  2. I'm going to drop the new week in about 30 minutes. Last start of 2020!
  3. Very nice! Your soloing was great and I liked the lead-in before you started the Trio+ going. What key/chord progression were you playing? I expected G D7 Am7, but I wasn't seeing the G at the start. I've not gotten mine recorded, but hopefully I will have time today. I'm always the one lagging behind, but appreciate you pushing me along!
  4. Not very competitive this week, but I did enjoy these songs!
  5. I have to share...I just got home from my kids orchestra concert. My son played All About That Bass on the electric bass that belonged my dad and he rocked the solo! My dad would have been proud! And my daughter was so into the music playing her violin, it was great!
  6. Wow...really enjoyed that! Looks like so much fun!
  7. We started with new songs for our challenges, the 5 or 6 were ones he learned. I think he posted them in week 347 or 348. Our first challenge song was was Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here back in week 349. I don't think I did too bad on it. @Rodman is a better player than me, but I try to make mine interesting to compete. I'm using it as a good excuse to teach myself recording and work with a DAW as well.
  8. A mastermode score gets you an additional point for the leaderboards. Occasionally someone does it to much admiration and adoration from all. I have to say, this is pretty much the conversation that was going on when @Rodman challenged me to learn a new song each week. He posted 5 or 6 recordings of songs he had memorized and I said "I want to do that!" So he said, "Let's do it then!" (quotes aren't really quotes, just me paraphrasing.) Come one @TarpMadaand @SpankNass, join us! Give it a shot. We aren't going for Rocksmith note for note renditions, just grab some tab and try to get it recognizable. My worst was Every Breathe you Take. I didn't get the whole song, I just got one part and could only play it slowed down. It is all fun between friends as we push each other to get better!
  9. Rockin Around the Christmas Tree sounds like a good pick. I was thinking we should try something jazzy, and all of those 7 chords in Rocking Around should fit the bill. Some of my family in other states are planning a Christmas Eve Zoom call with each household doing a few readings, singing or playing some music, etc. If I really get this one down I'll blow them all away with a live performance With that in mind, do you mind if we take until Christmas on this one?
  10. @Rodman, here is my submission for our challenge. Full on singing. I know I'm no singer, but this was good step for me to be able to play and sing at the same time. I still can't sing and do anything but strum every beat, but it is progress. I put a capo on the first fret so I could sing it a bit lower. It is all one take, with some reverb applied. I also beefed up the intro riff a bit with an extra reverb type effect. I played it on my PRS with a Bias FX tone VST, I'm really liking how those sound.
  11. Welcome to all of you participating for the first time! Rock on!
  12. Getting a little better The bass part has grown on me, pretty fun to play
  13. Wow...had to research. Crazy. I never even thought to ask the emulated bass question. Ya know, my son and I hooked his big double bass up to Rocksmith once....
  14. Just getting to the songs this week Wow....some tough arpeggios! This bass part has a old feel to it and I'm not sure why. Maybe 80s synth or something?
  15. I sat watching that with a huge smile on my face! Much respect for putting yourself out there like that! I agree, singing while playing is so much harder, but without it I have a hard time keeping track of the structure in my head. Your guitar sounded so clean. I smacked my forehead listening to your intro, I never thought of breaking it down on one string instead of the harder 2 string part like the recording. Nice! This really made my day man!
  16. Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was a breakthrough for me to talk and play at the same time. I'm not sure I was going for William Shatner, I think I had Sam Elliot mind You are correct, I owe you a comment. I started to comment on your version several times and kept getting distracted. You nailed the arpeggios, they sounded clean and clear. The chord followed by arpeggios keeps it clean but cohesive, just like the original so I like that choice. I feel like strumming the chords gets too textured (and noisy) for the song. I think the space makes the song, it needs to be a bit sparse like the desert outside of Los Angeles. Your solo was, as always, unique but fit in with the piece. I like how you chose to play the part at about 3:12. I didn't realize how iconic that part was to the song until you played it. I wish I had added it to my version. Overall, I thought you nailed it. A few questions....the little outfit you held up at the start. What was that about? Are you expecting a little one? Second, I recognize your soloing as a pentatonic minor, how do you pick your starting note? Is it related to the chord? Are you sliding up or down the neck based on the chord progression or are you playing the solo without much regard to the actual chord underneath it? I'm keen to get better in this area and you seem to have done some exploration into it. Since it is Friday, I know you like to get your song to practice picked How about Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison?
  17. @Rodman , after your video was taken down I started trying to figure out how to do it such that mine wouldn't get taken down. The past couple I've done the melody on have been flagged as ineligible for monetization, but not removed. I figured the melody would get flagged for sure with this one, and I wasn't even sure about the chord progression. So I messed around playing it trying to make it sound recognizable but not exact. This is the version that jumped out, and I'm really please with it. I have been working on learning to do more than just play guitar, so this was a big step that I could do spoken word while playing. This is all one take, a diaphragm mic pointed at the guitar, and a vocal mic for the words. I adjusted the volume levels, but that was it. We will see if it gets flagged.
  18. Yeah, I agree, the 5 rating is too low. I wrote this down as a 6-7, then when I was typing the week up I thought, "but it is about the same as the lead part, maybe I just suck as the string skipping", so I lowered the rating. I played it last night, and I should have gone with my gut. I must agree with @ZeroPingNZ it is probably a 7 and an advanced bass song. It is a bit late in the week to move a song normally, but as it is a bonus song I don't think it would be a big deal. Does anyone have any objections to changing the rating to a 7 and making it advanced bass bonus instead?
  19. I don't think I have ever found a better song to start practicing arpeggios with Rocksmith.
