Sharp, stinging pain in finger asif I have a splinter, caused by too much pressure.

I usually play acoustic guitar, but I' recently gotten an electric for my birthday and finally I can play Rocksmith well. I never have problems with calluses anymore, but there's this thing that's extremely annoying. From putting too much pressure on the strings with my fretting hand (Usually on the acoustic), I get this weird stinging sensation in my fingertip when touching anything. It's a sharp pain that kind of feels like something like glass, or a splinter is stuck in there. Does it have a name?

This time I really tried to be careful and stop playing before I felt it would happen, but it came totally out of nowhere, and I didn't even press that hard.

Yes, I realise now I (Sadly, I REAALLY felt like playing, it's impossible to play like this) have to put the guitar away and wait until it heals, but this feeling is extremely annoying. Now I can't type using that finger, can't play video games with that finger, and have to make sure nothing touches that finger or else it'll hurt. Is there a way to reduce the pain?  How can I prevent it from happening next time? Each time I really try to make it not happen yet it always ends up happening on pretty inconvenient times.

I had a metal splinter do that. If its deep enough it will take a while to work out. It was so small you could barely see it. If something is preventing you from functioning properly for more than a day or so you need to get it looked at.

Go talk with a professional. It might be a medical issue.

Agreed. I'd see a doctor, because this sounds like it could be a nerve issue (such as neuritis), and aggravating it (if it indeed nervous in scope) could lead to irreparable damage and loss of feeling in the affected extremities..

It could be a splinter, but who knows. Better safe than sorry.

It went away A LOT earlier this time. The last time it took about a full day, this time just a few hours.

My mother is not taking it seriously, probably because I always panic about each and every thing that's slightly different in my body and that each time I go to the doctor it turns out nothing's wrong or they don't know what it is but it's just not anything to worry about.

I had a similar issue in my toe a couple of years ago. It was due to a tiny splinter being lodged under the nail.

It would be completely fine for periods of time, and then if I knocked it, it would erupt in pain for a couple of hours then slowly regress to just a throbbing pain. Mine was manageable, But The splinter eventually came out a couple of months later.

You should see a Doctor, I vaguely recall that my doctor recommended to let the body handle it as the toe was not infected.

I haven't played for a long time, so the calluses on my fingers are pretty weak. Yesterday a practiced a song which required a lot of slinding, and i'm pretty sure a metal splinter stucked in my fingertip, causing a similar pain. So small i can't see it, but it's there.

Hm, maybe i should replace my strings.
