  1. Okay, I dove into the advanced and masterclass. Geezer Butler's bass part on War Pigs is definitely an all-timer for me. What an epic song: And Nevermore...wow. The funny thing is that I suggested this song because the other Symphony X tracks I looked at were actually even crazier:
  2. A few starters before I get into the harder songs: AM have tons of great tunes and fun charts...this isn't even close to my favorite from them but it's still a fun beginner tune. I did have some recognition issues, oh well: And this might be the best ever broken heart song...so beautiful it almost makes me wish I was a jilted lover. The world lost an incredible artist too soon - he would only be 54 today and imagine all the great music he would have made in the last 24 years. RIP Jeff Buckley:
  3. As a relatively recent (less than a year) participant and even more recent organizer crew member, big thank you to @Rodman and all the other organizers over the years who have kept this thing going. I'm so glad I found the Championship as it has pushed me to improve my bass playing skills (from beginner to finishing second on the advanced song several times) and has also introduced me to a variety of good music. Rock on and I hope you all enjoy this week!
  4. So I had the craziest Score Attack run...had my best start on This Life, was up to a 50+ multiplier with only like 1 missed note halfway through the song. Then suddenly the backing track completely dropped out but the bass tone and note track were still working. I continued to play and played through a whole section before the backing track suddenly came back and I was thrown back to the place where it had dropped out. I played the same section again and finished the song with what I thought was 99+% accuracy. Then I saw this: Not really sure what to do with this...I guess it has to be thrown out but it was my best run on the song. I played again and got a decent accuracy but definitely less than that magical run:
  5. Well then I'm glad I asked No worries mate, I'm certainly not opposed to criticism as long as I understand the reason for it. If I choose a song with a bad chart, bad tones, rate difficulty wrong, etc. I do want to know about it so I can do better. But thanks and I'm glad you feel like this week's songs are helping you to expand your skills.
  6. Would you elaborate please? I can understand if something isn't your cup of tea, although these songs cover a pretty diverse range with several different genres and decades. But saying you're "not very impressed" implies criticism of my selections and seeing as how I spent a good deal of time developing the theme and then choosing and testing the songs, that feels a bit insulting.
  7. Last two first runs for me - Intermediate and Intermediate Bonus: This one is from the first Smashing Pumpkins album...the lyrics touch on suffering as a sort of mirror and a way to both see who you really are and to grow as a person: And Buried Alive from A7X - generally typical murky/quasi-horror themed lyrics from this band but captures the tedium and grappling with death that came with the pandemic:
  8. @OrkkongenYou have to consider note density when determining which songs are "easiest". Buried Alive has a ton of notes so it's not too difficult to score in the high 90s but it has enough challenge to be in the 5/6 intermediate category IMO. As for Kalopsia, I struggled initially with rating its difficulty for bass. The song is basically two thirds easy beginner difficult, then there are two short sections that I would consider intermediate level, and the one very short section at the very end that is more advanced. So to me it's borderline between beginner and intermediate, but with the new change to bass class being 1-4 for beginner I think it was a much easier call.
  9. A few initial tries for me, all from today: First, this lovely and eccentric tune from what is IMO the best QOTSA album...this one was written by Josh Homme to his daughters about "saying goodbye to dark days" which is hopefully what we will be doing as the world continues to recover from the pandemic: Another great track from a really strong Vampire Weekend album. This one has some incredible, poetic lyrics about coming to grips with suffering and pain (some of it self-caused, some not) when you thought maybe it wouldn't happen to you: And Stone Cold Digital, which has a very different vibe but in its own way hits at some of the frustration with being stuck in a sort of virtual, screen-driven daze, which the pandemic has definitely exacerbated: More to come with Suffer and Buried Alive...
  10. @Radekore @arrov You are two of my favorite creators and the effort and care you put into your CDLC is evident. Glad you stopped by and know that you are appreciated!
  11. I should have mentioned here that I chose Suffer for the Championship this week - but I see you already found your way to it @arrov Only the bass part is in this week's competition but I have put the lead and rhythm paths in reserve for a future competition. Thanks again for all the excellent Pumpkins CDLC!
  12. Thanks @Miksonfor sharing your ratings. It seems Stone Cold Digital fits clearly at Intermediate instead of Advanced on lead, so I will move that one to Intermediate Bonus and unveil my backup..... JAWBREAKER (see OP for update)
  13. Yes, fair warning to everyone else - Kalopsia lulls you to sleep with like 3+ minutes of difficulty 2-ish and then goes more like int/adv level at the very end.
  14. Let me know how you find Stone Cold Digital...I'm not convinced it's advanced level. If I get feedback to that effect I have a backup advanced song for lead.
  15. I hope everyone enjoys this week. It's a theme based on some of the frustrations and feelings that the pandemic has brought me. I didn't get to thoroughly test all the lead and rhythm parts so let me know if you have any feedback. I'm not 100% sure about Stone Cold Digital given the tuning but the bass part is fun if your bass can get down to A std (I have a 5-string).

  17. Sorry for the delay - new week will be up shortly. ...and, it's up!
  18. FYI I’m not yet done with next week’s selections so everyone will have a bit more time this week. I will post the new week by ~midnight CET and give a heads up an hour or so beforehand.
  19. Well done @Mikson and @diceslinger passing me on Franklin's Tower! I had a really good run going with 300+ streak to start the song only to lose my rhythm in the second half and finish lower than my previous score. Oh well, I'll try again today. Meanwhile, I had a blast playing through Master of Puppets...well, after Battery which is my least favorite song on the album. I choked a bit on Orion but otherwise I'm proud of my score. Much respect to those who actually played the whole album on Score Attack.
  20. Got to the masterclass song...Klone is quickly becoming my favorite prog band thanks to @albatross213:
  21. First tries for the week though two of these I've played a few times before: Surprisingly fun: A classic song, even after several plays the rhythm is tricky:
  22. Too little too late but I did manage some improvement on Animals:
  23. Wow...fantastic selections this week! Muffin Man and Master of Puppets full album should be a hell of a ride for the masterclass lead guitarists.
  24. Welcome to the Championship! Those are some really good sight read scores. I would suggest you start at advanced, or maybe intermediate if you're not convinced. Let us know and we'll update the leaderboards.
  25. I'm glad everyone seems to be enjoying the songs this week. My first tries for the week: This would technically not be allowable as I took the screenshot too late but I'm not competing on beginner: Such a good song and band: This is also one of my favorite Muse songs and the best one off 2nd Law IMO: I didn't have a chance to test this before the week started but it was really nice to play...well done @Nacholede: I won't come close to winning on this late 80s classic but I'm proud of this attempt. I think I could do a bit better with practice but not much: (also, fun fact: Edie Brickell is married to Paul Simon)
