  1. I'm very weak and weedy so always use 9s lol. And yes, changing gauge strings or even keeping the same gauge and just changing the brand of strings on a Floyd Rose will mean you'll need to setup the guitar again. It's a pain in the arse lol.
  2. Yup, Liverpool are going to regret that signing. Latest rumours are that United are going to be signing Blind and Vidal next. If that happens then we could be looking at the following first choice lineup for United: De Gea Jones Blind Rojo Di Maria Vidal Herrera Shaw Mata Rooney Van Persil Blind offering cover for Rojo, Shaw and Vidal. Rojo cover for Blind and Shaw. Di Maria offering cover for Shaw, Herrera and Mata. Herrera offering cover for Vidal and Mata. Not bad I reckon.
  3. Well we've had a bit of a disastrous start so far lol. Getting beat by the Swans, drawing with the Mackems and last night we got HAMMERED by MK Dons 4-0 and knocked out of the League Cup. I've seen various United fans on forums slagging off the system saying that playing 3-4-3 doesn't work in the Premiership but they need to be patient. The main problem is that by changing this system Van Gaal has changed our passing movement, that's why our passes keep going astray. All we need to do is have patience. As Van Gaal has said numerous times it's going to take time. I'm very confident that in as little time as a few weeks our performances are going to vastly improve, I'm not worried. B)
  4. I'd certainly get one if I had the cash for it. I'm REALLY happy with my Digitech RP255 which is a great multi-effects pedal in its own right and I dare say has a good few of the same amps, cabs and some of the same effects pedals but you'd be comparing the equivalent of in gaming terms a Wii U and a PS4. I'd love to own one, although I'm getting myself a PS4 sometime during the next 4 or 5 months so maybe I'll save up for an HD500X as my next toy on the list lol  :P
  5. Yup, it's expensive but a lot cheaper than getting the amp, cab and pedals that he uses even if you get them second hand. And like I said you're not limiting your tone to just replicating the tone of just one guitarist. You've got the exact tones of several guitarists in one box.
  6. To save yourself a fortune on getting another amp and cab and a shedload of pedals you'll be better off getting a multi-effects processor like the Line6 POD HD500X, particularly if you're planning on doing any gigs. No need to do your back in transporting them to and fro and, most importantly, you won't be limiting your tone to just his. If you have a gig just turn up with it and plug it straight into the PA. Job done. That's assuming that the Line6 POD HD500X has the exact same amp, cab and effects that he uses of course. You can pick one up for around £430.
  7. There are always plenty of reviews and demos of stuff on YouTube too, that's partly why I went for the RP255. I'd love to get hold of a Line6 POD HD500X though, but at 400-quid or so it's way out of my league until I get that lottery win lol
  8. I bought myself a Digitech RP255 a while back from Play.com for £119 and it's fantastic. It's got a 20 second looper, 94 amps, cabs, stompboxes and effects, 60 drum patterns, tuner, a built-in expression pedal and comes with Cubase LE4. It basically has everything you need in terms of effects - distortion, wah wah, compression, noise-gates/auto-swells, chorus, flanger, phaser, pitch effects, vibrato/rotary effects, tremolo effects, delay, reverb and a 3 band equaliser. The variety of sounds you can get out of it is ridiculous lol. There's also a shitload of patches that people have done available to download from the Digitech website, including one that makes your guitar sound like a church organ. The best thing about it, and about any multi-effects and modelling pedal, is that when you have a gig you can just plug it straight into the PA so you don't have to worry about carting a bloody great big amp and cab to every gig you get...and of course, because you're not tied to just one amp and cab you're not limiting your tone. We're not too far away from amps and cabs being obsolete imo. If money is no object then go for a Line6 POD HD500X, I'd love one myself but it's waaaay out of my price range unless I win the lottery lol
  9. Apparently we've had a bid of £24m for Benatia accepted according to latest rumours. Definitely need some more cover at the back. Can't see us signing Benatia, Blind and Rojo though. Think Van Persil will be playing next week, at least that's what Van Gaal hinted at earlier on today. All we need to do is play the way we played our first few pre-season matches. Get that pace and movement back, get that pressing back and have our wing-backs stretch play again. Our last two home matches against Valencia and Swansea we've been too cautious. We need to attack sides again, like we did in the US.
