Jeff Wayne - Eve Of The War/Horsell Common And The Heat Ray Monty Python's Spamalot - Act I Medley Seven Brides For Seven Brothers - Bless Your Beautiful Hide Seven Brides For Seven Brothers - Sobbin' Women Rocky Horror Picture Show - Over At The Frankenstein Place If you have any particular song choices for any of the above mentioned musicals let me know and I'll let that influence my decision of what to do next.
  24. Great choice, I really want to play that one. Btw, if you want to do "Aqualung" or "Hymn 43" then I can send the multitracks your way. That should help with working out the details.
  25. I just saw that my advice on the other thread was unnecessary because you already know all the places to find Tull tabs. ;) Anyway, good luck with your project and I'm looking forward to more Tull from you (and possibly myself).
