  3. Lots of beer, don't forget the beer binge before the show :)
  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xD5dHC2jgw @ :31 @3:39 and the thumbnail, That right there looks like some pretty freaky chord structures, and Angus Young kinda makes them look easy. . . Plus while the video @ posted has "live footage,' its still just a music video, and if you think artists take music videos seriously back then...well, watch the drummer here, and Drummers, tell me hes drumming correctly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xZOrWK6d4g and heres a screenshot of @:39 http://s23.postimg.org/gdhh8fcii/Screenshot_1.jpg And there is a HUGE difference in tone when you dont play that chord correctly, or in an easier way, sure you might find a way to get the same note and same sound, but the tone can change drastically. Plus here's a question, Angus Young isnt stupid at guitar writing nor is he a beginner at guitar, why didnt he write and/or play an "easier" version of the chords? I also think too Angus was one of the famous guitar players for using his thumb on the frets, he was also big on using playing two strings for tremolos, Its really useful to learn these techniques, it can build your comfort and your skills as an artist Take spider chords for example, theyre hard As fill-in-the-blank to learn, and you can learn a much simpler way to play the exact same chord structure, but the tone is so much more sloppy unless you dont use the spider chords.
  5. Keep goinghttp://s17.postimg.org/xy66b5bdb/2014_11_24_00002.jpg
  6. This whole AC/DC conversation reminds me of Jimmy Paige and Rock Band/Guitar Hero, he never let Led Zeppelin music on there because he wants people to learn the official real version. Which is probably why wont ever see a zeppelin pack on Rocksmith, he wants people to play the real version of Stairway to Heaven, Bad Dog, Immigrant Song, etc, Not some "easier" version that the people at Ubisoft might put together for Rocksmith. I say keep the version of Moneytalks as it is for the tournament, unless Angus Young himself comes on here and says its wrong and posts the correct version. This song was requested by one of us, and instead of B****ing about how correct it is suck it up and play it. Its a hard week for everybody, and this week is going to make those that practice these songs and work hard better and those that want "the easier version" to be below us, and im fine with that. Adversity makes you better, not comfort. To quote a Tool song, "I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me. And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been. We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been." So spiral your guitar playing out, and keep going.
  7. Curious what mystery note im missing at the end...keep missing a random note at the end, every timehttp://s8.postimg.org/ftn7owtvp/2014_11_23_00002.jpg
  8. No problem! i will get that advice And here's my score....i totally missed it, my high strings hate me and they are REALLY hard to bend because there's a lot of tension. I will have to change the high strings for 0.10 gauge, so it will got an hybrid set of strings on my guitar http://i.imgur.com/TFMTdnE.jpg Well glad to see im in the ballpark for this song :) I'ma re-string my Dean and see what i can do, might have to break out the whammy bar
  9. The bass line is cool :)http://s2.postimg.org/oium8mlmx/2014_11_22_00002.jpg But dang, this MC lead is whipping my butt, cant finish in SA due to 12's not wanting to bend http://s4.postimg.org/r1700s1h9/2014_11_22_00001.jpg

  11. I'm uploading my video now, it should be up in about,,,,,575 minutes. I didnt 100% the video, just wanted to show the track i have. Its crossbolts version of the beautiful people. My only guess is that the song was updated from March 20,2014 to March 27, 2014(since there is only one version) and since its such a popular song some people may have already downloaded the March 20th version and never bothered to update? I listened to the song, the bass track doesnt have any extra notes. If people want their "wins" on top of me thats fine. The "Official" leaders are @@Mortalo for advanced bass and nobody for Beginner Bass, but i'm more than happy to give up my "lead"
  12. One to break the record http://s28.postimg.org/h9f5tyrgd/2014_11_19_00005.jpg one to extend the record(and 100% all bass) http://s17.postimg.org/62calr4hb/2014_11_19_00004.jpg
  13. Did somebody order a 100%? one more for the recordhttp://s7.postimg.org/qpj3t6orv/2014_11_19_00003.jpg
  14. We need more MC players! I think it should be everybodys goal to get into MC one day. I used the competition to push myself to get those 99%'s to advance(which, after looking at the leaderboards, it looks like I'm the first one to advance all 3 classes with a 99(?) and advance into MC(?) as far as the Bee Gee's song, either it is that easy, or you guys are all just getting better on guitar. I honestly think its the latter, just because we play all of these songs 5-10 times a week(one guy playing a song 100 times). Thats a lot of work on your guitar and your fingers, and that's creating a lot of muscle memory. We all learn at different rates and some of us learn faster than others. Although with others who want to do well but can't right now, @@punchyrumble might have the right idea with a break for a couple of weeks/months. I did the same in my High School band, and my comeback was so amazing, i shredded the xylophone, and really got me into my love for music. So if and when you come back, lets just say i called it when you start tearing up the leader boards. We are all good people on these forums, but the frustration of competition is a given, (I hope @ gets into MC, you're a good rival :P.) So nobody should feel bad and or terrible if somebody feels over/underwhelmed by this competition. Maybe he/she's guitar'd out, too much learning/playing for it to be meaningful anymore. I do encourage everybody to play for pleasure still, and not just for competing. It ruins the essence of the guitar, and you never have any other outlet for your skills. I've written some sick riffs and vastly improved my songs i've written with what i've learned now. It's fun as always, but i'm always up for another challenge.
