Custom songs with DD start with full difficulty?!

Question

Posted

Hi there,

as you can see I am new to customsforge and also quite new to rocksmith.
I started playing guitar with rocksmith and still am a total beginner.

Therefore the dynamic difficulty is very very valuable for me and i have the feeling of learning a lot and actually making good progress with repeating stuff and getting the higher difficulties automatically.

Nevertheless, here is my problem:
I tried some cdlc's and picked some with DD. All of them are coming at me with 'full throttle' while i expected them to start easy and become more advanced like the original ones do.

So is there something i am missing? Something to adjust? Maybe a way of, lets say, resetting them to 0%?

I tried to play a song several times in order to let rocksmith recognize i am not that skilled and adjust difficulty but that did not help.

It has been a long time since I started playing, but I thought that RS took a sample of your playing when you first started and gauged your ability at that time and started songs at about the correct level. If you played the intro really well, then RS thinks you are a skilled player. But the system also often gets it wrong.

I don't think you can force RS to a specific level, but when you first play a song, you can set the level you want, and it will remember that. So when a song starts, press the space bar. Then make sure the entire song is highlighted by pressing "0"  and "9" until the entire song is highlighted. Then use the arrow keys to highlight "Set Difficulty" and set it down to 0. Then the next time you start that song it will start at about the same level. You can also set "Level Up" to on and set the number of iterations you need to play flawlessly before it increases the level.

I know, it sucks that it can't start every song at the same level. I think that is one of the main complaints about RS. But you can set each song that you play. I hope that helps.

well, as far as i know, rocksmith actually does set the level of a new(never-played) song based on your performance in other songs but this just can't be the case for my downloaded cdlc's.

right now i play my songs at 20%, after some practice up to 30 or 40...
But every cdlc looks and feels like >90% and is simply undoable for a beginner like i am.

I guess, setting the difficulty by using the riff repeater is the only way to solve this.
Set it to 0 or whatever suits me, then start to play and practice and let rocksmith do its job again ;)

does it have anything to do with the 'difficulty' setting in the song itself? i'm pretty ignorant of the details, but dont the songs themselves have a difficulty setting? if the CDLC author just didnt bother setting it, maybe the game thinks the song is super easy.

No, there is no difficulty setting in the CDLC. The difficulty comes from the note density. RS should be able to set each new song to a simpler level, but it doesn't always do it.

I'm not that sure if RS sets the difficulty according to your performance, I mean, every song on my list is >85%, but with every new custom I add RS thinks I had a seizure, completely forgot how to play, and set's it to around 15-20%, so I have to manually raise it in order to play (At the very least it only happens to me once per song, since RS saves the DD, but man it's still annoying).

You could say that I have the exact opposite problem than you, so I kinda understand your frustration.

well, appears to be quite odd actually...
some more days have passed, i tested some more cdlc's, all of them with DD.
The outcome is still the same for every song i try. It simply is too difficult and i have to set the difficulty to something 'playable' by hand.
The workaround with using the riff repeater obviously works and this is great but all in all it is still odd to see this.
Especially as other users experience the opposite and have to turn difficulty up.

So as a conclusion i would just take this as a bug/feature of RS and will use the riff repeater to make the diffculty suit my skills.
