Anyone in here have (or had) a jamplay membership? I got a code in a guitar string pack, wich I think is for a one month membership. I'm just curious wich lessons are worth it for an intermediate guitar player. Any recommendations? Preferably some blues/jazz/acoustic (rag/fingerstyle) lessons.

Let me know if someone knows a RS streamer where you can hear the guitar playing over the music. Most, when I look, are just a radio station, you don't hear them actually playing. I don't mind people making mistakes or learning songs but i'm not going to watch a stream if I can't hear the guitar, I can just turn on spotify at that point.

Yet you are already hung to a belief system by chosing one instrument, genre and music system. You are tying groove to your instrument, not to sound in general. The music system tied with the instrument or the western music system is already a belief system. If you really want to find the groove you have to let go of everything and reinvent it. Else you are just looking for the essence trough an already established music system. If that is not your true goal, then you might aswell delve into the theory and book-groove because it is what other people before you have done to find their groove, book-groove comes from other people's experiences just like what you are trying to do. You are already trying to find the groove trough other people's songs, there is no shame in that. The musical system is just that, a quest for the groove, whatever that may mean to someone. For some people it means different things, that's why we have an abundance of genres. If you truly want to find groove you might even delve into physics and find out what makes up sounds, how they are created trough instruments, how frequencies affect people, but wich again, is settings bounds. Wich doesn't seem like you want to, but overlook.

Everyone else had to learn how to make tabs (wich isn't even hard if you already have them in text) so I suggest you do the same if you want to make CDLC's. Because eventually you'll have to use it, since it's easier to correct a tab than changing things in EOF. You'll maybe have to spend 30min to figuring things out and you'll be good to go. Just ask if you run into problems and I'm sure people will be happy to help

A setup done by somebody who is used to do it shouldn't take much longer than one hour (probably even less) if there are no major issues. The question is wether they have time to do it that day, so it's probably best to ask what day they would and if it's possible to bring your guitar then instead of leaving it there until they have time. But I'm guessing that will depend on the shop/guy doing the setup because they might just do it randomly between other jobs. But can't hurt to ask. Might even be worth asking to be present when they do it

Could be because of the audio exclusivity settings. Try turning it off in the audio engine settings if it's on.

Don't know why I didn't mention this in my first reply, but this. If you are new to guitar playing you probably won't even notice this has a big influence on how you play. And in my opinion it's very counter productive realising you had the fingering wrong the entire time while you are leveling up the song. This too. RR is just such a waste of time most of the time it's ridiculous. @@chili_time also I'm not sure if you are aware, but you can get all the tabs from cdlc's with the toolkit. Very handy imo so I tought I should mention it.

I was going to use DD for the first dlc's I made but it left out notes for some reason so I just never bothered to use it again after that. Also, to make it work properly for more complex songs is not that easy. Auto-generating DD is fast but isn't really DD as you should set up semi-identical phrases yourself if you want to make it work properly (if I remember correctly at least) I also never use DD myself. I think it's useless to be honest. It doesn't add anything. Unless RS is the first time you ever played guitar there is really no reason to ever use it, and even then I don't think you should even use it. Riff Repeater is 100x better for learning a song. Even tough I dislike the long intro's riff repeater has to even start the phrases you want to learn, specially if you tone down the speed. So I barely even like RR for that sole reason. I can learn a song 10 times faster with just using tabblature. I think they should really consider a new and better feature in the next installment of RS. Like showing the whole phrase at once like with tabblature instead of you having to wait for the notes, then completely get confused because you still suck at sightreading :D and just waste time to repeat the whole thing without having learned a single thing. But that's just my experience with it

Just copy all different parts over to one of the tracks in gp5 so you have everything on one track.

if your amp has an aux-in I don't see any problem with that. I'm curious tough. Why would you want to still use RS while using backing tracks? Just plug your guitar in your amp. Or you can buy an external sound device for your guitar, wich will give you much better options than RS when you use software to create your own guitar sounds with amps/pedals etc from the software. You'll even be able to record your playing that way. You can get a descent device with software (usually a light version tough) included for around €100-150

Are you sure you are not using the default tone in the toolkit? That usually causes a cdlc to freeze after tuning from what I remember. Or maybe accidentally put your tone in the 2nd slot instead of changing it for the default tone, happened to me too