  15. http://s12.postimg.org/5nar8mr4t/then3verend_lead.jpg Sorry advanced class you had to deal with one more week of me trying to get into MC, while the competition's been fun my goal was to go from Beginner to MC in every class when I entered this competition. I learned quite a few techniques along the way to give these MC "gods" a run for their money. To be fair, beginner and intermediate both had to endure a week of me trying to advance. I like how i have to 99% a metallica song to probably play a bunch more metallica songs in MC.
  16. Edited, while the score isnt high enough, i got the 100%http://s18.postimg.org/50adry2k9/2014_11_19_00001.jpg
  17. Speaking of getting 99% to get into MC. . . . http://s27.postimg.org/ioxoycrhv/2014_11_18_00001.jpg Cue Song #2 by Blur and Champagne, I'm getting called up to the guitar Big Leagues
  18. I didnt intentionally break my streak on little monster, I just legitamitely couldnt get chord recognition on that song, I was seriously bummed out and am trying to get 99% to overcome my sadness
  19. This is good for the competition as it forces players who normally wouldn't try these songs to try them and it also lets them see where they are as a guitarist. I am not trying to put anyone down by stating what I said, I am just merely trying to make people aware that they need to step outside their comfort zone if they want to become a good guitarist. I will give an example here. Imagine for a second that playing guitar was like baseball and the player being the pitcher. Pitchers have to practice all types of pitches to be a good pitcher and they practice for years before they even make it to the majors. Imagine a pitcher who only knew how to throw a 96 MPH fastball.... sure that one pitch may take him into the majors but if he doesn't have other pitches he can rely on, once the hitters get used to his 96MPH fastball the pitcher is done and the batters will be belting home runs off him every pitch(exaggeration I know but just for an example). Now take that same pitcher and teach him how to maintain his fastball but add a few curveballs/sliders/changeups into the mix and all of a sudden the pitcher just became a menace to all the batters. Its the same idea with guitar. You can be a great lead guitarist and bust out impressive solos on the fly and play scales like no ones business but what if someone asks you to play a song with a few basic chords and you can't? Now you look like a inexperienced guitarist because you can't do something that most guitarists can do with ease. Another analogy is it being like a baby trying to run before it learns how to walk. Point i am trying to make is everyone needs to practice what they want to learn and guitar is no different. If you want to be an accomplished guitarist there is no way around learning chords so seeing a song with an abundance of them is great in my opinion and should be something that people want to see so that it helps them learn what they need to learn. And just to emphasize this: PLAY THE MINI GAMES, they will help you develop the chord skills every guitarist needs. TLDR i know but blah Because of this tournament, i've learned and become more comfortable with Barre Chords, probably my biggest flaw in my guitar playing skills, Ive also gotten really good in Standard E, I've played mostly in Drop D for the last 2 years. As far as recognition goes, large heavy picks seem to detect chords better than small ones, although thats just from my personal preference. Also it seems the better quality pick ups make a difference too. My $400 Dean Razorback misses a lot less than my $80 Epiphone
  20. http://s13.postimg.org/c6goxw04n/2014_11_17_00007.jpgGetting close to that 99%
  21. That feeling when you post a score higher then Nachohttp://s12.postimg.org/aonfau3wd/2014_11_17_00004.jpg
  22. so i cant get note recognition on Little Monster anymore, so im done but ima remember you for that one @ Still hate the fact that i have the higher score, but losing to a 6 higher note streak
  23. I keep stumbling on stupid stuff now, time for a break http://s8.postimg.org/h8vog9ch1/2014_11_13_00002.jpg EDIT: as an aside, this is how i feel playing a song to get 100% https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQK1lqWQ9bA
  24. I'ma try to 100% later today, when I do i'll reveal my method for the 'bends of hell' in the post
  25. First show was. . .Toby Keith, my how my taste in music has changed In order of what ive seen Godsmack on Halloween(that was awesome) Three Dog Night(4th of July) Peter Frampton and Yes(4th of July) Queensryche(Operation Mindcrime 1 and 2 fullly played) Metallica(Death Magnetic Tour) Anthrax('Big 4 minus metallica tour) Megadeth(Big 4 minus metallica tour...oh and they played Rust in Peace beginning to end) Slayer(Big 4 Minus Metallica tour...oh and they played seasons in the abyss beginning to end, and Dave was still drumming) Thin Lizzy(Warmed up for Judas Priest) Black Label Society(Warmed up for Judas Priest, and holy shit Zakk Wylde) Judas Priest(Epitaph Tour) All That Remains(12/22/12, the day after the world ended, i saw all that remains, plus this was a bar show, i was like 3 feet from the band) Mushroomhead on April 20th(Another Bar Show, didnt get front row just because i didnt know them too well, but still good show) Skid Row(Bar show, then the bar closed down later that year, you can understand my sadness, but this show kicked ass) All That Remains again(Warmed up for Volbeat, and their set was a lot less heavy than the first time i saw them less than a year ago :( but i think that was because of the venue) Him(warmed up for volbeat, tbh, never thought it was possible to fall asleep at a concert before) Volbeat and if you want to count trans-siberian ochestra ive seen them too I really got spoiled on the bar shows though, something different about having a huge band 3 feet from your face....and only paying $20 to see them. EDIT: just looked up, the bar re-opened under a different name, and no real huge shows booked yet, but im kind of sketchy,,,i see Psychostick as a warm up to some band ive never heard of...(hed)P.E.
