Right everyone, whilst I'm working in the remaining Police tracks, I thought I'd try something else. This one is a favourite from years and years ago. Want a clue?

The majority of my customs are bass only, because 1) I'm a bass player and 2) without the bass, girls can't dance, or something like that.    Released Customs: 3 Colours Red - Copper

Hey James! Thanks so much for all the HQ-work you've put out lately. I'm enjoying it so much and i think i can also speak for the bassist community here :) see you on the scoreboard! ^^

Woohoo! You've got a follower :)

The Vapors.....Turning Japanese.

Oh boy!

Right subject, wrong song and continent for the group though  :) Turning Japanese is here already and it's a very good custom bass-wise. I'll try not to keep you hanging on too much longer!

Right, School Days is up. It's definitely going to need some fettling as the syncing doesn't appear right in some places and there are a few notes I want to check are correct.

I was looking for this song at the search page, but couldn't find it. Did you delete it? If I press the link it gives an error.

"We could not find the record you were attempting to view."

The same is with all the songs of LaceyB, can't find them anymore in the search.

Curious! Here's a link to it on Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9b52ugy7aj2hdim/AACRfGKwNgwGUVNdVjSAr8kja?dl=0

I don't know where the record on here has gone, I've certainly not deleted it. I'll create a new one at some point.

INTERESTING! I've got 207 customs listed here, but only 205 when I search by my username. I wonder what else has gone missing....

The other missing one is My Life by Billy Joel. I'm sure that song and School Days had comments by LaceyB on them, so that's probably why they've disappeared.

We are trying to investigate those dissapearance.

PS : LaceyB recently rage quited CF. Not sure how it would be linked to those dissapearance though...

Many thanks @@firekorn - I won't re-create pages for my missing customs just yet then.

Ok everyone, Moondance by Van Morrison, something I have wanted to be able to play for YEARS, is now up. Even though I say it myself, it's not bad :)

Coming in a few hours... Will You Love Me Tomorrow by Carole King and Mad World by Tears For Fears. WYLMT would have been up now but I got a note wrong right at the end and I've got to perform family duties for the rest of the evening now.

Thanks to @@neilharvey I now know how to add DD. It's simple when you know how  :D . This is a great opportunity to revisit all those customs I made with comments such as "I'll fix this later" or "this isn't quite right, give me a few minutes and I'll sort it out", and 1) fix any issues, and b) add DD!

I found Bryan Ferry's Let's Stick Together and Avalon by Roxy Music on Ultimate Guitar this morning. My initial joy was dampened a lot when I saw they were by Neckwringer. Oddly as they were just bass PowerTabs, the tab for Let's Stick Together was missing fills and looks like it needs some rework, I've not looked at Avalon yet. If you're going to create just the bass tab, why not spend the time getting it right? I can forgive guitarists who throw together an approximate bass tab, but this is just lazy. Sadly Neckwringer appears to be one of these people who likes to get admiration for uploading as many tabs as they can without paying any attention to the quality. I have lost count of how many of his tabs I've wanted to convert to customs but it's just too much hard work so I've given up. Rant over!

Currently doing "Wild Is The Wind" by David Bowie. I think I've made a major mistake by choosing to work on the version from Nothing Has Changed, as I'm sure it's twice as long as the original. It's all being done by ear because the tabs and sheet music you can buy are hopeless. It's looking good so far...

Wild Is The Wind is nearly done - just some duff notes to sort out here and there. Having a dilemma about whether to use open strings or not. Decisions, decisions....

"Don't Give Up" by Gabriel and Bush is up. Some of the dum-diddy-dum bits at the end are out of whack but this shouldn't really spoil your enjoyment of the song. No, that will have been spoiled far, far earlier on by all those chords. I hate chords. Chords are for guitarists and should never trouble the neck of a four stringed instrument. The strings are too big and the frets are too far apart for one thing. If I'd wanted to play chords, I'd have taken up guitar, and it's just as well I didn't really as then I'd have to moan about bass players posting bass-only customs on here.

I have to disagree with you about chords on bass: For one, it's essential to know chord shapes on bass to be able to play along fluently to any given chord progression and use arpeggios to their full extent and second, the use of chords over two, three or four strings can effectively enhance and enrich the low to mid end of a song. One just has to know when and how to use chords effectively and especially where to play them on the neck. I can think of quite a few great bass lines that make good use of (partial) chords at key points and I personally like to play around with chords as well. They are especially useful if the bass is the central element of a piece and therefore has to deliver more harmonic information than usual. So, all in all, I urge you to give chords on bass a chance and see them for what they are: a useful tool that you can get out whenever appropriate and that can help you create more interesting bass lines.

I've had a very long, tedious and annoying day at work @@Aludog and I was being very flippant in my last post :-) Your words are, as always, very wise and I would not hesitate to recommend them to any aspiring bass player.

I've not changed the stock strings on my Thunderbird yet (I'm waiting until I can afford a Babicz bridge, as the stock bridge is rubbish, then change the strings at the same time). I'd have thought that Rotosound would be just the job - if the E string's a bit long, can you trim the excess off?

Yeah that's what I did but the red wound bit ends as the actual string goes around the post which shouldn't happen apparently. Never strung a bass before).

It's working ok at the moment so I'll just leave it for now.

Thanks for the reply.

I would only be worried if the red silk stuff was that long it carried on over the nut at the top of the neck. If you're just winding "bare" string around the tuner, carry on as you are and you'll be fine.
