  1. I have 856 files in my dlc folder and haven't had any problems lately. I started one of the other corrupt save file threads and described my travails there. After crashing four times in short order, I now backup my save file on a regular basis, but haven't crashed lately. It sucks losing hundreds of hours of playing progress, though. You have my sympathy. Hey mods, how about making a sticky warning people about this issue with instructions on backing up files? I certainly wish I'd heard about it before my first crash.
  2. Still selling well -- #6 xbox game on US Amazon!
  3. Please NO!.. Songs should in my opinion always remain as close to the original as possible. I was aiming that statement at rock/pop artists who make songs that are just off of E, not at CDLC creators/Ubisoft who create the customs. As pointed out above, sometimes non-A440 recordings are a conscious choice, other times it's wonky technology, apparently. Also as I mentioned above, I'm on the fence about shifting songs that were originally released a bit off of A440 E. On the one hand, I'm generally a purist; on the other hand, if it's not in A440, I'll probably never play it. I haven't played my three new off-tuned Oasis songs yet, in fact.
  4. I know pitch and tuning. For whatever reason it was done/exists, and whether it was done through simply up-tuning the instruments or through studio manipulation, the fact remains that in order to play Oasis' five-pack of songs one must use three different just-off-E tunings. And if he really had a sweet spot you'd think all the up-tunings would be the same up-tunings. Seems a bit precious of them to me. "Dude, this would sound so much cooler is we shifted everything up a 16th!" And when you play along with Beatles songs, whether in RS or along with tapes/cds/albums (I used to play along with albums before cds even existed), you're in E standard all the time, baby. Same thing with 95% of rock and pop music, including RS DLC songs. You need drop D, Eb, D#, D, open G or whatever fine, but if you're that close to A440 -- the standard of Rock/pop music -- just do it! The more I think about it, the more I like Womac's shifting idea. I'm generally a purist, but I am not a fan of tiny off-tunings. Somewhat like Vega and Dazed, I rarely, if ever, play the songs I have in off tunings. I'll tune to Eb and play every song I have in Eb, and do the same for drop D, but I generally don't it for one or two songs in 444 or whatever.
  5. I just counted them up: On RS2014, I have 37 Beatles songs, ALL of which are in A440. I also have 13 Oasis songs, 8 of which are in A440, the other 5 are in 4 different tunings (443, 449, 450, 451).
  6. Interesting article, Hootzager. I can't recall seeing ever seeing any Beatles notation in anything other than "standard" A440, so I assumed that's what they played and recorded in. And their stuff seems to play well in A440, so I don't know what's going on there.... I agree that songs should be kept in their original tuning. Even if it is annoying to change tuning while playing. The non-440 Oasis tunings are 443, 449, and 450.
  7. Tunings *just* out of E. I get drop D and Eb and other non-standard tunings have a purpose, but why the **** would you tune an eighth step out of E or similar??!! Christ, the Beatles made 300+ songs in E. THEY didn't seem to have any problems. If you're going to do a song in ALMOST E just do the ****ing thing in E and have done with it!!!!!!!!!! On a Steam Summer Sale high, I bought the Oasis pack yesterday and 3 of the 5 songs are in tunings JUST off of E. Assholes! Never would have bought it had I known. I feel better now. Thanks!
  8. A few days after my first post it was back in the top 20 (#17) -- and now it's on sale for $29.99 and has jumped up to #2!! I don't think I ever saw a single commercial for either Rocksmith. In fact, I didn't know the original RS existed until I saw it at Best Buy the Christmas after it was released. Saw the cover and was like, "Where the hell did this come from and why didn't I hear about it before?!?!" They should certainly do a tie-in of some sort with Guitar Center. A coupon for a strap and strings with every copy, or Buy a guitar priced over $ x.xx and get a free copy of RS2014, etc.
  9. I've kept an eye on Amazon RS2014 sales and today is the first time, IIRC, that I've seen it out of the top 20 for Xbox 360. As of this writing it's at #21. Considering that RS2014 has been out more than seven months, you'd think it would be hailed as a spectacular success. Besides the additional money from DLC sales, the Rocksmith team is presumably much smaller than the staffs of many of the games that have come and gone in the interim. The only info I can find on sales is a February statement from the company that RS2014 had "lower-than-expected sales." So, what's the deal? Wouldn't a game that ranked that highly for that long be considered a hit?
  10. I just had it happen for the fourth time. I backup every time I play so I never lose more than a session, but you're right, it's annoying and disconcerting. Like waiting for the axe to fall.... A couple of thoughts: 1) Don't save after a session -- it may already be corrupted. Save at the beginning of a session (after you're sure everything loads properly), before you play anything. You KNOW that save works. 2) I just enabled the "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization" for Rocksmith 2014 on on Steam. Has anyone with this enabled had the dreaded corruption? If so, what happens? Does it roll you back to your last session automatically? Or are you screwed, too?
  11. I've had the tone issue dozens of times, but I've only had the corrupt file problem three times, so the dead tone thing doesn't necessarily lead to corrupt save file. Some people have mentioned that certain songs have caused the problem, though. I f we could figure out what the cause was, we'd be a long way toward solving the problem.