I see, makes sense to why songs stay selected. Since I tought it was a bug. It's not really a problem now that I know what causes it, so it's easy to work around, but I assume most people that use the move function for the first time won't know what happens. And don't take it as me saying you what to do, I'm just trying to give some options on what would be possible to fix the issue, maybe making your job easier in the process. I know most fixes aren't as easy as writing/removing one line of code :D I assume you mean the feature in the list of songs of a setlist. Because this does not work for the songs in the [master songs] list, wich is where the problem comes from, and I don't think there is any button to deselect all songs in that list. Not sure if I should post this here too but while I'm at it, I tested the [select/deselect all] function in the song list of a setlist and I got this error. I also updated CFmanager and the other issues I posted errors for seem to be solved, so thanks for that!

Yeah I was the user requesting to have move function back :D I wasn't trying to move a song to the same setlist again, but it happened because the moved songs stay selected while being moved down the list, so I never noticed this while I was moving other songs to the setlist. If you have a lot of songs in the list you don't see they are still selected unless you go look all the way down the list, making it so you can easily remove the songs without knowing what happened. I only noticed why it happens because I was trying to figure out why the songs vanished and only used 5 of them to test things out, so I saw the songs I moved to a setlist stayed selected and moved down the list. So if you go on making setlists without knowing this it can be confusing because songs will just appear to vanish. If it's less work, I think it would be enough to make sure the songs deselect after moving them so you can't accidentally delete them this way. Also If you re-enable and disable the option [show setlist song] they get hidden from the list but as soon as you move other songs to a setlist they appear again and are selected. So in this case the songs should be deselected as well. If the issue of setlist songs staying selected would be solved it would be enough to solve the problem in my opinion. I assume this would be an easier fix, and maybe just add a prompt when people try to move songs already in a setlist.

I'm also getting an error when I try to disable my setlists

I might start putting up the thread slowely with what I already got. Wich still isn't really that much at the moment, but it might be easier for people to ask more specific questions on what they want to have explained, or ways to practice certain parts. I'm also starting from the very basics, like explaining the fretboard / intervals / how to build chords and scales, and I'm not sure if a lot of people will have a lot of help from it since I have no idea what the general knowledge is from people on the forum and no way to really gauge it. Or if people are even interested in it. But I want it to be a guide for new, to more intermediate players so I have no choice rather than really to start from the very basics.

He has said that all open strings buzz except for the B and high e strings. I seem to remember that he also said that his fingers would go under the others strings when bending. That's a pretty uncomfortable feeling :o Yeah, fingers going under strings while bending is defenitly too high action. I tought the bridge looked fairly high. Only open strings buzzing defenitly sounds like the neck has the wrong bow / is too straight.

You should probably add the problem with this guitar again. Wich strings have the buzz sound? At what frets? What did you already try? etc.. Any info you can think of really so we can try to help

So I think there are a few issues with this function. I'm trying to figure out what exactly happens but so far I got this moving a cdlc to a setlist that is already in a setlist removes the file. I assume It's completely removed from the HDD when it happens because they are impossible to find and it happens without any notification. Regarding this issue, after moving a song to a setlist, mostly all of them stay selected in the Master song window, making it so if you don't notice you can accidentally remove your cdlc files without being able to recover them. They also move all the way at the bottom of the list, so if you have many cdlc files in the list it's hard to notice this After moving songs to a setlist they stay selected AND visible, even tough the option [show setlist songs] is disabled. If you re-enable and disable the option they get hidden from the list but as soon as you move other songs to a setlist they appear again AND are selected (making them prone to being removed again if you don't notice) List [master songs] sometimes doesn't seem to update and shows moved songs as duplicates. As in the moved songs appear as in a setlist (with the yellow tag) and are still there as not in the setlist (without the yellow tag). Switching tabs and coming back refreshes the list tough Sometimes songs won't update as setlist songs in the [master song] list after moving them to a setlist. I think this only happens when moving a big amount of songs in one time to a setlist. The list updates properly when switching tabs, just like the previous issue. I'm also getting this error a lot while figuring out some of the problems [spoiler with details of error below]

Been playing with that software, it makes a HUGE difference! Nice! good to hear the suggestions helped

