  1. I'll continue working on this either way but if you are interested in helping out, feel free to take your pick, make a transcription and send it my way. That's pretty much all you'd have to do. Of course you'd get full credit and have my eternal gratidute. If I already have made a bass transcription I could also send you the GP file to work with and put the guitar part in there. Just let me know. The same goes for everyone else willing to help out.
  2. I've been planning to do "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" to get some slap practice. Easy transcription, so I should be able to do it soon. :D
  3. Hey guys, I thought I'd ask here if anybody's interested in helping me out with my Iron Butterfly discography project? I might be good at transcribing bass parts but I always struggle with making guitar transcriptions, so I'd need some help from someone interested in doing that. Even if it's just for a few of the songs, that'd be more than cool. Let me know, if someone wants to help.
  4. Oh yeah that one...I have it in my 'transcriptions sites' folder but it's not really the "best-looking" site (I find it very poorly structured) I never paid much attention to it...guess I'll have to take a serious look. It might not look like much but the transcriptions are solid. I got the notation for my Wilson Pickett customs from that site and apart from a few corrections they were spot on.
  5. Here's the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgyyCsLLLOY6dENJZzg1bEtoLXBDc2xBZHk5M0lDdGc&usp=sharing It's basically all speculation. Not sure if that helps with converting tones from RS1 to RS2. I can't provide any other help, sorry.
  6. @justgimmethefunk: awesome list of links. I just know one site which isn't on your list (http://freebasspart.pv24.pagesperso-orange.fr/Bass_Players.htm; you'll probably love me for this B) ) but I also never did a thorough search to find more because I like to transcribe them myself anyway, even if it's just for practice. That said, I'm always open for helping out with bass transcriptions should the need arise and I can find the time. Just let me know. ;) @majikman: Maybe a special Bassolympics besides the regular one with just one song per week? Let's discuss it with the others.
  7. I wouldn't mind asking the guys who are part of the CRC to help out, I just didn't think of it because they all have their own stuff to work on, so they won't necessarily have the time. Also, not sure how many of them are good enough at transcribing to really help me out but it shouldn't hurt to ask. ;) Thanks for giving me the idea.
  8. There's some stuff in here that goes more in the direction of jazz/fusion which might not totally fit the bill but I'm not a genre nazi and I actually like that it's included here as well. Also, thanks for taking the time to make the thread and fyi, "What Is Hip?" is a WIP on the other forum. GTLO made the custom and I reworked some parts of the bass line but he wanted to do the guitar parts as well, so that is why there's no official release yet. :)
  9. Haven't done any work on it yet, because I'll need to put it all into a GP file first and that's tiresome but I try to do it soon.
  10. http://www.allgigs.co.uk/images/object/artist/72071/Iron_Butterfly-1-200-200-100-crop.gif Time for another project, that I can sporadically work on whenever I feel the need. :) Iron Butterfly has been one of my favorite bands ever since I got into music from the 60s and 70s. As famous as they are for "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", most people don't even know anything else about them. So, I think it's fair to say, that they are still extremely underrated because the songwriting and musicianship was a lot stronger than they are usually given credit for. The songs may be short and simplistic for the most part but there's not a single one on their first four albums (let's just disregard their two mid 70's busts) that I don't care for. Especially the tunes on "Ball" are catchy as hell and really every song has a bass line that adds movement and excitement to the track in a way that it seldom does in other bands. I would say Organ and Bass were most definitely the central elements of almost every song. The guitar always stays back, has a lot of reverb and isn't up front in the mix like the bass, so you can always make out those amazing lines by Jerry Penrod, who left after "Heavy", and then Lee Dorman. Both were amazing bass players and had a very similar style, so for a long time I always thought it was the same guy playing on all the albums, when in fact every member apart from band leader Doug Ingle left before they recorded their second album. The big question remains, if I like them so much, why have I never even tried to make a custom of one of their tracks before? Well, when I started out making customs, I couldn't transcribe yet and their weren't any good tabs around (and there still aren't), so I had no choice to move on to other stuff. After I got the hang of transcribing bass parts, I was still hung up on always trying to deliver full packages that include arrangements for all instruments, so I put it on hold until I would be able to transcribe the guitar parts as well. I've improved a lot since then but, tbh, I still have trouble with guitar parts and I'm tired of waiting, so I figured: fuck this shit, I'm just gonna make bass only customs because that's what I really was interested in from the start. I think no other band has inspired me more to become a bass player and even after learning so many different bass lines and styles, I still find the bass work on those IB tracks awe inspiring. They make me crab my bass every time I fire up a track wishing I could play along now but alas, I'm not that good. So, grunt work it is and because I couldn't decide on where to start or which songs to "customize", I just figured, I'd do them all and proceed chronologically. When I say, I'll do them all, I'm probably lying, but we'll have to see how far I can get. Obviously, I won't work on this continuously but I'll try to do at least one or two each month. 11. I really have to do some KC one of these days. Although my list is full of Prog songs, I haven't released much of them because it's usually a very difficult genre and thus a lot of work to get it right but I'll definitely try to bring some of it into RS. Also, I really need to update my spreadsheet but with the excellent search feature on here, it's not that relevant anymore. :D
  12. The newest toolkit versions are very unstable, so I would go back to an earlier one that worked for you. I had the same issue and that was the only way to keep working.