  12. I'm sorry to hear that, piepesado, I know it sucks. Every time I play it still annoys me how much I lost (~350 hours) my first crash. If your saves from when it was working fine don't work, I don't know what's going on. I know the most recent one (saved after the corruption event occurred) won't work, but if you have saves from a couple sessions ago when it was working fine and THEY don't work, I haven't got a clue. For my second and third crashes the second-most-recent backups always worked, the most recent one never did. I hope it's not a Ubisoft thing. I set my RS to not automatically update yesterday just in case, though. Best of luck to you. If it becomes epidemic, we'll know something's going on.
  13. Happened again to me last night. Unfortunately, it was after a nearly three-hour-long session, so I don't know which song did it and I can't remember all the songs I played. Fortunately, I have been backing up my save file after every session AND keeping the three of so most current saves, so all I lost was that 2+ hours' progress. It's crucial to keep more than just your most current save. The file is corrupted while you're playing, you just don't know it until you restart it. So, if you save after playing and only keep your most recent save, you're saving the corrupted file and you can't go back to the one that works.
  14. MVega: I'm not sure what's causing the corrupted file. After I got it working again with the old remote file, I played for a while, then quit, then restarted and it worked fine. And I'd played a couple of times without any problems since the original problem, so it's not clear that it's a particular file or what. If it keeps happening I'll look into more and do some testing. I've got 774 files in my dlc folder. Billkwando: Yeah, I'd played 300 hours or so without any problems. It'd crash once in a great while, but I never lost anything. Now twice in a week. Do yourself a favor and back it up just in case!
  15. Good news and bad news. The bad news: I got the corrupted file notice again, and the file I saved last night after playing was corrupt, too. So it seems that the file was corrupted either while I was playing or when I shut down. Otherwise, the file I saved last night after playing would have worked. The good news: Luckily, I had saved the remote file from the night *before* last too, and that one worked. So I just lost a couple of hours. And, in fact, "remote" is the crucial folder you need to backup. So: 1) Keep a few remote folder backups on a rotating basis in case one or more is corrupted. 2) Keep a few remote folder backups on a rotating basis in case one or more is corrupted.
  16. Thanks for the idea, Longstreet. It'll probably work for some people, but I got "There are no previous versions available." GameSave Manager is a good idea, too, ShameOnTheNight. I may try it, but RS14 is pretty much the only PC game I'm playing these days, so I'll probably just backup manually.
  17. Well, if I'm at 98% on something, I want to get to 100% the next time; if I'm at 90%, I want to get to 95%, etc. The number of times I've played something and my % score tells me a lot. Also, I don't play it often, but in Guitarcade, if I got a gold score, I want to get a platinum score the next time. I use my scores and save info to challenge myself to get better. Backing up the CDLC is also an important public service announcement, though. I need to do that more regularly. Thanks for the reminder! (Joe goes to backup CDLC on thumbdrive)
  18. Off the top of my head: My Baby Just Cares for Me Spiderwebs Chelsea Dagger 25 or 6 to 9 Goodnight Moon Adventures of Raindance Maggie The Thrill is Gone Gimme Shelter
  19. I feel your pain, Chazite. The save file, as pointed out by flameout101, is: C:> Program Files(x86) > Steam > userdata > (your ID number) > 221680 > Remote My desktop now sports a RS backup folder and a shortcut to the Remote file.
  20. Thanks for the info, Jamie. I had no idea that corrupted save files were such a common RS problem! I guess I'd been lucky until yesterday. Had I known, I certainly would have backed up my save file regularly. Hopefully, this thread will reach some people who, like me, were blissfully unaware that they're one crash away from being zeroed out. I will certainly check out the thread you mentioned and backup my save file on a regular basis from now on!!! Yeah, I mostly use non-stop play, but it's nice to sort by mastery or number of plays sometimes. Also, having to stop and boost the dd up every time, some time spent in guitarcade, etc.
  21. I just had RS2014 crash. No biggee, it happens from time to time, right? Wrong. When I restarted RS2014 I got the message that my save file was corrupted. So, I'm now zeroed out in EVERYTHING like I've never played the game before. And I've played A LOT. Bummer. Which brings up a couple of points: 1) BACK UP YOUR SAVE FILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2) Where is the aforementioned save file located so that I/we can back it up occasionally so that this never happens to me or anyone else again? 3) And, I think I'm screwed/overwritten now, but is there some way to get my saves back?
  22. I noticed this, too. Has anyone played it since the update? Edit: Works fine, though it didn't start up the first time I tried it.
  23. I'd be happy to test anything on bass or guitar.
  24. Just kicked in a few more bucks. Looking at the users of CF earlier, there were 125 people online, 18 of which were marked as contributing in some way (donator, magna charter, mod, developer, admin, etc.) Not all charters have a particular color right now, so I don't know how many "charters in white" there were, but 18/125 comes to about 14%. Even if 18 charters in white are assumed, 36/125 is still less than 3 out of 10 who have contributed charts/money/time/effort. My point being, if you spend much time on the site and/or download more than a few songs, please consider contributing of either your time and/or your money. I tried charting way back when, but gave up after many frustrating and unproductive hours. That being the case, I give money and try to leave useful and constructive comments on CDLCs. TL/DR: If you're not charting/administering/moderating/developing/organizing, donate money to the cause.