It would surprise me a truss rodd would break, unless a top piece broke off and you have visual confirmation for it. It's an iron bar, so if anything, everything else on your guitar would break first. And since the rodd keeps your neck in shape, I think you would notice quite fast because of the neck if something was up with the truss rod. Also messing with the truss rod won't show that much visual change since you should only change it in very small increments. A buzzing string can have a few causes so it's hard to help without actually seeing the issue, it's only by trying different things that you can find what's affecting it. If you really can't fix the buzzing after watching all those videos and trying different things it might be worth it to just take the guitar to a guitar shop. Specially if it's a nut problem

Not sure if I completely follow. But if you mean just not hearing the bass, you might want to try an equaliser to boost the lower frequencies of a song. I myself use this equalizer https://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/ with this GUI plugin https://sourceforge.net/projects/peace-equalizer-apo-extension/ And ofcourse, use a quality headphone for listening to music, it really makes a big difference. If you can, also use high quality sound files like flac instead of mp3, they do sound a lot better.

Playing by ear requires a lot of practice. The best thing you can do is practice chord progressions to get used to the sounds. The problem is with more complicated songs that will change key during the song, but for basic songs just practicing the Harmonized Major Scale is one of the best thing to do. Also just listening to a song and trying to play a melody by ear will go a long way in getting used to certain sounds. There are also some more common chord movements, as in, chords that lean towards another chord because of their sound. Many Rock/Blues guitar songs, use a basic progression, I-IV-V7. So it is good to really practice this specific progression untill you get a feel for the sound and can spot it in a song. In Jazz for example the most important chord progression is ii-V7-I. And in a Jazz song this progression will move trough different keys. I suggest practicing different chord progressions with up to 3 chords to start with. Practice chord progressions with attention to the sounds, don't just play over a song, play by yourself without any other music and get a feel for the progression and play them with a clean guitar sound. Chords are really not just what make a song, to a certain extend, it's the movement of chords that establish how a song will sound. If you have further questions just ask, since I do not know how much of theory you know what I am saying might be very confusing. I'll also note that you should practice playing the same chord progression in different keys. A good way for this is using the circle of 4ths. What do I mean with this? Well, a 4th is a distance between 2 notes [5 half steps]. So if you start with the key of C, the next key you want to practice in you will find by moving 5 half steps further, wich gives you the key of F. Once you played the progression in the key of F, you do the same, move up 5 half steps and play the same progression in the next key, wich is Bb, and so on. All the way until you come back to the key of C. A good way to practice is to play the progression twice in one key, then move on to the next key. A post a while back asked how to break free from Rocksmith and play guitar in the "real world". This motivated me to do a small write up of things you should know about understanding music, the guitar and how to play it. Since I know how it is to struggle at first with the massive amount of information I'm trying to condense it while trying to keep things more visual. I know you can already find everything you ever want to know on the internet but this will be a write-up to guide you into some basic music theory and how it translates it to the guitar (and how to incorporate it into meaningfull excercices), hopefully helping some of you in your quests to become a better guitar player! Since I am making this for you guys, I was wondering, what do you mainly have problems with? Or are there specific things you want to see explained? I will post the guide once I feel enough of the basics are covered so you can start to see how everything falls together. I feel there is not really a point in starting to post just parts of it because you will want to know how everything is connected, and posting parts might just confuse you even more. Once I do, it will be a Work In Progress, so people can ask questions wich will help me add more information if needed. But I'm striving to make it as easy to comprehend as possible from the start, so hopefully not much addition will be needed.

Never say never. Know Django Reinhardt by any chance? He's considered to be in the top guitar players. Now here's the funny thing, he only had 3 fingers on his left hand, and he plays like this.... ---------------------------------------------------------------- Now, back on topic. Doesn't look too hard of a song, specially with tabs I could learn it fairly fast (like an hour at most) Playing by ear I really can't tough, but I'm in the process of learning how to do it. Since I'm in the process of writing a basic tutorial for music theory, I'm curious. What do you think you would have problems with for learning that song?

Well, you clearly identified the problem. Stop being lazy! Just don't stick to one routine. Try different things, see what goes for you. Switch from RS to some scale practice, maybe a bit of theory to keep it interesting, learn some licks, play some backing tracks, create your own song. There is a lot you can do, practicing should never be boring. 6hours/day is also not that good imo. If you learn new chords/scales you need time anyway to get used to it / muscle memory. You won't be able to learn the same thing in 6hours on one day better than spreading it over a couple days. Learning takes time, it's not an instant process.
