  1. Hello tknapp66 ,

More Blind Melon would be great , what a great band. Unfortunately only known mostly for their single 'No Rain' and often written off as a one hit wonder. But all of their albums were amazing. (They released a new one a few years back which has some great guitar and bass tracks on it...Sure it's no Shannon Hoon but what can you do).

So...there is a request form to fill out for all custom song requests :

First click this link to be redirected to the request list:

    http://requests.customsforge.com/index.php?b

We will first see if songs you want have been requested yet. So type in Blind Melon, if the song you want is on the list, click the 'like' button. (There's no point in requesting a song that's already been requested). Looks like Galaxy and Sleepy House and a few others are on there.

Next, if your song is NOT on that list, click "request form" and fill out the required parameters. One thing that is required for the charters is a link to a guitarpro tab of the song. You can find those at a few sites:

    http://www.songsterr.com/

    http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/

Hope this helps for future requests.

    Rock on!

  2. Tips and tricks,,, well. A shit ton of practice is a tip.

    Yes.

Also, start simple. Many of us did not start with metal...sure a few metal riffs here and there...but we started with simpler stuff. Punk is easy, gets that right hand speeding up. Start with Blitzkrieg Bop, it will teach you power chords , which are found in the majority of metal.

Don't practice things you've become good at. Practice what you're bad at. So if you learn to change between C and G effectively and quickly...don't keep practicing songs with C and G, practice new chords. If you learn one part of a solo and can play it without thinking, dont keep practicing that...learn the next part.

Play without Rocksmith too. Pick up your guitar out of game, play chords and scales you've learned from the game. Practice riffs you've learned.

Play the arcade practice games. String Skip Saloon (don't look at your guitar when you play this),  Temple of the Bends (practice bends with ALL fingers) and the Duck Redux (don't look down at your guitar). Learn scales in session mode, they make it fun...

Focus on the quality of your practice, not the length. At first it might be frustrating...but, keep going. Don't get discouraged, YOU WILL GET BETTER!

  3. Yeah to expand on these comments a bit, it looks like your whole right arm is very tense...try mindfully relaxing when you're playing. Of course we want to do what's natural but we develop some bad habits. I've had mixed opinions about anchoring...it keeps the hand in one spot, so you have to kind of twist it to pick proper (the way attitude is suggesting). I anchor too though..try just anchoring with the tip of your pinky.  I wouldnt worry about what your thumb is doing, but I would worry about wrist/hand pain, you shouldn't have pain, try practicing relaxing your wrist and arm.

    Here's a decent article:

  4. Thanks so much firekorn  :D . There are a few I can do with no problem. The really well done 21 Guns - Green Day CDLC is an easy one (rhythm or lead guitar), Black - Pearl Jam (rhythm). I'd like to play more complex stuff and sing, but I think it's like you said, practice...there are no shortcuts I guess huh? :(

  5. Thanks! Yeah will def. get some straplocks and a case.

(Also Admin/mods please move this to 'gear garage' if you have a chance, is where I meant to post this -- oops)

  6. I am slowly learning to develop my ear. I am learning to listen to songs and find the notes on my own with just my ipod and guitar! Rocksmith has helped with this...Just keep practicing and playing, in Rocksmith and on your own...Try finding simple songs with simple solos to try to tab or work out yourself. Even if you just start with the intro it's progress right?

Eventually you'll hear a note and know where to find it on the fretboard. You'll learn by ear whether it's a power chord, if it's palm-muted, if it's a double-stop. Just practice, keep going forward and most importantly don't get discouraged! This community is amazingly helpful and supportive. Good luck!

  7. Hey guys,

Lately I've been been busting out my acoustic guitar a lot more lately and want to expand my playing styles and skills.

Anyone know of some good fingerpicking/ fingerstyle songs that are cdlcs here?

I have the basics already, Dust in the Wind - Kansas, Babe I'm going to Leave you - Zeppelin, Tears in Heaven - Clapton, Landslide - Fleetwood Mac. Greensleeves and some Classical stuff.

Any other song suggestions would be great. Genre is no matter.Thank you!

  8.

But, any progress is better than no progress and as far as I enjoy playing along my favorite bands I can live up with less than 100%.

My only regret is that I haven't had the chance of starting to play earlier.

At least you're playing, some people never get around to it. Better late than never! (And 35 is still really young).

  9. I do it like most here, but I will play the song at 100% speed, and adjust the difficultly to something challenging, I do this to see which parts I can play with time and which parts I can't. Then I go back and slow the parts I'm having a hard time with, I usually slow it down in riff repeater (with accelerator on and error tolerance at low or zero) if I still struggle when it speeds up by itself, I'll slow it down and do it over and over again.

