Question

Hi.

I'm currently working on making my first cdlc, but I am stuck working on the tab in guitarpro. I know the basics, but it's the first time I really make a tab with it and I am stuck with some rhythms I can't figure out how to do in guitarpro. I looked on the internet but couldn't find much help besides some basic stuff.

I'm transcribing Villanova Junction from Jimi Hendrix.

A few links to images of the original tablature vs what I have in guitarpro. Any help is appreciated

First pair I don't see any discrepancy. What's the issue here?

Second pair I can't load.

Third pair I think the 3h5p3 on the A string should be triplets. That will give you eight groupings each an eighth note in length. Not sure why it's not notated as such in the score.

Fourth pair I can't load the first image.

Fifth set I could load the first after fixing the link (there's an extra https:// for some reason), but I'm not sure I see a real discrepancy here. Things like this you're probably going to have to polish (i.e. futz around with) in EoF after importing anyway, so I wouldn't worry about getting it to look exactly like the score.

Edit: Figured out how to see the other images. Here are the correct links for the second pair (one, two) and fourth pair (one, two), and fifth set (one, two, three). All of them were missing colons after the https in the link (not the text).

Second pair: Not sure what the problem is.

Fourth pair: Not sure what the problem is again.

Hmm. Weird some links where broken. I fixed them, even tough they are exactly the same. Also could have added some info with each of them, sorry about that. I guess I rushed it a bit after going crazy about all these problems.

Basically first two of the pics I posted aren't rhythmically correct. Guitar Pro shows them as red, meaning they don't fit in the 4/4 rythm. What I tought what was wrong, was the connection of the triplets

  1. has the red 3. Usually that happens when the triplet isn't possible. Even tough guitarpro placed the regular triplet symbol under the notes. I tried the special tool for triplets and made it a 5/3, wich sounds good but the rhytm is still off as it still shows red. I guess the original tab might just be wrong considering that it isn't properly notated in (3) either. So I might just try out a few things.

  2. the first triplet. Not sure what the problem was, maybe I only just now noticed I messed that first triplet up. Or it didn't work. One or the other.. . . Well figured out I messed up the rhythm for the 7-5-7-5 pair there.

  3. What you say about this makes sense. Maybe the notation is just weird on the original tabs. Because I found it weird that whole part was linked. Meaning the 3-5--3 and 5-3-5 afterwards...just checked and that was the problem.

  4.  I have no idea on how to do the 3/4 bend in guitarpro with the bend starting pre-beat.

  5. I have no idea on how to do the (5-7) trill properly. Or at least not how to extend it like that in guitar pro.

So the main problem is the first one I guess, I have still a few problems with rythm like the first two in the tab but I'm going to try to solve those by myself first. I just think I need a break from it because I overlooked too much things apperantly.

Anyway, thanks for the fast help!

btw what do you mean with polish? Isn't it alot easier/better to just fix everything in guitarpro first?

You can do most things in Guitar Pro, but not everything will import exactly how you want it to. Slides especially, as people often put them after notes when there should be a grace note, or the slide is interpreted incorrectly (sometimes slides will give you something like a slide from a fourth finger position to a first finger position, which isn't how you'd actually play it).

Other things won't import the way you want them to in Rocksmith. For instance, trills aren't a Rocksmith technique, so if you want a trill in you have to do it manually, so instead of a measure of 16th note trills being marked say, 5tr6 with 16th notes, you have to do 5h6p5h6... which really isn't too bad to do in GP.

Anyway, my point is if it's taking you minutes to figure out how to get the rhythm of a measure in correctly, it's probably quicker to just figure out a rhythm that works well enough so that most of the notes will be in the right place, then save the file. Then you can import it, move the notes around (for a mix of 16ths and 16th triplets, it's best to use 1/48 snap. For something like the triplet 16ths within a triplet you may have to use a custom snap) until they look/sound like they're in the right place. Then if you want the tab with all of the rhythmic stuff right, do a CDLC 2 tab once you have the .psarc handy.

Basically, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. And figure out what's easier to do in GP, and what's easier to do in EoF. I'll do almost all of my edits in GP except for slides and things like that (though I think changes are coming to EoF that will make it easier to shape slides and have them act how you want), but when it comes to rhythmic things I usually find it much easier to work in EoF than in GP.

Ah I see, thanks for the help. Should have known an import wouldn't be "that" easy

Anyway I don't mind perfecting the tab in guitar pro first. It's a good excercice for me, but I see what you are saying. I fixed all the rhythm problems by now, wich I had to fix anyway since the measures wheren't in 4/4. But I guess I'll just move on for now and see how everything else works first because I have the feeling it won't be as easy as I tought :D
