Rocksmith 2014 - Mac OS

Question

Posted

Good Evening All,

I've noticed recently on my version of Rocksmith 2014 (it's running through Steam), is performing more poorly than ever, more stuttering. less stability, and the note recognition worse than than usual. IE missing alot more notes even on easy songs as a test, the tuning is constantly off within the game more than usual and I've got several tuners all say it's fine, it's just the game. I've always had some kind of issue where it isn't perfect but it's runs pretty well.

Just to trouble shoot some things, I'm running through a docking station but I've always ran through this, skipped the docking station same issues, the Mac runs a fraction better if I'm skipping the docking station. I'm running on a M1 Macbook Pro 2020 13 inch, 8gb RAM. Using the Rocksmith Tone cable into the Docking station but tried it straight into the USB-C port and it's the same result. Tried using my Scarlet 2i2 as an interface instead of the RS cable and Spark 40w as the audio interface but again it's fractionally better but you can't hear what your playing.

I've recently upgraded guitars from a PRS SE Custom 24, to a Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HH, now to a Ibanez RGT1221PB (I thought a hard tail would help with tuning stability for RS NOPE).

I'm wondering if the more time goes on and the Stream updates for Mac and Mac OS updates are heavily affecting the performance of RS since it's an old application.

Sorry for the long rant I wanted to give as much information as possible & thank you for reading.

I recently got a Mac Mini M4 pro for the living room and was experiencing some latency and flickering  playing with the TV (had to  put it in low latency/gaming and switched to a faster HDMI cable).

Then  I started getting stuttering and strange sound and discovered that the sound volume on the cable had to be almost on max for it to be correctly detected inside Rocksmith (and hat to calibrate my bass inside Rocksmith) and the headphones had to be plugged in before starting Rocksmith (airpods didn't work because they are detected as headphones and microphone witch confuses Rocksmith).

I *seem* to be having better luck, currently. My setup is:

I'm plugging my bass into my AG500 amp head. From here, I have the Rocksmith Tone Cable plugged into the amp's "Effects Send" output. I'm plugging the USB end of the Tone Cable directly into my M2 Pro MacBook Pro using Apple's fancy USB A - USB C adapter. I'm running Ventura 13.7.5 and generally don't have note recognition issues unless I'm wildly out of tune or my volume is totally off somewhere in the chain.

Wish Ubisoft did a better job of supporting Rocksmith on Mac, both Remastered and Plus. It's awesome on Mac when it's working well.
