  1. Thank you, CR I take your advice about it sometimes being messier fixing up a CDLC than starting from scratch. Sounds like words of experience there. But interesting to know its possible. I think I want to play around with some files, learn the process better and then I'll start trying to make my own from the start. Appreciate your response.
  2. Hi, I notice a lot of songs that are bass only. I sometimes wonder if I could take that psarc file and edit it, just adding a lead and rhythm line to the bass? If someone has gone to the trouble of setting up the file with tempo etc etc, adding other lines would be easier than starting from scratch (especially as I am not experienced with EOF). I would of course ask the author first if they were ok with me doing so, and not simply adjust files without author permission. Is this easy enough? Dave
  3. Thank you soooo much Cozy1 for your clear instructions. I was kind of expecting a bit of a run-down for liking RS1 but I think I am not the only one. I think RS1 and RS2014 each have their pros and cons, and are very different beasts. I gotta go work but will give your instructions a go and see how I go. Will comment when I've tried it. Again, much appreciated thanks! Dave
  4. Hi, I was wondering what the easiest (even if not the quickest) way to produce CDLC for RS1? Yeah yeah I know, why would I? I use RS2014 typically, but the other day, for some reason, I loaded up RS1 and for all its flaws, it was just ... well .....more fun. The whole playing gigs n stuff and the earning points were just way more incentive for a learning player than RS2014 is. It seems that RS2014 became more professional but in the transition, forgot that the reason RS1 was so great for newbies is because it offered the fun of Rock Band etc but with a real guitar. The only issue with RS1 is the limited song choices, and I wondered if I could learn how to export current CDLC to the earlier format, or if it is possible to use GP7 to create a CDLC and export it to the old format. Any advice would be appreciated. Dave
  5. Actually I wish someone would create a tutorial showing how to convert PSARC files to DAT. As much as i enjoy RS2014, I really miss the playing performances in RS2012, and often go back and play in that. I understand that by using the Custom Toolkit, and EoF and Wwise, you can do a conversion so I can play CDLC in the old RS, but I am not that technically minded and would love someone with more skills in these things to give me some pointers... Not sure if I am alone in this wish, but I would jump for joy to see such a tutorial.... Tks
  6. Aah so it is the DAT files.... I get the impression it doesnt export tones when it generates but I'll try a few songs in RS1 and post back how it goes.
  7. Thanks for reply.... I opened up the toolkit and see what you mean although I thought the RS radio button was so you could import the old CDLCs and repackage them for RS2014 not the other way around. I have only ever used CDLC in RS2014 under the psarc format. Looking inside RS1 I dont see the same formats; were they packaged differently?
  8. Hi all, Apologies if this has been asked before but is it possible for me to take CDLCs - which presumably are now all made for RS2014 - and repackage them for RS1? I know you are probably thinking WHY? but the fact is, even though the UI is cleaner and all for the new RS, I still kinda prefer the original version. I really used to enjoy the venue events, and just found that as a learning guitarist, the path of progression was much more evident than in RS2014. Unlocking a new venue to play a 'gig' in was rewarding, unlike the rewards in RS2014 which are just meh. I do use both and can see why advanced guitarists prefer RS2014 but for me, RS1 seemed just more fun and rewarding and I would like to play the CDLC in that version instead. Any ideas?
  9. Aaah, I see those flickering levels too and often wondered what that was about. I naturally assumed my graphics driver was playing up or something but wondered why only to one aspect of the screen. Thanks for clearing that up...
  10. Thanks all for your advice. Pretty much sets my path then. Looks like I'm saving for a new PC! :D
  11. Hi all, My missus is suggesting that instead of upgrading to a new PC, I should just get an XboxOne or PS4 given how I mostly play games, and in particular, use RS2014. Part of my hesitation to do so is because I note that most CDLCs are for PC. I have only lightly delved into the CDLC process but have yet to finish creating a CDLC so am still not clear on all sections of the process. My question: how hard (or even is it possible) to take a CDLC for the PC, open it in EOF and re-export to XBoxOne or PS4? Or do I assume creators do not always do it because it is a pain in the proverbial? Any advice from you EOF geniuses would be appreciated. Cheers David
  12. Thanks. I did see that one, and it seemed pretty positive, but that is the only review I can actually find after a Google search. I vaguely recalled someone on one of the forums mentioning having an Artist, hence the post, but maybe they were on the Rocksmith forums so will try there too...
