Rocksmith 2014 on Mac OS X without the real tone cable

Question

Posted

Hello!

I recently bought Rocksmith 2014 on the steam sale, but I do not have the real tone cable and was trying to play it without it.

I found this post on reddit and managed to get some sound out of Rocksmith through my m-audio interface (an old JamLab), the problem is that the sound is highly distorted, and I don't manage to pass through calibration on the first run of the game.

I haven't tried anything on windows because I don't have enough space to install the game there, although if I don't have any other solutions I can try that.

Has anyone managed to play Rocksmith 2014 (steam version) on a Mac without the realtone cable? How?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi!

I always play Rocksmith 2014 with my interface cable, but I had some issues using others.

Mine is Apogee Jam (the regular version, not 96k one) and what I did was creating a new aggregated device in MIDI Settings named "Rocksmith USB Guitar adapter" and select the Jam as Source. Then launch RS2014 as usual.

I tried the same with a USB Squier Strat and while I was playing with Logic or AmpKit the guitar sounded as usual, but within RS2014 the sound was very distorted and impossible to tune. Maybe some frequency or software issues.

I know this is not what you want to hear OP, but I would get the realtone cable. It will save you a lot of headaches and you can usually find one on sale at some point. The RS1 cable is the same one as the 2014, so if you can go that way too if it is cheaper.

Hey,

Thanks for your replies, it might be a problem with the specific interface I am trying to use then.

I'll see if I can get my hands on another one or get a real tone cable, if it works with a different interface I'll let you know.
