  1. Ok, now you guys have got me feeling like a complete beginner. I was just talking to my wife yesterday about going to a music shop to get new strings for my bass, and have them restring it for me, since I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm not even sure which strings to get, but I thought maybe new strings would help the problem I've been having with note recognition in RS.
  2. My scores for this week: Always Summer, and Stacy's Mom. I'll try and improve on Summer later today or tomorrow. For some reason, my dog started licking my foot about half way through playing Stacy's Mom. Not sure if she was trying to help me or if she was trying to distract me. Or maybe she just doesn't want me to play that song anymore?
  3. Congrats, @@Vodka! Now, on to my scores for the week. Ugh. Starting with Anarchy, here's AIDS, and Our Lips. I didn't have as much practice time as I would have liked this week, but still, some of these songs were pretty tough. And I was having all kinds of problems with note recognition at times. Sometimes when playing Anarchy for example, I would get those little arrows that point to the left or right while playing a long line of notes in the middle of a stretch on A string 10th fret, then it would disappear and come back again, without moving my fret hand at all. Even during sustains it would sometimes not recognize the notes. And other times, everything seemed to work fine. Maybe I need a new cable or something.
  4. I'm not sure how difficulty ratings are determined, but for me the Fishbone song is definitely not a 1 or 2. I wouldn't call it beginner level at all, nor did I think Jump in the Fire was beginner level for bass. Maybe that's because I am just not good enough as a bass player yet, maybe that is due to my disability, I don't know. But speaking as someone who still considers themselves very much a beginner level bass player, these songs are pretty tough, and more like intermediate level to me. I'm not trying to complain or criticize, just putting my two cents in.
  5. Kinda strange this week for me. Our Lips are Sealed is a lot harder for me than Slow Down is (bass). Haven't tried the Fishbone yet.
  6. '@chickentacos levels up to Int Bass!' Hooray for me!!! Not sure what that means, but still - hooray for me!!! :)
  7. Here's Don't Take Me for a Loser. Actually did this one a couple of days ago, just forgot to post it.
  8. Here is Don't Take Me for a Loser. This week is much easier in beginner bass. Not exactly my favorite song, but I do think this song fits in the beginner bass category much better than Jump in the Fire.
  9. Here's my best score for Jump in the Fire so far.
  10. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Playing Jump in the Fire hurts my left hand, too!
  11. Wow, Jump in the Fire is kicking my butt. If that is a beginner song, I'm a heck of a lot farther away from intermediate level than I thought!
  12. I did the same thing, unblocked ads after taking the survey.
  13. Alright, last try. I promise. Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt. A little bit better than last time.
  14. Here is my (probably) last attempt at Nobody Move, Nobody Hurt. At least my score improved!
  15. Here's my attempt at Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt.
  16. that's what I thought while testing the songs for the week. I'll upload my "fixed" version and link it to the record page Outlaw works fine for me, now. Thanks!
  17. that's what I thought while testing the songs for the week. I'll upload my "fixed" version and link it to the record page Thanks, I'll try the new version. :)
  18. Anyone else having trouble with Outlaw? Every time I try to play it, RS crashes and I have to restart the game, only to have it crash again if I try to play Outlaw.
  19. Last try on Xerces. Slightly better than before. Very slightly. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=846642570
  20. Here is my attempt at Xerces. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=846259164 I may try it again to get a better score, but it's kind of frustrating to play. At times RS seems to have trouble detecting notes on the E string when tuned lower than standard. But at least I am improving my playing, which is all that really matters anyway.
  21. Well that is my own impression. From what we played - Running Free seems to be the easiest Maiden bass line. I always thought Phantom sounded the hardest, but that was the opinion of someone who never really played bass beyond just the most basic level. So I was looking for a much more informed opinion (from people who actually play bass). So I'll try to tackle Running Free, which just so happens to be my least favorite Maiden song, but I gotta start somewhere!
  22. So is Phantom generally considered the hardest Maiden bass line? I love that song, but it is light years beyond what I can play. What are the easiest Maiden songs to play on bass?
  23. Here is my attempt at Starlight http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=838644692
  24. left hand, right hand or both ? most important thing is to stay relaxed Right hand. I play finger style/finger picking style, if that makes a difference, I can't use a pick. I generally use three fingers during the faster sections, but like I said, my fingers get pretty tired. I am making progress, yesterday my (right) hand was dead tired after playing through Under the Red Cloud twice, today I managed to play it three times before they gave up on me. :) I try and keep both of my hands relaxed, but do find my self tensing up from time to time. So any more advice? well, the thing about 3 finger technique is that it's easy to start to hit the strings with a lot more force than required, and you end up getting tired even faster than with 2 fingers... and that unexperimented ring finger can get tired easily too. work on that by playing stuff with constant 16th notes (power metal did the trick for me) and endurance will come in no time (pay attention to not making triplets or gallop though). Did you try to play it with 2 fingers only ? Maybe you will find it less tiring. And playing it with a pick will definitely be easier too ! I basically play with three fingers during the faster parts, and two for everything else. So I don't want to gallup? That's pretty much what I've been doing. I have a more long term goal of learning to play Iron Maiden songs, so I figured that songs like this would help with that. I would play with a pick if I could, but I just can't do it. That may sound strange...but I have a neurological disease in my spinal column that also affects my hands/fingers, and for some reason the 'picking' motion just murders my back and neck. So, it's finger style for me. I'll try sticking with two fingers and see if that is any easier. I actually started playing bass because I was losing fine control of my fingers, but playing has helped tremendously with that, so I really appreciate any tips and advice I've been getting on this forum, it's more helpful than you probably think! :)