Also, practicing scales on your OWN outside of Rocksmith is helpful...try going faster , also practice chords and changing them, I just have my guitar while I'm watching tv and practice scales and what not, up and down the neck.

  10.

I think there should be an option to search via 'tag' in the customs search options. ie. 'metal', 'blues', 'Christmas', 'guitarist name' etc.

You can already do that.  If you click on the gear icon beside the search box on the top of every page you can access all of the advanced search options.  So if you enter "metal, blues, christmas" in the "Find Tags" box, and then select "Submitted CDLC" in the "Find in forum" section you can search all of the submitted CDLC for those tags.

Thank you so much! This makes life easier :)

  11. I have stared fooling around with building custom cdlc songs for personal preference to what isn't on custom forge. I haven't completely finalized one yet and am trying to do this one hit wonder band oleander "why I'm here". It's definitely harder than I thought but I'm determined. From someone who barely knows his way around the computer even harder. I have watched tutorials on how to do this, and most give you the steps but there is alot of things that are a language I have no idea what this or that means. I do believe though it will help with my having a key ear for music and identifying tones in a song. What I would like to ask is if anyone knows of any good tutorials that maybe I possibly have not ran across yet. Like maybe some steps on understanding the details and understanding what the details mean. Like why changing milliseconds does and how it works and etc.

I have found this site this best site I have ever messed with everyone is awesome and seem to want to help. I have made my contributions and will continue to do so and can't wait till I am able to put one of my cdlc on custom forge.

There is no limit as to what you can learn from here and I understand that it's really all about what u want to learn and how determined you are.

I battle from bipolar depression and this place "custom" forge is my medicine and has truly helped out with that, so thank you custom forge, for giving this to those who want it or need it.

Even if this site required a subscription it would be well worth it. But I understand why it's free and why it needs to be and therefore will continue my donations so that this will always be available.

Sweet!! Love to try your cdlc. Yeah I'm going to continue my donation too, this place is amazing!

  12. It partially does exist but it's not that efficient in my point of view since RS ask you to get over a certain pourcentage which is in the end not always a good goal and most of time aim at difficult song from what i've seen so far.

Yeah , definitely . My goal is to try to play the song OUTSIDE of RS...I try to play it several times in master score attack and commit it to memory, this doesn't always work as I jump around and want to play a bit of everything in a practice session. This actually improves my playing, I jump massive plateaus quickly and the improvement is noticed as I play all types of songs in all types of tuning, with all types of techniques (bends, barre chords, arpeggios, trem, hammers and pulls, tapping, slides, major shifting)...I don't learn a lot of whole songs, I only know about 3 or 4 from start to end...

However, every time I notice I get better , I can rip through some riffs outside of RS, and can improvise with ease...

I know I should focus on one or two songs, but this is what's fun and what works for me.

If I am determined to learn a whole song, I will play it over and over, (with master mode turned OFF) , get it as high as I can then use riff repeater (starting at 70% speed per piece) and go from there...I learned Aces High in an afternoon (not including solo) and I consider myself a beginner.

    :)

  13. Hey guys,

Been enjoying my stay here and enjoying all the great customs, however I've reached a point where I want to tackle my own. I have watched the tutorials by Squid and PC Plum, and read the tutorial on how to create cdlcs by Darjusz.

I have EOF, the RStoolkit, and have been using tablature and guitar pro for years. So..

I started with some very basic songs, set EOF up exactly as told with most recent hotfix, imported song, double and triple checked BPM including the second method that Squid uses via. Songbpm.com

I imported tabs ~ trying Modest Mouse's 'Dramamine' bass line and the Arcade Fire's 'Rebellion (Lies)' bass line for practice. I can not get the notes to sync with the music. I have used the bpm as said on the tab file. It all seems extremely out of sync. What am I doing wrong?

Also, I registered for Wwise and it keeps saying it can't finish installing. ??

Any tips, experience with this, links, etc. would be helpful. I don't want to give up before I've even begun. :(

  14. This one is cool by GetTheLedOut, will teach you a basic blues progression:

'Ramblin on my Mind' John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers

    http://customsforge.com/page/customsforge_rs_2014_cdlc.html/_/pc-enabled-rs-2014-cdlc/ramblin-on-my-mind-r1483

Also , check out richomat's stuff ^ Got some solid blues here.

    http://search.customsforge.com/?u=richomat

Although, I will admit we need some Buddy Guy.

Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones use a lot of blues as well. I like some modern blues rock too like the Black Keys, Jonny Lang and Gary Clark Jr.
    Good Luck!
