I played a LOT of rocksmith from 2016 to 2018. and I recently got back to it a bit, as it's an wonderful tool to learn songs. and some years ago, we got those amazing AI tools to isolate and remove whole instruments and sections from songs. funnily, I thought then "hey, imagine how this is going to improve rocksmith". but I downloaded it back, opened up the search engine and there is literally 35 entries. why isn't no one using AI to make backing track versions of songs? is there a prohibition or something similar, or am I looking for the wrong search tags? if I knew how to chart I would do it myself lol

If people want a backing track version, their best bet is hoping the band/ artist themselves release an official 'backing track' audio file to use.
The AI tools aren't really that good for isolating guitar as much as people think. I have tried a few times, and the vast majority of the things I've attempted did not turn out good.

There is no rule against it, but if someone is uploading a 'backing track', it'd be nice if the audio was sourced via the proper avenues, as opposed to defaulting to AI which gives mixed results.

Indeed, stem separation tools are good at separating drums, vocals and bass, but bad with guitars and keyboard.

But... if you're lucky and the song you want has one guitar only and no keyboard, the tool will separate drums, vocals and bass, and leave you with the "everything else" leftover track which will then contain only the guitar track. You can then merge all other stems and have a reasonable guitar-less version of the original song.

Overall however, I would simply guess that full-audio is still more popular than a backing track, because then you can also hear more clearly what and how you should play. In many cases, the visual representation of notes in RS (but also tabs and classical notation) can be deceiving on the exact rhythm. Without audio to remind you, it can happen that you think you're nailing the rhythm while you're really not.
