  1. I've had to adjust my truss rod today :o, but still haven't bettered last night's score:

    (Weezer, bass, 99.72%)

    (We Are Scientists, bass, 94%)

And today, this doesn't seem too bad at all for advanced (Hail the Sun, bass, 92%):

  2. I think we may have a few 100% bass scores this week. :D

    (John Lennon, bass, 100%)

    I like this song.

    (REM, bass, 100%)

Ok, I have played it a few times before… ;)

I quite like this, and I don't think it's too difficult.  I have cheated and used a pick though...

    (Judas Priest, bass, 94.4%)

I'm quite happy with that as a first go.

Not even going to attempt MC.

  3. Another slight improvement. (94.28%, World on Fire, Bass)

Got to admit, I am slightly addicted to it on RR...

I've got to stop now though, because I can feel bruising in one of my plucking fingers, and playing my other favourites after, I can even feel bruising in my fretting hand.

Plus, it is improving my speed, I've no doubt, but it does nothing for my technique.

  4. If I had a jailbroken PS3

    1. I wouldn't go on PSN either, see 2.

    2. Probably, yes.

    3. I have no idea.  Do you have any other shop bought DLC (presumably from before when your PS3 was jailbroken) that you could use instead?

    4. Which psarc?  Cherub Rock or do you mean the psarc files that are the CDLC songs that you get from this site?

I really dont want to get fed up and end up getting it for pc aswell because if I do then I definitely wont consider buying it.

    5. I wouldn't go incriminating myself on here.

    6. You could try a Google search for "Cherub Rock psarc"?  If you manage to get something, I don't know whether it'll work.

I gave up on the PS3 version and bought Rocksmith 2014 for Steam.  IIRC I only paid about £11 for an online code for it - as you say, you already have the cable.  Sorry, I've been no help.

  5. I think I might struggle this week.

I riff repeated the first couple of bars just to get an indication of how the song should sound.  It's very fast, isn't it?

I've got to say, I don't like the song much - the fella can't sing!  The bass itself is ok, It's just very, very fast… (and I've just had yet another birthday, so I'm even older than I was last week - can't cope!)

Anyway, Slash, World on Fire 92.6%, bass:

I quite like The Jack as a song, but the bass is boring, so might not persevere with that.  The Go Gos on the other hand is quite difficult, so I might be giving that a miss too… bloody useless, I am!

  6. What do you have at the moment?

For the price, you can't go wrong with a Yamaha.

I've got an RBX170 that I've had since last January.  It's very basic, but good quality and easy to play.

I was so impressed by it that my second bass is a TRBX504.  The neck is thinner, and it feels a little lighter and smaller than the RBX.  It's a bit more than I actually need at the moment though, because I never really plug it directly into an amp to benefit from the improvement in tone over the RBX, since I only really use it for Rocksmith.  It is nice to look at though. :D

  7. Well. I guess I'm passing this week.  I can't seem to get Rocksmith to recognize enough of the notes to get through the bass line of Soothsayer in hard SA.

If there's no dynamic difficulty, you can play it in easy and it'll still have all the notes there?  Or play it in LAS?

If you're playing bass, try tuning it down a little.  I had awful problems with a drop tuning a couple of weeks ago, and this helped.

  8.

Before Rocksmith, I'd look for tabs for songs and 9 out of 10 times I would think "meh, that looks too hard" and give up without even really trying to work at it for more than a few minutes.  Now, with Rocksmith, I have a huge list of songs that I can sight-read and play to 98-99%+ accuracy, which is great fun for me.  I'm nowhere near as good as some of the upper ranks of MC-level bass players here in the championship, but I'm already way better than I was just a year ago, and way better than I ever expected I would get period before I discovered Rocksmith.

I was doing this with Rocksmith to begin with as well - I'd see the notes come up and if it looked too complicated, I'd quit the song immediately.  I think the competition helps with that - I'm more likely to work my way through a whole song in the Championship, even if I do only get 70-80%.
