How do you guys remember songs?

Self-Taught bassist, been playing for 6 years, only really got involved in the last 4 years. I can memorize only certain songs (couple Metallica, Black Sabbath, Tool, songs like that) but cant seem to memorize very hard/long songs or basic songs perfectly.

Anytips on how I can get to memorize songs?

find the repetitive or similar pattern first and know when you have to play them (drums break or lyrics that triggers it) is a good place to start and works very well for classic songs with a verse and chorus.

You'll have to play it again and again too until it becomes natural to play the next note once you play the first one.

For very complex part, scale is a good thing to figure out so that even if you don't know the exact phrasing you can still play without it sounding off and that allow you to create the melody that seems more logical to you than what was originally done cause nobody cares if you play it 100% the same as long as it sounds good and close enough.