  13. If you mean the menu option File > Display > Display, which gives the choices of 640x480, 800x600 & 1024x768, that one's always worked for me on Mac... Or is there an extra manual enter-whatever-you-want field on the windows build? There's a greyed out option in that menu as well which let's you adjust the screen width manually; that's what raynebc is talking about. Changing the value in the cfg leads to no issues, so it's safe to reactivate it, which will make it possible to change the value from inside the app. It's just a matter of convenience.
  14. Changing it in the cfg did the trick. Thanks, Alex.
  15. Mac version is working now, so thanks a lot for fixing it, @@th1rtyf0ur. I just wish it were possible to set your own screen width like in the win version.
  16. Still not working but this time it seems to be related to the audio codec libraries. Process: eof [1028] Path: /Applications/Audio/*/EOF.app/Contents/MacOS/eof Identifier: eof Version: ??? 17. Regarding compiling with Allegro for standalone use, I found this: http://alleg.sourceforge.net/stabledocs/en/abi.html Maybe that helps.
  18. I guess, I'll have to install the Allegro libraries then. Could you post a short explanation of how to do that and which version to install?

  20. Great update, raynebc. Now I don't need to shy away from grace notes anymore when doing my transcriptions. ;)
  21. Yeah, I thought so. Well, I would just stick to what GP 5 supports then. Most techniques are not relevant for grace notes anyway.
  22. Here's an example you can find in practically any song book: http://i.imgur.com/PEK2O1H.jpg They are less common in GP files however but can be made to look that way (at least in GP 6). I'd need a sample GP file. In Guitar Pro 5, I cannot find that the grace note itself can be individually selected to have the same range of techniques normal notes can. The grace note dialog only allows the grace note to be specified as a slide/bend or that the note following it is played as a hammer on or pull off. Also, GP allows the grace note to be defined as a 16th, 32nd or even a 64th note, it's not limited to 32nd (that's only the default duration). Regarding linknext status with bend grace notes, does anybody have any thoughts on whether tech notes need to be involved? At least in GP 6 it is possible to apply every technique to a grace note that a regular note can have as well and I also can't see any way to change the duration of a grace note, so that must have changed drastically from GP 5 to 6. I've produce a test file where I applied every relevant technique that EoF can handle to grace notes but it doesn't seem to export to the GP 5 format because it's not supported. Here's picture of all the techniques when applied to grace notes in GP 6: http://i.imgur.com/2QKkE8s.jpg And here are the test files: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/e2otzhp1k7l1coy/AADCoqptEGJoeVk8X3yHQBfHa?dl=0 One is in gpx and one in gp5 format.
  23. A lot of tab books have tabs where grace notes are used when bends are starting quickly. I'll look for an example and post it here. When I put them into GP myself however I always put the bend on the regular note and I've never really seen them in GP files, tbh.
  24. In GP grace notes can have techniques applied to them, so ideally the imported notes should have those techniques applied to them if they can be read; if not it would suffice to import them as regular notes without any special techniques applied but it seems you already handled that. Grace notes in GP are also equal to 32nd notes, so that should be their ideal length on import. Depending on the type of grace note it should fall on the connected note or come shortly before that. Bended grace notes should probably be separate notes connected with LinkNext so they are easier to handle or delete if wanted.