  13. Hi, This one particularly aimed at Aussies on here.... Anyone tried an Artist guitar? They seem to offer an LP style electric with a set neck at a pretty good deal for $200AUS. http://www.artistguitars.com.au/buy/artist-lp60-electric-guitar-plus-accessories/70009 They claim their business practices are responsible for the cheap prices yet good quality. If anyone has any experience of the LP models, I'd be interested to hear your advice to help me decide whether I should pick one up or save a bit more for an Epi LP100. Cheers David
  14. What I find bemusing is the EITHER/OR argument on display here. I don't disagree with you at all; eventually if you want to play songs the way they are meant to be played, you have to outgrow DD. But for a beginner, repeatedly plugging away at Riff Repeater can eventually get demotivating and stop RS being fun. I personally have taken advantage of DD AND RR to improve. I push DD further until it the song seems beyond my capability, then head into RR to work on those riffs I found too complex at the level I am at. Eventually, I start to nail it, and I again have fun playing the song, until the DD moves up again and I return to RR. This way, I am improving but having the pleasure of playing a song at the same time. I don't see why there is an argument for one way over the other, unless you are an expert player already. For those of us who aren't, the two tools working together make a great team.... :)
  15. RS is for learning and playing guitar. And if it is NOT designed to cater for absolute beginners as you seem to suggest, you should point it out to Ubisoft because they happen to have wasted a lot of time on beginner level lessons ("how to hold a pick") not to mention implementing the DD system. There should be no music snobbery here. RS is for ALL levels of player and if you dont like DD, just set the levels to 100% and have done with it - should make no difference to you. Why rob others of the helping hand DD offers, just because you dont like it?
  16. LOL...I take no offence, and you are likely right. I am no expert and I take note of all advice I get here, and you sound like you have plenty of experience for what makes a good and a poor guitar. And I am following your sage advice. I plan to just use my Ibanez for now, and save for an Epi LP100 for early next year. At my current skill level, I cannot justify spending more than that, and it should do me for a few years, and have some resellability for the next upgrade. Thanks, mate D
  17. I can see both sides of the argument here. On the one hand, it is perfectly logical for Ubi to want to attract purchasers of the next-gen version so as to warrant the work involved in making that version. On the other, loyal DLC buyers who have given Ubi a lot of money over the past year have to shell out again and see others new to the program get something they didnt get. I find it odd that Ubi didnt foresee that a backlash would come from at least some customers. I think it would have been wiser to do the following: 1) offer Hendrix and Tom Petty for ALL platforms at same time for the cost as set 2) for first time purchasers on an XB1/PS4, they get the usual disc set of songs PLUS a couple of the older DLC packs, such as Pearl Jam or The Who because then most current owners who probably already had them would have less reason to feel jealous 3) upgrading purchasers (who had say a version on another platform or earlier iteration and therefore have a code to prove it) and are therefore effectively paying for a second copy of RS2014, maybe they are entitled to free Hendrix as well as some older DLC because people would be less likely to begrudge it for someone who is spending on 2 copies. I reckon that would have caused less angst. Ubi need to hire me as marketing manager.
