  1. Why I May Give Up Learning Songs Ever since I become a tabber, it’s become very clear that I’m not really cut out for it exactly? Despite all my knowledge of music theory, I still struggle with parts of it. And overall, my biggest turn off for it is the time it takes. I suppose it’s quicker than how most people learn it, but it is time consuming because of the way I learn it, which is every measure played back twice, until I get it right. And it works. There’s a good reason why I want to give up though. I do feel I’m doing a service by giving other guitar players confidence and allowing them to learn these songs with ease, but I’m beginning to realize how much better it is just to enjoy music. It’s the same with video games. I have had experience developing modifications for games, but these are using tools provided by others. I edited maps on Team Fortress 2 and even edited code to make stuff work. And I always found it more fun to play. And it’s the same with learning music. And I am kinda saying that somebody else should learn these songs. I’ve been editing tabs for 3 years and learning songs by ear nearly over 2 years. Part of my reasons for wanting to stop, is I have better things to do. And on top of that, I’m considering playing Rocksmith to learn the techniques so I can actually begin writing music, and do much better at it. Then be able to create my own music. So much of my time is wasted learning songs which I can enjoy, but it feels very boring after a while, and I’ve been learning songs for years through Rocksmith too. I’m at the point where I want to write my own stuff, maybe jam on my guitar for hours at a time rather than learn songs. At the end of the day, I’m happy if I made other people happy, but if I don’t care about my own happiness, I’m going to end up unhappy or worse and that means I won’t be able to contribute anything. I was happy when I started tabbing, in a way. I was kinda proud of my tabs, but now it’s just questioning whether I wanted to do it or not? And I prefer artwork because of how much freedom I have as well as being able to enjoy myself doing it.

I get you mate, once I've tabbed out a song and figured out how it goes I just cant enjoy it anymore when it comes on in my playlist. Even if it is a great song.

I'm grateful for all the great bands I've discovered because of your work and it always amazes me how you can figure out demetori's solos. But at the end of the day it must've been a lot of hard work.

Do what you want as long as it make you happy and I look forward to hearing your own music if you get around to making some.

Thanks. The Demetori solos are tough. I managed to tab them with enough practice from learning songs. They're not 100% accurate, but they're as close as I can get them.

Again, my biggest problem with tabbing is it takes so long. One or two days might seem quick, but it's around 10-30 hours per tab. That's for two arrangements usually.

On the bright side, I did find a style to my own music.

I doubt you'd be interested in the music I made. It's weird and far from perfect. Though there's three songs I'm pretty proud of. I also work on a lot of other projects outside of tabbing, I write fan fiction, draw artwork, write articles (Poorly written, and I always write them with good intentions and focus on the subject), write reviews.

One of the quotes I live my life by is 'Life is too short' and I agree with that completely, I always make it a goal to be productive and give back to the world for the wonderful things that have been created. Any time I'm sitting anywhere doing nothing, I feel like I'm wasting time, because every second is precious. Sadly, I've got into a habit of overthinking, as a result, I've replaced science with fact (It sounds strange, but it's true) and I'm dangerously close to figuring out things hundreds of people in their professions have failed to acknowledge. I both feel cursed and blessed.

Sorry, that last part was creepy. I just apply lube to reality and bingo, that's me. Slipping.

I'll probably start finishing up on what I have planned and still make CDLC, just not tab as often.