  10. Well that wasn't a good start lol. Got beat 1-2. Not sure what has happened to our one and two touch football or our pressing. No pace to speak of. Oh well, it can't get much worse lol
  11. Just thought I'd give this thread a *bump* cos it's all kicking off (I love puns lol) tomorrow. United have got Swansea at Old Trafford tomorrow, should win it I think. Plenty of injuries so we'll probably see the following lineup: De Gea Jones Smalling Blackett Young Fletcher Herrera James Mata Roonster Hernandez Am quite happy to have both Blackett and James covering for Evans and Shaw because they've deserved to see first team action at some point this season anyway based on their pre-season performances. And Young is probably a better bet to have than Valencia at right wing-back too even if Valencia was fit, again based on pre-season performances. Rafael is training again but I reckon Young will start ahead of him because he's had more training and match time with the new system even if he is fit to play. Kick off is at 12:45, can't wait for the season to start!!! :D B) :D

    Amps!

These days you're better off just buying a multi-effects and modelling pedal. When you're rehearsing or gigging just plug it straight into the PA. Basically means you're not limiting your tone by just having one amp or amp/cab combination.
  13. I've got 3 - a cheapo Superstrat, a cheapo Harley Benton strat built from a DIY kit and a cheapo Harley Benton SG built from a DIY kit. I've got a cheapo Meridian 15W practice amp and a Digitech RP255 multi-effects and modelling pedal. I really want to upgrade my gear but haven't got a great deal of cash at the moment.
  14. Haven't been too well so am putting my scales cDLC on hold for the moment. Nothing too serious, will be back to things soon hopefully. One VERY important thing you need to do when practicing scales is to sing them as you play them. It'll improve your ear and will be invaluable when learning new licks or creating your own licks.
  15. Nowt to do with coffee but this Summer I've discovered I'm allergic to beer!!! :( Got a load of Stella Artois in for the World Cup and found that it gives me a runny nose and sneezes. Same thing with Guinness too. Luckily I don't drink as much as I used to when I was working behind the bar years ago, I had a bit of a drink problem. I could quite easily do 20+ pints in a session without a problem, on my 29th birthday I went out with a mate of mine and we did 30+ pints plus shorts and then went to a party afterwards lol   I hardly drink at all these days though so am doing much better now. Just a pint or two a few times a year. :)
  16. Sorry to hear about all that mate. Best of luck finding a new place, everything will settle down once you do.
  17. Here's my first solo. Not a guitar solo though, it's a bass solo. That was back in the mid-90s when I was playing the bass in a punk band called The Exiles From Pluto. All original material too.
  18. I wish I had kids tbh. When I was a kid neither of my parents played anything and my Mum is tone deaf lol. My brother has 2, a boy and a girl but he doesn't play the guitar. If I had kids I'd be teaching them to play... ...does anyone here want to have my children..?   :P
  19. Well Roger Waters is supposed to be a major pain in the arse to work with apparently so it's no surprise they're not getting together again lol I actually prefer all of Roger Waters' solo albums to anything Pink Floyd have done since he left, the only thing missing from them is Dave Gilmore's stellar guitar work lol :P
  20. A pretty poor first half this morning but had the best of play in the second half. 3-1 to United was the final score, goals from Gerrard (pen), Rooney, Mata and Lingard. I think the main problems for us was that Evans and Fletch were knackered, we played much better when Blackett and Cleverley came on to replace them. Could have been a draw if Lambert wasn't useless lol :P  :P
  21. Won't be taking part myself unfortunately. I'm the Kiss Of Death on players with these things, don't want to be responsible for any cruciate ligament injuries!
  22. Pink Floyd isn't Pink Floyd without Roger Waters' songwriting unfortunately. For my money there hasn't been a 'proper' Pink Floyd album since The Final Cut. :(
  23. To be fair though that was an U21 regular starter last season vs the most expensive player in the world, and he didn't do that badly lol :D :P
  24. Another great performance, albeit against a weakened Real Madras side. So it's United against either the dodgy red scouse gits ( :P ) or the Bitter Blues ( :P ). I REALLY like some of the football we've been playing since Van Gaal has taken over. B) Edit: Ah, didn't realise it was confirmed as the red scouse gits earlier!
  25. 2-1 to United at halftime and they deserve to go in ahead. The difference between Van Gaal's United and Moyes' United is just about as much night and day as you can get. Our fast-paced attacking and counter attacking football is back, our passing movement is back (and the triangles are a little different due to the different formation), our accurate diagonal balls from the center of midfield to either flank is back and we're not only keeping possession better but we're also regaining it pretty quickly once it's lost and we're looking pretty solid at the back too. I'm trying my best not to get too excited because it's just pre-season but I reckon we've got a good shot at winning the Premiership next season. And that's before we sign anyone else!