  18. So you don't like them then? :D Well, I don't mind admitting I am a noob so all guitars seem wonderful to me, and my cheapie suits me just fine right now. I agree with PC Plum (awesome DLC BTW) that it probably doesn't matter really as I currently mostly use it on RS2014 (and am some time away from gigging) so it is pretty much nothing more than a device to send a signal anyway. Despite this, I always seem to have itchy wallet fever and am looking at what to buy next. Only trouble is, my wallet is never that full once I pay the bills, so probably will have a maximum of $400 on my next purchase next year (still a step up from the 2nd hand $50 Ibanez! lol). Probably will go for an Epi LP100 ... or was looking at the Swing C-1, which looks almost identical and seems to be quite good from the few reviews I could find....anyone have any experience of them? Anyway, again thanks for the advice (and constructive criticism! hehe). Cheers D
  19. I think Azrael hit the nail on the head earlier in this thread. Isn't it about choice? I am disappointed by expert players saying it should be gotten rid of, because I would argue it is part of Rocksmith's success. Like many beginners, I was put off learning an instrument because of the tedious stage of playing "Row Row Your Boat" songs as they are easy. I wanted to play the songs I love! I wanted to feel like a rock God! So RS was a godsend. Sure, at the start I was hitting one note every 5 seconds but it sold me on the illusion of being able to play songs like my heroes. And even if it was an illusion, it was a convincing enough illusion to motivate me to stick with it, something other methodologies had failed to do. So now, I am still a beginner really, but when I compare where I am and what my fingers can now play now compared to when I started, I can only sing RS' praises - and DD plays a big part of that. Some DD is better than others. For example, the official DLC of Pearl Jam's Alive is awesome because even at the lowest levels, the song comes through and riffs would be recognisable even without the backing track - key to good DD. Some have said RR slowed down is the best way - FOR THEM - and I do use that too for tricky set pieces I need to get down, but whilst it is really great and essential for actually improving and learning, it is not really fun as such. Last night, when a buddy of mine (also beginner) came over, we just wanted to have fun, so played for 4 or 5 hours in Multiplayer, and DD allows us to just enjoy the buzz of hitting notes to a song without being overwhelmed. I would like to see DD tweaked slightly in a future iteration of RS. Sometimes, I play a sequence well at the limit of my abilities and suddenly RS cranks it up to beyond my abilities. I would love to have more control in LAS (as well as RR) in the form of a slider, which allows me to take some of the 'dynamic' out of DD when I so wish, but that's a small point. In closing, Santa is bringing an electric guitar to my 7 yr old daughter for xmas, and I think DD will be key in getting her into RS. Sitting and concentrating on notes to a muddy slowed down song in RR will never cut it for a beginner 7 year old child.
  20. Have a Squier Modified Jaguar SS bass, and an Ibanez GAX30. Both entry level but fine for my needs until my playing gets better. I suspect that when I can blow my wife away with a Crowded House number, I may get her agreement to trade up hehe. Mind you, if guitars here in Aus were as cheap as they are in the States, I'd have a Gibson Les Paul already. I scour the Guitar Center website like a kid stares at the department store grotto at Christmas. One day.....one day......
  21. Amazing stuff. I will check this tool out when I get home from work, but just wanted to complement Cabilistic for giving up his time and expertise to help out the RS and CF community. I didnt know this existed until just now. Awesome work, man, just awesome.
  22. Hey FT, Thanks for the advice (and good to know I was posting correctly!! hehe) I get what you mean about the sound as it is. TBH, I brought it home, plugged it in and was quite taken aback by how good it sounded even with what were clearly old and worn strings (the thing was covered in dust). Anyhow, am getting a music shop to check out intonation and what not, adjusting fret heights etc so will be interested to see how it plays when I get it back all serviced. I really like the look of it, and think I may have the experience you have, falling in love with it, and keeping it around even when I get better at playing and buy newer and better quality guitars. I spent 4 solid hours on RS when I got it home and couldnt stop smiling all night! My wife kept rolling her eyes every time she has caught me in the back room strumming it. I think, depending on what it is like with new strings, I may possibly replace the neck pickup with a Dimarzio one that I saw which supposedly replicates that Les Paul sound, but that would probably be the limit of change. Like you say I think I will just enjoy it for what it is. In any event, I really appreciate your wisdom and time to reply....some good logic there. I'll post my thoughts on the guitar when I get it back - might encourage you to get one just to add to your collection hehe :D
  23. Hmm...weird....every posting has a reply except mine, and the one after which asks a similar question gets 3 replies when I still have none. Am I doing something wrong? Can people see this post at all? (not sarcasm, just curious if I am not doing this right...)
  24. Hi all, OK, when I got RS, I had a Squier entry level Strat but seemed to struggle and sold it, buying a bass instead which I have loved and progressed with. Still, it has always niggled me so recently I have been feeling I should retry a 6 string electric but dont wanna spend too much money on one in case I find myself going back to bass for good. Anyway, today in a second-hand store I picked up an Ibanez GAX30. Entry level I know but considering it has a 3mth warranty (so I can get it checked out) and only cost me $45 I am pretty stoked. It seems to sound and play ok in RS but I will get it checked out and new strings etc. However, am curious whether anyone has any experience of this guitar (your thoughts) and any suggestions on what/if I should upgrade on parts, and any suggestions of what to buy. Online, some seem to say the tuners aint that great but pickups are fine.... Any advice greatly appreciated. David
